  • I could see this becoming a fully functional game that is quite enjoyable. A few quality-of-life improvements, like knowing what each ingredient does when buying them at first can be helpful. Also having some form of "alchemy book" that saves the mixture of ingredients to refer back to or even auto-make it again would be an excellent addition. Very fun game overall and would love to see this as a full game.
  • You were cookin! This has been one of the most creative ways to incorporate both themes that I've seen so far. Having to create fighters for alchemy, and the underground fighting area for secret societies, both put together to tell an interesting story that I want to see more form, all really done well. Not to mention, the music and the artistic approach were top notch. I want to play this more even as I type this out. You all did a really good job tying everything together, and I hope to see more from you as a result. Keep up the great work!

Tell us about your game!
An autobattler where you play this old street alchemist, member of an illegal Homonculus Fight Club. With the power of dark alchemy, you experiment and create your own weird artificial humans, with different abilities, strengths and weaknesses. You assemble your team and make them fight with others in shady street arenas to become the best Homonculus trainer !

Extra Notes
We realized the night before the deadline that it was spelled Homunculus in English, not Homonculus like in French.
We need some sleep now.

This is such a refreshing game! I love the music, the art, the theme (hip hop wizard fight club). A lot of the UI elements are also very good. I had a gamebreaking bug happen where I tried to make a new dude after buying ingredients  and the entire UI was gone and I couldn't do anything. Also, The first time I played it, I was spam clicking through the intro text and clicked so fast I clicked past the main menu, which gave me half a second of the music before it was very quiet. I reset to hear the intro music, but maybe don't let it stop when you get into the game, just let it keep playing, it's such a vibe!

I think there is some more clarity to be had with the item buying system. Explain what salt and sulfur do, it will make it so much more fun to strategise. It is an auto battlers, your audience will want to min-max the shit out of it!

It was also not clear that when my dude was low, he wouldn't heal. I got attached to him and suddenly he started a battle with 0 hp. I didn't find out if you could heal them, but please let me name them and heal them and upgrade them. They are my little guys :x

From the sound effects to the art to the gameplay, this is a gem with so much potential to be a full game. Thank you!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedbacks ! 🥰

The overall clarity in the item buying system, the recipes and what kind of Homunculus you'll make needs indeed to be improved. We wanted to make a goofy game, but still with a cool gameplay.

Thanks for pointing out the title screen music ! Will add a fading out effect so people can enjoy more the vibe.

Oh we totally forgot about the naming system ! Will absolutely think about it. Darn my post jam todo list keeps on expanding that's awesome.

We thank you a lot, that's so nice of you. 🦝🦝

I am amazed at how good this game is, Its so cool!! ^-^ The gameplay is smooth, I didn't encounter any problems, the music is perfect for the setting, the art is cute, and just the right amount of goofy and just everything about it is great from premise to execution <3 I love it so much that all the sound effects are self made it creates such a charming experience. I spent like 1-2 hours on this game just goofing around, trying to make the biggest, baddest humonculus in existence.

The few pieces of feedback I have are:
- I don't see the point of the healing mechanic. If you can just recycle the humonculus to get back the same ingredients, you can basically just make the same one and it gets created at full health for completely free. Either make healing humonculi free or give some drawback to recycling
- Very rarely if I open a menu it becomes invisible. I found that the best way to counter this is to remember where the 'go back' button in the menu is and just press that area. everything goes back to normal then but it would be nice if you could look into why this is happening
- perhaps a recipie book for the elements youve already made and a reference book for all the powers and traits you've already used would be pretty nice, but this isn't a necessity

Once again, this is probably my favourite gamejam entry so far and there are a lot of bangers in here.

Developer

Omg thank you so much for your lovely words. We're so happy you've enjoyed our silly game and hope you did, in fact, made the biggest and baddest homunculus in existence.

To your more specific feedbacks :

- Oh no someone found it ! :x Yes, we realised that you could use the healing/recycle "abuse" to make your game easier. I guess the only drawback is that you have to redo your little buddies, but the healing system is more of a "ghost" of the beginning of the jam than a really thought system. Will probably swap for an auto-heal or something else entirely.

- The menu bug is linked to a transition/tweening issue, if you don't let the "animation" plays to the end it'll visually bug, but you can indeed find your way back by clicking to the other buttons. Nice catch.

- A recipe to ingredients you've already made is something that I want to add indeed, or at least something to add to the alchemy screen, so you can strategize better.

Thanks again for taking the time to test our entry, there's a lot of them in that jam.

We wish you the best ! 🦝🦝

This is one of the best jam entries, my only issues are the dissapearing menu's bug, and the fact you lose everything when your homunculi die

Thanks for your feedback 💖

We'll do our best to fix these ! 🦝🦝

WOW! Your game is really nice, I like it! Also, it has many humor like sounds, artworks or the concept in general. It's well made project, good job :)

But when I run it first time I caught the bug with unvisible menu of combinating the elements and I didn't be able to continue the game. Anyway, amazing entry

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot ! Will fix that bug as soon as I can, sorry you encountered it ! :(

Thank for your kind words ! <3

I had so much fun making little guys and watching them fight. Sadly, I was not skilled enough to get past the 4th battle. Would love to see this as a full game one day

Developer(+1)

oh no this isn't about skill, this is on us ! We misread the difficulty spike, so sorry :( That will be fixed on a post-jam build !

Thanks for your nice words and we're very happy you've enjoyed your play time 💖

Really fun game! The game has quite a polished feel to it and a lot of content, I’m impressed. The art is so unique & quirky in the best way, I love it! ❤️

Didn’t make it past the first boss either btw, but here are some notes I took:

  • Add a speed up button for the fights. I mean, I love to see the little creatures fight, but also in games like this I like to decide how long I do that. Also helps with the “grind” when rematching to get more money.
  • Show me how much ingredients I have directly in the phone. This way I don’t have go to the Homunculus Maker to check, and have better feedback in the phone seeing the numbers go up.
  • For the alchemy, if I’ve discovered a “recipe” once, always show me what the result will be for this one, when I select the combination again. Then I don’t have to remember, makes it easier to find new combinations.
  • I am sure this one is just me, but in the Homunculus Maker I always clicked on the bottom right “Return” button instead of the button in the center. I am just so used to “bottom right” == “confirm” 😅
  • I had a bug that broke the game for me, the menu just disappeared and I couldn’t interact with anything. Actually had to restart twice because of it - but I think I figured out how it happens. Seems like if you close a menu (I mean e.g. the Homunculus Maker), and then click really fast on another or the same menu, the new menu will not be shown. Screenshot below where UI is just gone.

Again, your game has very polished feel, looks beautiful, is already fun, and will be even more fun if you balance the difficulty in the beginning a bit more. Very well done! 🙌

Thanks a lot for your feedback ! It's great to hear everything you had to say. A lot of what you say is completely valid and I added what was missing to my to do list. The difficulty spike and the UI bug are very frustrating ! I'll fix them asap when the jam is finished.

Thank you 💖

I find myself transported back to the golden age of Newgrounds games.
+ Great game loop with a lot of content
+ Tons of variation in how to build your gremlins
+ Wizard street fights never go out of style
- I really wish there was more info about what the advanced table combos would give you. I was just combining things at random, cause I couldnt remember which combos I needed to get any specific outcome.
- I wish the cell phone showed how much of each reagent I already owned
- The music loop does get a bit repetitive

Developer(+1)

Love the Newgrounds reference. Completely agree on that, got that feeling too ! Thanks for your precious feedback. I've added everything you said to my todo list.

We're so happy you've enjoyed the wizard street fight club ! 🦝🧙🦝

I don't know your analytics, but it might be worth sharing this game on the discord intermittently to get it some more attention.
It felt like it might be mad underrated, so I was mentioning it to a few people this morning.

We'll follow your advice on sharing the game on the server ! Marketing is hard.

Thank you for the publicity and the supporting words.

This is such a standout title not just because of the amazing and alternative art but because of the absolute funk and style you guys injected into the game.

I want to preface this by saying I could NOT get passed the first boss. It took me quite a while to get past the triple team on fight 3 and then I thought I was set but the first boss or (first real fight) absolutely destroyed me and I lost all my money and I was back to square one.

I'm not a huge fan of having to grind so much and I feel like if I wanted to progress I would need to constantly grind for cash (which is even slower due to needing to pay to heal) then experiment a bunch to get cool advanced alchemy.

Don't get me wrong I love the alchemy and homunculus systems but the barrier to entry to experiment to get good stuff is a bit too high in my opinion. If there was some sort of homunculus testing ground where you could see the results of your experiment and play around with the recipes to mix and match it would have been awesome.

I wish I could have gotten further because I genuinely love this game but the grinding just wore me down too much. Other than that, 10/10.
