Really interesting concept here, I like the take on open world and managing armies as your “equipment” is very creative. The resource increase being tied to items also works well and keeps things nicely balanced. It’s hard to make gold “important” in rpgs, and you nailed that.
The pacing felt a bit light at times, I found myself wandering without much to do, so a few more “clutter” locations or ways to move faster could really help. I did like the raid option. I’m not sure if repeating the same one is intended though.
Also, small note in case it helps: a couple of units didn’t seem to work properly for me, like the support/cook not adding skills (or maybe I couldn’t find them), and one interaction that did nothing. Also, I didn’t manage to use TMP (green bar) at all, did I miss something?
Loved the punny names, and the world map is impressively big. Nice work overall, great job!
Thanks very much for playing and for the detailed feedback.
I'll look into the support unit, I probably did forget to add the skill since the purpose of each member is indeed to add one skill and increase the troops overall stats. I never did a proper full playtest myself due to various time constraints with the jam and also real life so I did expect maybe some things I missed.
Unfortunately, the TMP is a broken feature - it was supposed to be Troop Morale Points which would be replenishable by rations and it would affect things like giving buffs and debuffs in battle to reflect how the troop were motivated but I didn't have the time to implement it, sadly.
Thanks for the review and rating and all the best for the jam :)
Neat concept, decent execution. I think you really hit the spirit of the jam. Cheers!
Thanks very much for playing and the kind feedback :)
I kind of wish this doubled down on the S-RPG roots or RTS roots you were going for. With t hat said, my only other complaint was a lack of healing. This was oddly refreshing to see yourself playing primarily in the Overworld though. I like that as well as your creative way of making unique battlers. I hope you branch this out with something HUGE in the near future because while I rated this thing a little low in some categories, Creativity for me was 5 Stars all the way! Thanks so much for making this game, and like I said I hope you continue with this concept!
Thanks for playing and the feedback.
These RTP jams I really love because they give me an excuse to try different concepts and see what works and what is interesting to people.
That said, since I put all my eggs in my concept and design phase - things like content, quality and variety usually go by the wayside, especially for a small game jam time frame.
In all honesty I don't mind getting low scores in some stuff, I just enjoy getting feedback on the concepts and seeing what people like and exploring new ideas in RPG Maker.
So thanks for your thoughts, it means a lot :)
You're welcome. I really should have taken this approach. Darrell: Dreams of Castle Negrus were very much SUPER concept heavy as well and honestly our team was newly formed from this. I actually hope to do more with my team though our initial reception of that game was much rougher by comparison. This does flex my muscles though! So there is that.
Well just so you know, I think working in a team to get ANYTHING done at all is a skill in and of itself, so anyone who is part of that gets big respect from me :)
Awwww thanks, Razuth! I hope to continue flexing my teamwork muscles for a less time intensive game.
Very nice. I really never played a JRPG, though I have the engine. Excellent dialogue, keeping in tone with the vibe. I’ll have to come dive deeper when I have time. Thanks for the game.
Thank you for the feedback and playing :)
I am playing and rating/giving feedback to every game in the jam so I will get to yours soon when it comes up in the queue.
Could I please ask you leave the game a rating for the jam so I don't miss out on that?
Thanks :)
