Description
Cave Crawlers is for one of the first levels. Maybe a tutorial. The player is sneaking around trying to blend in with the enemy.

Faking it is for a cut scene where the character is trying to convince themselves that they are not part of the LGBTQ+ community. In this scene, the player removes all of their pride powerups in favour of non-pride powerups. These powerups give the player a negative status effect but make them less likely to be detected by enemies. It is meant to make the game interesting midway through.

Almost accepted will play at the very end of the game. The character has made it out of the dungeon with a few wounds but they are on the journey to self-love. It's meant to make you cry... a lot.

Message from the artist:
Thank you for listening to my music and happy pride!

Theme

a journey to remember.

How does it fit the theme?
The game revolves around the character's journey to self-acceptance which is definitely one to remember. The music is meant to show the turmoil of coming to terms with being different. Even the last track which is meant to show growth shows how the world will always fight you on who you are.

Music was great. Cave crawlers reminded me of navigating the workplace after I came out to everyone over email about my name and pronouns and my supervisors kept deadnaming me. (Also the dark, moody halls of the museum were very much like a cave.)

Faking it perfectly captures the mood when visitors, seeing my nametag, said things like "Wow! Interesting name! Did your parents really name you that?" Me: "...Yes." (Not exactly.) Them: "Wow. Your parents must be really...cool..."

Almost Accepted expresses how I feel when my mom describes me to others as her "eldest" rather than any gendered term for offspring (while still seeming to disregard my pronouns).

Chill, relatable vibes, I like them, would have liked more tracks to compare to the different aspects of my coming out journey. I would have probably cried more, but I just got finished crying after listening to mastoast's entry so I'm a little numb now. :) happy pride

Great instrumentation, especially for those low sounds! Nice spin on the journey theme, too. :)

I loved the steady pulse throughout all of the tracks. I especially liked the driving 16th notes at the end of the last track. Your friend did an incredible job mixing and mastering your tracks as well. Awesome job!

Really unique idea for the narrative- I think it works well with what you've got! Nice!

I think you have really unusual game concept. A different journey :) Music is simple, but soothing to ears. I love this little calm beat in "Almost Accepted". Good job ♥

"Journey through the homophobic dungeons and fight your way through self-doubt"
I came for the music, and stayed for the plot. Actually laughed out loud.

On a more serious note, cave crawlers is my jam. That plucky call and answer melody was so simple yet really effective. I felt those homophobes around every corner.

The intention on each piece is clear, you prove that you don't need dozens of tracks or intricate compositions in order to successfully portray an emotion.

Three short pieces that musically illustrate a quest for self-acceptance. The sounds are clear, the melodies simple but carry in them all the desired symbolism, in particular with these rising and falling disordered scales which perfectly illustrate that the hero/heroine does not know who he/she is, and where to go. The choice of the very singular tone color and the dissonant superposition of the two melodies of the second music ideally represent the conflict of lying to oneself, while the last piece exchanges the disordered scales for clear chords, while retaining the singular tone colors of the previous track: the will for self-acceptance, while remaining oneself against the world. Simple but effective.
