We want to celebrate the creativity and talent of young games makers across Scotland!

About PlayAway

PlayAway is an online and in-person event series for children and young people aged 10-25 based in Scotland, UK.

It began in 2021 as an online festival that connected people through games during the pandemic.

We're bringing PlayAway back as an online/remote game festival & jam with in-person workshops and events for children and young people, from August 2023 - May 2024.

How to Enter

Step 1: Join A Pop-Up Workshop & Make A Game!

• You can join a Pop-up Workshop for help with making a game. Tinderbox will be hosting in-person and online games making workshops for a range of ages from 10-25. For more info on how to join see the schedule here
• You can also enter the jam and upload a game remotely (you need to be 18+ or have permission from your parent/carer to do this - see more below)
• You can enter a solo game you have made yourself; a group game you make with friends; or you can enter a game that you have made with your school or community group
• Other schools and community groups are also very welcome to host their own pop-up workshops as part of PlayAway Games Jam - get in touch with us at Tinderbox for any questions with joining in this way
• You can enter any kind of game - a digital or online game; a physical, board or card game; a set of instructions or rules; whatever takes your fancy!
• There will be some themes that pop-up during the Jam, but these are all optional
• All submissions must be respectful, conscious of others, and family friendly. Inappropriate submissions will be removed.

Step 2: Upload Your Game!

• If you attend a Tinderbox Pop-up Workshop, we can help you with uploading and entering a game to the Jam
• Depending on how your game is made, you have several ways of uploading on itch.io - if you need help with uploading your game, take a look at the itch help or contact us at Tinderbox
  
• Non-digital games may be submitted as a text document or .pdf description, or in the form of media such as photos, videos, or audio recordings
  
• You will need to be: 18+ to create an account and upload your game on itch.io; have permission from your parent/carer; or contact us at Tinderbox to upload this for you on our own account

Step 3: Vote On Other Games!

• All entrants can vote for other games entered into the jam!

Step 4: Join Us For A Celebration!

• At the end of the Jam we will celebrate the games and games makers with a live event in Edinburgh, Scotland
• You are also welcome to come to more than one Pop-up Workshop - and look out for other events too!
