  • In regards to the themes, as the starting point here, I found the way you decided to put together the process of showing the player how to craft drinks for the customers was creative, but, I cannot say that the overall game was all that unique when playing. For the themes, shadow didn't stand out to me, mostly because all I interpreted was 'dark fantasy creatures that wanted drinks'. In the sense of alchemy, it was obviously the creation of the drinks, which honestly felt more simplistic (outside of the controls and process it takes to make them). While, again, the controls were not complicated to follow on paper, I struggled less with the creation part (rereading the instructions to be safe), but more with the directional controls. During my time playing, there would be moments when I went to see what drink to make next, and then attempt to go make it, but the controls switched from regular and inverted several times. This ultimately made the experience harder to focus on, so I'm not sure if it's a browser 'issue' or something else that could be managed. All in all, the concept and production of your game was interesting to see, so keep up the hard work.
  • The game is playable, but there are a number of bugs that reduce the enjoyability, such as when the player is in a corner, the WASD keys and the camera synchronise. And also I found it quite difficult to put things into the cauldron quite difficult, and I ended up getting stuck in the cauldron. It seems like much of this could have been solve with more playtesting. I'm not sure how the game fits the theme. The gloomy bar is shadowy, it is just cosmetic and the game would be the same with or without. And I don't think mixology can be classed as alchemy, since we know precisely what the product will be; alchemy more about the mystery. The game could be a little more original, but it is a good effort at implementing the idea. The art style leaves something to be desires, there is a mixture of styles here with varying complexities although the overall theme appears to be high fantasy/medieval.

Wow, that was a very interesting game! I really liked the graphics and sounds. The gameplay was good too, but definitely got confusing as it kept changing overtime (which I think is part of the game so makes sense!).

I'm surprised that this kind of game could run in the browser too haha. Looked really nice!

Overall a fun good time! Great job!

thx man this game jam was just to see what I could do with the older version of unreal, seems like it has most of the features still intact

I liked the idea of this game. The game itself was pretty good, too.

I think introducing the drunk controls and reversal was probably the single most jarring thing that happened while playing it, because there was no real indication anywhere that could happen before it did. I agree with the other commenter who suggested that should be introduced after some success.

Developer

thanks for playing, play testing really important to find these issues I can see why people keep doing game jams, as it definitely seems like a way to get alot of feedback

I'd say it needs more of a tutorial in the game itself, art is well done, reversal should be held off for a bit until player at least completes 5-7 drink.  Art/style was pretty solid.

Developer

thanks for playing, yeah I feel people dont like the powerpoint slide for a tutorial :D

I ran his bar into the ground...

  • Controls were a little finicky and sometimes they would be reversed but it got the job done
  • I liked having to run around talking to patrons, checking the recipe and then making the thing. Really felt like I was working at a bar :)
  • A great start for a game and can see the potential with more time and polish

Overall, a fun little bar simulator!

Nice ahahah, drunk controls are fun, the game surely needs some polish but for a 2 weeks games is not that bad, nicely done !

GG, keep up the good work !

Interesting idea, but reversing the controls from the very beginning makes it impossible to learn the proper control scheme. I'd save something like that for another harder level of the game.

Developer

yeah sounds like a lot of people got frustrated with it, I think I need to tweak it better

I like the concept! idk if I'm bad at the game but I could only serve one person haha. I also think it's funny how we both have games made in Unreal that have "The Dark Side" in the title

great minds think alike :D

The idea is pretty nice, but i do not like the input changes. Effect like input/mouse reversal is more annoying than fun in my opinion.
Would have liked a tutorial to introduce the game a bit but otherwise not bad.

Developer

Thanks, The input change stuff is more of a funny to watch for other people :D
