Description
- Genre of soundtrack -
This soundtrack is made of only one piece of music (03:18), and was meant to be played along with a cutscene or an important section of the plot.
As for many of my inspirations, the game could be a RPG with a particular attention accorded to the story, with quite a cinematic vibe. It's not necesseraly a fantasy game, since the theme and the illustration evoke to me rather a dystopian setup. Something with huge political and social themes, rebellions and appealing characters. This particular piece eovke hope, dreams, heroism but also traumas, struggles and hard times (hence the title).

- Process -
Firstly I improvised on the piano, looking for themes and atmosphere. Then I wrote down the score (with MuseScore), figuring essentially the main themes, the structure, the chords, the basses, and some basic orchestral ideas… Finally I orchestrated the score directly on the DAW (Reaper).

Message from the artist
A way darker piece was started to counterbalance this one, but I ran out of time and couldn't finish it. It was my fisrt participation, so I hope I have better time managment next time !

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The theme and the artwork does not only evoke something positive ; it shows how fragile and difficult freedom can be, and that people sometimes have to stand for it. So I wanted to create a narrative piece, perhaps suitable for a cutscene, that could embrace all of these aspects : delicateness, a sense of hope, but also the reminiscence of hard times and the bravery required to overcome those difficulties.

Wow wow, astronomical composition here, from start to finish I was encapsulated. Amazing work!

Yesssss such a great composition! Everything about this is amazing from the mix to the melodies, but the real highlight for me is just how emotionally descriptive every single one of these chord changes are. It feels like there's not a single wasted note in this entire orchestration. Absolutely phenomenal!

This is really, really pretty. Stellar use of dynamics and articulation when it comes to the piano playing. It's so tender; each note feels handcrafted to achieve exactly what it needs to. I absolutely adore how subtle the supporting orchestration is when it first comes in - the barest hints of it bolstering the track and providing some motion and sustained notes to really emphasize the tone. The way it gradually builds up and then takes the forefront as the lead is great, and I cannot give enough kudos for how well done the layering is.

Having some tension come into the voicings around the 2/3rds mark is fantastic as it varies the piece up and keeps it engaging, before embarking on a crescendo to resolve said tension and then give way to a gorgeously soft outro section. Piano playing here is, once again, right where it needs to be with just the right amount of supporting elements to push it that tiny bit further and really have it sing.

This is some genuinely fantastic orchestration, probably one of if not the best I've heard in this jam. Cannot pay enough compliments to how well structured and commentary all the individual sections are to one another. Phenomenal job - thoroughly enjoyable listen. Evocative, powerful and so seamlessly put together.

this orchestral piece is MAGNIFICENT... your control over your instrument palette and the parts they play to make such a beautiful composition really shows in this. 1:48 really captured me; this track would work REALLY well in a cinematic or cutscene for when, in your videogame concept, perhaps they find a new location and see how fantastical it is.

love the return at the end to the introductory section; the ending is also nice and satisfying. lovely work! :D

You did a fantastic job keeping the track engaging with the harmonic development throughout. The instrumentation was solid as well!

I think it would've been cool to hear a more dynamic left-hand part for the piano, maybe some arpeggiation to keep with the flowy nature of the track.

Very enjoyable listen, great work!

I like the orchestration on this track! I don't really have any comments on this as it captures what you were aiming for pretty well.

The progression on the track is great. You capture your take on the theme perfectly! I have really no bad points to give here, it's a really solid submission overall!

I really like your take on the subject.

It really captures the hope starting to grow inside after the picture of the contest happened.

Great work!
