- I love a good pixel art game, and the platforming mechanics are nice! the mechanic of combining salts is clever too, but a few of the skills feel underutilized or not that useful, like the dash or the wall dash. Another thing is that the final level, rather than being linear, is much more open. This is a problem when all the previous levels have been linear and thus you have no expectation for this. When trying to do a shift like this, try to introduce it more gradually to give the player some time to get used to it. Also, there were many times when keyboard inputs with wall jumping, and double or triple jumping after dropping off a ledge, simply did not register, which made some of the gameplay a bit frustrating. Also, when making a platformer, its almost never a good idea to have the players make a blind jump that they might miss, as having to die to figure out precisely where to jump is kind of annoying. However, this game is beautiful, the lighting effects are fantastic and the art design and sound/music design are great! The little character you play as is adorable and I love them. Overall I enjoyed playing this game and would give it a 3.5 overall. The art and sound design are really clever and I encourage you to develop this project more! This could turn into something really special when it comes to platforming!
- Though I found the artistic style and approach to be done quite well, along with the fact that the music and sound effects were also done well, I cannot say that I was huge on the speedrunning aspect of the game as a whole. Through my time playing, it felt more like I was being rushed to comprehend what was going on around me, rather than having the chance to take in everything (again, with the understanding of the mechanics of a speedrun). I cannot say that this aspect of play was fun for me. In regards to the themes used, I did find that the specific colors/items you gathered were used in a more creative way when it came to traversing the space provided. This aspect of the controls did stand out a bit to me, but having the time to ensure they worked was not fully possible for me (by the time I was able to understand how one thing worked, I had already lost or took too long). While this may not be the kind of game I'd play under the guise of a speed run, I'd like to see if there was a way to play this with that aspect as optional (more of my personal nitpick here, nothing I think needs to be taken too seriously, especially if that would end up changing the core mechanics of your game altogether). All the same, do keep up the hard work.

Tell us about your game!
Acension is a game about a fire elementalist falling down into a hole and having to find his way back to the surface using his elemental abilities combined with salts to make the flame burn in different colors yielding abilities of different kinds. But don't rush too much, there might be something hiding in the shadows that will make you not get all the way to the top.
Your survival is determined by whether or not you have light shining on you, when your torch burns out you die, so keep the torch burning while navigating this weird underground cave/dungeon system.
The levels are timed and your records will be saved. Compare the results with your friends and try to beat their time. Happy speed-running!
Default Controls
Movement: A and D
Jump: W
Dash: Shift
Interact: F
Reset Level: R
Activate unlocked ability: 1, 2 and 3
All Controls are remappable in the settings!
Regarding the abilities: Two can be activated simultaneously and will give a 3rd "hidden" ability on-top. (It's intended to be explored by the player but if you want to spoil yourself just take a look at the GDD where the combinations are explained)
