Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous and shown in a random order.

  • A competent attempt at a first game programming tutorial, but not much else.
  • Neat game, very short, aligns with the theme reasonably well. Would have liked to see additional tools, tactics etc for avoiding the authorities or catching the targets.

Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
Misinformed is a single-player survival game about spreading a virus.

Collect fake news to use your cough ability to spread your virus, run towards the NPC and away from the authorities.

Controls:

Arrow Keys - Movement
Left Shift - Run
Spacebar - Cough

Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Extra Notes
Big shout out to Thor for putting this Game Jam together and inspiring me to get into game development. This is my first-time learning game development. The missing mechanic of the game would be a timer that continues to spawn more authorities to make the game harder. A small-town map would be my next step for an environment to traverse.

Great start on your development path! As others stated the audio noise for the enemy is quite annoying.

Would like to see more enemies spawn or NPCs/Newspapers. Game was quite short was looking for a few rounds.
WASD integration would have bene nice as well.

Developer

Thanks Krono!

I have reduced the trumpet siren for the enemy quite a bit until I decide on a volume control UI. still learning all that stuff! :)

There is now an enemy spawning a certain radius away from the player every 10 seconds now, for now its a typical survival arena experience. NPC and newspapers now respawn as well, and you have to try and make it to 50 points to win. WASD is also included now :)

Movement felt really good and I loved the clown horn sirens lol Great submission!

Developer

haha thanks! definitely need volume slider as that can definitely cause some anxious sensory responses and need to consider all gamers!

Very fun entry. Would have loved WASD integration in not just arrow keys. Overall lots of fun and very impressive!

Developer

Yeah very true, I added them but forgot to update my submission! I am working on another published version which should be available now. The game has WASD included and is now randomized NPC, Enemy and collectable locations each session. Thanks again!

Nicely done! Good interpretation of the theme.

I will say about 10% of the time I had trouble "infecting" civilians, even when it looked like they were well within range. Typically it was when I chased them horizontally. I had to change angle and chase them on a diagonal to get more consistent results.

Overall great work!

Thanks Charstar25!

I am definitely debugging the code and colliders for that, it seems to be hit and miss. I've also discovered my movement mathematics allows for too fast movement if you keep doing diagonally.  The v2 build on my page includes some nice respawning mechanics for the NPC and newspapers to try and get 50 points to win. Just for now until I decide on a direction and genre for this game. Thinking of designing an open city park map or something too. Cheers!

Nice reverse zombie game. Clown nose sound is weird for the enemies. Hurt sound sounds like a fart.

Developer

Thank you! I wanted to try and avoid the vampire survivors gameplay loop that seems to be over saturated and I approached it the opposite way with my idea and it seems to work well! Haha thanks again :D

Good one! :D You interpreted the theme very nicely, for a prototype it's quite polished!

Thank you! Really appreciate the feedback!

Very solid game. Would like to see the Newspapers respawn and possibly strengthen the cough to allow faster virus spread and area affect. Also maybe have WASD along with Arrow Keys as you have L-Shift and Spacebar as action keys. My brain didn't make sense of arrow keys alone and not being able to use WASD lol.

Developer

Thank you! I will definitely add those suggestions, The newspaper respawn was an oversight for those that don't manage to successfully use 1 for 1 against the NPCs. Cheers for the feedback!

Noise is a bit grating on the ears, some sort of volume control would help those of us with sensory issues. Does the news respawn? I seem to have run out and can't cough anymore. Would be good to see a visual on how much health NPCs have left.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for suggesting that, I will temporarily equalize the volumes until I learn the volume control ui. Thank you for trying out the game :)
