interesting puzzle game

Great game! It is similar to ADOFAI and as a player of the game, I like how you additionally added other components as a twist like the key, door, and spikes! I also enjoyed having to create the path itself in order to reach the end of the level, I think that was nice part of the game (And the editor itself was great!).

For my feedback on the game, and after reading some of the comments already posted below, I think the offbeat movement does ruin the rhythm part of the game and that the dynamic music idea would have been great to fix that, though highly over-scoped for a jam lol. Also, I am extremely bad at puzzle games, so please forgive me, but I did get stuck at level 7 for too long and gave up because for some reason I couldn’t figure out how to map the movement right to complete the level!

In any case, this is a highly polished game and additionally has tons of potential for expanding as a nice twist to ADOFAI!

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Don’t feel bad by any means, level 7 is a bit obscure, you’re supposed to activate the trap with Orby, which is immune to it, so that Ghosty can then go through it safely. The concept could surely have been introduced better, but we had to rush the levels since we spent so much time building the rest of the systems ><

In any case, I’m so glad that you enjoyed the game and liked the twists we added as a fellow ADOFAI player! After the JAM ends, we plan on fixing some issues and implementing some elements that we didn’t have time to include, so stay tuned ^^!

Really good job on this one! It is actually fun to play (which I still honestly find difficult to achieve in a game jam game)! The art is adorable with perfectly matching UI and VFX. I also like the spin you tried on ADOFAI. We were actually in a similar position where we thought about having a kind of planning phase to plot your moves in advance. :)

The input method of plotting your path is very clean visually yet confusing to me personally. I find it hard to map the beats to left and right turns in the actual level and find myself just trying it out until I get the direction I want. I also feel like movements on the beat feel really well but I can't seem to grasp the offbeat movements. Maybe it's a personal thing or maybe something that can be improved upon in the composition of the song? I don't know really, but anyways. That's critique on a high level, so again: Well done, very nice game! :)

Thanks a lot for your comments, it’s really helpful to get feedback like this!

We had some discussions about the editor and eventually converged to its current state, originally you wouldn’t even be able to see the tiles update in real time, but we deemed it way too hardcode, hahah! It can take a while to get used to, but it’s kind of satisfying once you get the hang of it. I hope you at least found it entertaining rather than frustrating ><

Regarding offbeat rhythms, other players have also had issues with this. I think the main problem is that the songs don’t really follow the offbeat and their rhythm is pretty much disconnected from the one dictated by the tiles. We entertained the idea of generating dynamic music that fits the tiles’ rhythm but deemed it too hard to fit in the scope of the JAM u.u

Anyway, glad you could enjoy it despite this, and thanks for playing ^^!

Very cute graphics! I included it in my Rhythm Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to check it out!

I love it! Maybe I would try to make it easier especially at the beginning, adding some extra feedback on the rhythm. But a very cool game with a cute aesthetic. :3

Thanks for your comment! Yes, we definitely could improve the feedback, we’ve seen many people getting confused and not knowing whether they were hitting on time or not ><

A visual indicator would’ve been nice, we may add it in a more polished release after the JAM ends :)!

Check the game page for a bit of lore and explanation! We sadly could not export to HTML because it broke everything and we didn’t have time to fix it. The windows version was uploaded a few minutes before the 1h grace period ended! We’d have loved to polish the game more but we ran out of time. Please enjoy what we managed to make!
