- Thank you for the fun! I did beat the game. The ideas behind the game were all well done. The one thing that threw me off at the start was knowing which square was mine. Please have the keybinds visible on the menu screen if they aren't accessible in the settings. The one thing that didn't shine for me was the shadow theme. The alchemy was very apparent, but the shadow theme didn't play out. Keep up the good work!
Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes
Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
Yes
Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes
Tell us about your game!
The game is supposed to be a grid based puzzle game.
Story
- Cardinal Synth was supposed to have a story involved that dealt with the main character accidentally getting mixed in with a cult but I ran out of time. So the darkness aspect of the theming isn't really there.
Controls
- arrow keys for movement
- r to reset level
- esc to pause
- space to select things in menus
Mechanics
- The main premise of the game is to combine your empty vessel with different elements to achieve different effects. These combinations and effects are detailed in the GDD. I was only able to make one level but I feel like that showcased some of the possibilities well.
Extra Notes
This is my first real game and project outside of some courses I took a very long time ago. Due to getting really sick part way through and needing to learn how to program from only having very basic knowledge, I didn't quite get everything I wanted to done.
It's been my dream to design games ever since I was little and it makes me happy to see that I've achieved at least this much. This has been literally the best learning experience I've ever had when it comes to programming and I'm honestly really motivated to work on more projects in the future so I can expand that knowledge and eventually make the game I've been outlining for years.
Thor, thank you so much for this opportunity. I've been a long time lurker for nearly 4 years and finding you helped keep the game dev spirit alive in me, even after dropping out of university and dealing with my severely waning mental health. It's meant a lot and this is the first time I've had the courage to say something about it.
