  • This is a fantastic game that is very well polished and has an amazing atmosphere, and the dash mechanic runs seamlessly and feels great. The jumping puzzles were fun and just enough of a challenge to keep me engaged and wanting to play more. I would have loved to have seen more incorporation of both the shadow and alchemy themes in the actual game play. Overall, I would love to see more of this world and game.
  • The game is beautiful, plays well, but besides naming the character a wind alchemist and having a shadow person/monster in the story, the themes are used in name only, however this is one is so highly polished and the controls are so good even when used a track pad, I still have to praise you for the game overall.

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes!

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
Absolutely - linked in the files and in the description!

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Indubitably! (Yes!)

Tell us about your game!
The game is a 3D platformer with a simple goal of getting to the top of the tower - however along the way, you can collect tablets detailing the story and world, as well as two abilities that will help you climb higher! Controller is recommended, but Mouse and Keyboard works just fine too!

Extra Notes
I hope the game is compelling and engaging enough to be completed on its own, but just in case none of the judges have time to finish it, I've included a full playthrough video in the description - personally, I think it's at least worth watching for the ending cutscene ;)

Holy hecc this is such a beautiful game. So well made and incredibly polished, so I really wish I could only have praise for it but I have to agree with other commenters: the game is too punishing for a gamejam. I really really wanted to get all the lore fragments and finish the game but after failing the final(?) gauntlet 5 times and falling to the bottom of the tower I just can't. I spent over hour on this and about 50% of that was just me climbing back up to the place where I was previously.

Making punishing games isn't necessarily bad, in fact one of my favourite games is getting over it but in the time I spent not even experiencing anything new in this game I could've looked at like 4 other submissions. A  tab in the escape menu that lets you teleport to any extinguished bonfire would make this game a 1000 times better.

I love everything else about the game though, the movement, especially the dash feels very satisfying and precise. The part where you have to jump right at the end of a dash to keep the momentum is really cool, it was a very clever idea to put a little green circle to signal where you have to start the dash from. And the lore fragment thats there is a really good reward for it (my working theory is that we play as the Lilu). Overall one of the coolest games here that i sadly wont be able to finish.

PS.: Another small thing that I noticed is that looking up makes the game really struggle. This doesn't really impact the experience but I thought you might appreciate feedback on things that might be worth looking into

Thanks so much for the kind words! It's so glaringly obvious to me in hindsight that a "Getting Over It" style game is not a good fit for a game jam, but well, now I know. For what it's worth, I do plan on updating the game as soon as the judging period is over to add a sort of "checkpoint" ability as well as some other fixes I didn't have time for during the jam.

I'm really glad you figured out the momentum trick for getting the 8th tablet! I wanted it to be subtle, but not impossible to figure out, so to hear that someone managed to find it on their own makes me happy.

I'm glad to hear that! Obviously lack of time can screw plans over, I wanted my game to have so much more stuff in it too but i simply couldn't do it all before the deadline lol. Tbh difficulty is quite hard to gauge, I also made mine way too difficult. I'm definitely gonna check out the update tho, cant wait :>

Love the dash! Feels super nice, vfx and sfx are on point.

The game feels very punishing and it is not a good suit for a game jam. (learnt it myself but still I make those mistakes sometimes...)
In the game jam / demo of a game you wanna show as much of the game potential as possible in a short amount of time that players gonna spent on it. And as much as people love challanging games there are tons of games to check out in the gamejam so appeal is a very important factor if you want to have players give your game some more attention.

Sorry but after falling 2 times I gave up so won't be albe to give you a full game feedback.

Wow the level of polish and atmosphere on display here is off the charts.

I'm just so sad that it turned out to be a "getting over it" style platformer. Maybe I just suck at games these days but the second I fell off the moving platforms after I climbed up a little I just instantly lost interest in the game. I hoped with all my heart the little fire/urn things were checkpoints that I could reset to but I couldn't find an option for this. Genuinely sad that I couldn't keep playing this beautiful game because it's just NOT my kind of thing.

The visuals are without a doubt amazing, every inch of the world and the character looks great from the models to the environment to the effects.

The music and sound effects are so so good. Instantly as soon as I loaded into the world I was like "ugh feels in my heart" and was immediately reminded of the game Journey.

From what I played the game was really responsive and finding the dash was cool (probably required?) I just didn't get very far at all because I can't stomach these types of climber games.I thought it might have been a really cool metroidvania when I got the dash as it gave me those vibes... but alas.

Please add some noob protection/checkpoints for people like me. I really wanted to play this and get the full experience but I just don't have the time for games that punish you so badly for falling off a platform.

Really nice atmosphere. Not good enough to keep climbing past the first floaty plates unfortunately.

I love the ambiance you captured for this, so mysterious and isolating. It made me want to keep climbing! The atmospheric distortion effect on things in the distance was a very nice touch. I found the controls solid, too. I didn't see the tower with the dash at first, and thought I was done after finding a tablet (volume 2 I think?) then I found the dash and realized there's a LOT more to this game.

Good stuff!

Very polished, a bit tricky to control sometimes, but that might just be a skill issue on my part. Good Job!

So pretty, wow. It reminds me of Journey a little bit. I loooove the environment. And the music and sounds give it a peaceful atmosphere, which is what I was going for with my game too. If I did half as well as this, then I'd be happy! I didn't get to the top, because I kept falling, but I'll try to come back to it and finish it.

Edit: I see there's an ending cutscene, yeah I definitely want to come back and see that.
