eat it gustov!!

ok 1 things... on my first play, i just spam the top spin button and won, no challenge. on my next play, i went in not using that button, and was more challenging! this was fun and at times i was at the edge of my seat!

overall fun game!

This game is very cute! I know you've already heard about Goostav's topspin issues, but other than that the game is a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it!

haha... ssssssssss suck it gustav. I really liked the feel of the game and the art and the story. It was slightly hard to figure out where I needed to be for hitting the ball. Maybe having some sort of indication of where the ball was going to land and/or how far in front you would swing would be good.

Thanks for the feedback!

In the comments I'm starting to see a trend of the most common problems, so after the judging is over I might try some fixes and improvements for the game, such as:

- a visual indicator for the swing timing or better perception for how close the ball is

- teaching Goostav how to deal with topspin serves (and also how to not be a cheater :) )

- closing the roof to prevent the ball going out of bounds

- possibly more stuff

This was a blast to play! With a really cute and fun atmosphere.

I love the sprite-billboarding on the 3d tennis court, the pixel art geese were very charming!

The ball felt very satisfying to make contact with - the sound effect, the color trail and the physics all work together nicely.

There were a few cases where I soft-locked the game by hitting the ball out of bounds, and the CPU doesn't seem to be able to return a topspin serve. But that didn't stop me from replaying it multiple times! Just the act of running up and down the court and alternating shot types was massively entertaining.

The responsiveness of the ball was fun to play with! The physics are well done and the concept is straightforward yet quirky enough to get behind- nice work!

Great game! The ball felt responsive and satisfying to hit, Goostav was pretty funny too

Silly and very fun! Love the controls and gameplay, Goostav was a formidable opponent. Bit of a cheesy strat, but as others have mentioned, just doing the topspin every time seems to net you a point, as Goostav doesn't seem able to return that type of shot very well at all. Still fun regardless!

Really love this one. It’s funny, strongly tied to the theme, and Goostav is such a charmer

this is awesome! the controls are super satisfying and the comedy is impeccable. gustav is very threatening. i also found the cheese where you just press s to win.

Submitted

Really enjoy the mix between 2D and 3D. But I found a cheese strategy where you stand still and press 1 button to instantly win a round.

Liked it, simple but nice! The music was fun.

I found a way to 100% win every time, wondering whether that's intended or not.

Developer

It was not intended (my code of Gustav's movement became a bit spaghetti), but in the end it did make debugging a lot easier. :P

If I ever continue with this project (or use it as a template) I will probably rewrite the AI.

Goostav dislikes me. Love the physics in this one! Feels polished and smooth. The addition of obstacles on the court was a fun addition. I liked trying the different shots and changing my timing. Only comment is that the timing affecting the direction was a little unclear with the 2d assets.

Developer

Thanks, and fair point!

I was thinking of a better visual indication / aid to make it more clear when you could hit the ball and how the aim would be affected, maybe a feature for later. :)
