Wow, I thought my game got weird.. This was great!
The story crawl was great with the blurry text and how it was under the menu UI. And the options just giving a screenshot of a Shadow the Hedgehog meme was hilarious!
And also speaking as someone who had to work and stayed up quite late working on the jam I can unfortunately relate to the tortoise's situation.
The physics were absurd as they should be for a SBIG game, and the floating Z's were a great touch.
The music I thought was kinda hit or miss depending on the level. I liked the 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' and the deep fried 'Faded' cover, but even then it could be a bit too overpowering. And I was never crazy about the more ear assault aspects of bad games.
The movement could get a bit difficult at times, but I don't think it took me more than a few minutes to pass each stage.
Once I got into the last couple stages though my GOD what a trip! I won't spoil it but man I loved every second of it! And then of course the closing cutscene bringing it all back down was the icing on top.
Overall I don't disagree with other people saying it got too frustrating, but I was able to overcome it and what did work was great! Also I should say I didn't have any performance issues, which is something I think held LBQT back quite a bit last year.
Great work!
Had a blast in the first two levels, then things unfortunately got a little too frustrating for me. Maybe add a few more easy levels and this could be a fun little silly game.
Wow!!!!!!!!!! This is absolutely amazing!
The game started off with an amazing first impression. Menu screen made to perfection! Attention to detail is impeccable! As someone who was up until 3am last week making games while working full-time, this story hits way too close-to-home 😂
The gameplay is very much in the Octodadlike camp! (I'd say the closest companion in terms of movement might be "I am Bread" in terms of movement and not hitting things 😅) I do think it was very enjoyable, and with a little more refinement, the game would feel absolutely professional-tier!
I think the game suffers from, what might have an actual name, but I like to call "Pro-gamer developer syndrome". Essentially that it's all too often that devs (especially me lol) get v good at their own games and therefore make the difficulty insanely hard. Introducing both the launchpad and cola bottle in level 3 made things very difficult, since I was learning both at the same time. I'm a very committed person, so after about 20 attempts, I managed to do it!
And I'm glad I did! Because the leadup to the end of the game is absolutely insane! Honestly 2 of the best sequences I've seen in a SBIGJam game in a long time, clearly a lot of effort and creativity going into it! I was just like woaahhhhhhhhhhhhh 🤯
Yeah so anyway gud gam. v gud gam. Well done!
I have expected to see much more ragdolls in this game jam, but it is the first I have seen. Overall is this a simple and funny little puzzle game. Well done.
This game is really fun I like the ragdoll mechanics , although it is quite difficult in some parts
This one started off by making a really good first impression. Janky physics, um, platformer I guess, with a Graphics Design Is My Passion aesthetic? Sign me up! Having a menu with jokes in the menu itself was just the icing on the cake, and the Star Wars style story crawl was great.
The first few levels were simple and easy, but really fun. The janky physics based movement of the tortoise is hilarious to watch, and the victory screen was equally funny and satisfying.
But it kinda jumped the shark around level 3 (if my count is accurate) and became both much more frustrating to play and much more irritating to experience. The awkward controls and janky physics are fun when the levels are designed for it, but level 3 requires a degree of precision that you don't really have. Still, I was eventually able to beat it. Level 4, though, I couldn't figure out how to get through without waking up the tortoise with the tables, and that's where I gave up. The background "music" in that level is painful to listen to, and the background audio in level 4 just as grating. The screwy visuals in level 4 were a little much too.
Still, it's a neat concept, and it's technically well executed. I liked that new mechanics like the rocket were being gradually introduced (are there more?) although the long charge time threw me a bit. I think the game just went a little too far into bad territory.
