Description
You’ve grown up all your life in the small town of Blowfly. Your life has been normal enough--some oddities here and there--but over the past few years, you’ve been noticing that something is off with the town and the people. Everything comes crashing down when, on your sixteenth birthday, your parents sit you down and tell you what Blowfly really is. And that you have been given the greatest honor this town can bestow--to be a sacrifice.

Escape is the only option. That or your life.

I’m envisioning a 3d story driven game here, maybe like a 3rd person, single-player Dead by Daylight.

Main Theme: Name explains it well enough, sets up some motifs I use later (notably in the town theme). Set up a musical cliffhanger at the end to tease the horror aspect of the game.

This Small Town Called Blowfly: The theme for Blowfly. I wanted to evoke the kind of feelings for a small town in the middle of nowhere, so this track only has one instrument: acoustic guitar. I tried to make the performance “fiddly”, like someone who knows how to play well enough but isn’t a virtuoso is playing it.

The Ritual: This would be one of the chase tracks in the game. I tried to make it as spooky as possible! The heavy use of choir is for portraying the town performing some sort of chant or ritual.

This Small Cult Called Blowfly: As you progress through the game, the town theme evolves as you learn the dark secrets of your town. What was once relaxing is now eerie.

Message from the artist
I tried to make something more out of my comfort zone and focus on sound design this time. Hope it worked!

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I decided to take the "Freedom" theme literally with the "escape from a cult" story. When I saw the artwork, what struck me was the negative lighting painting jail bars on the wall, which I feel fits with the story I have made.

Really great work here, I like the game idea you described and the music definitely fits! I love The Ritual, the rhythmic instrument looping in the background and the driving kick drum are great at creating that feeling of being chased. My favourite track has to be the Main Theme though, I love the flute and that evil bass synth, they really work to create an uneasy atmosphere even before you start the game.

really fascinating game.

The music fits the atmosphere perfectly.

It really captures that subtle sense of madness lurking just beneath the surface of everyday life.

Just a touch of insanity—and it’s done really well.

It’s genuinely interesting. I’m not even sure how to describe it, but I really like it.

The atmosphere here is unmatched - so eerie and off-putting, yet still not enough to sound bad - it's a fantastic example of how to do a horror OST right. The story here is very indie-game-y, which makes me really want this to be a real project lol.

Great production, great music, great plot - great job!

Very eerie and creative. Great job!

Nice work, particularly with the synth stuff! Very spooky, very effective!

The Ritual was spooky!!! You def. nailed the vibe.  Like how you spookified your small town song too. Nice work!

The concept is nice, that's definitely a game I'd like to try !
I really like the fact that you thought about the guitar aspect and who could play it to match the village vibe you wanted. The last track is definitely a good idea, very nightmarish, it's time to leave this f*****g town for good xD It works pretty well I think, good job !

Cool concept and soundtrack !

The one I like the most is This Small Town Called Blowfly, very chill vibe and well written. And it was a great idea to change it in This Small Cult Called Blowfly and give it that ominous and distorted mood.

I think there's a real contrast beetween those two and the others, maybe too much as they are very different in style.

But it's a nice submission to listen to, well done !

Great way to use the theme!

Amazing work

the choice of instrumentation for "This Small Town Called Blowfly" is very well thought out, nicely done!! i love that you made an alteration of it to convey a drastic change in your conceptual videogame's plot; i am a SUCKER for videogames that either employ dynamically changing music or theme variations. :~)

i'm quite elated that you chose to represent a larger timeframe of the videogame so that we could get a feel of how the plot progresses; i've love to hear what the other tracks would be and what scenarios they'd be for, if you ever develop this further!

Something I really appreciate is how every instrument for each of these feels very intentional and manages to do a lot. The choice for a solo guitar on "This Small Town Called Blowfly" really gave it a nice isolated feeling, I'm definitely sold on the small, rural town with a cult vibes. "This Small Cult Called Blowfly" genuinely gave me chills.

Nailed that town theme very warm and comfy! I love how it changes to be dark and eerie, still having that distant feeling of comfort but that has long past.

I like how the narrative starts off with more of an illusion of freedom, and you yearn for true freedom in the narrative. Definitely different from the other subs on here, while still staying in theme well!

i love the folkiness of the instrumentation that gets underscored by unsettling synths and basses, that makes for a really cool combination.  this is a really effective concept that you executed on equally well, great work!

God damn the atmosphere in these are so great, the homeyness of the town theme is a great contrast to the tense ritual, if this game was real I'd have no doubt that the OST would be one of the defining factors of its hypothetical obsession the internet would have on it for like 2 weeks. Oh and also Markiplier would for sure play it.

Man I really love how well the soundtrack pairs with your game concept. The main theme is so good I love how it sets up a mysterious atmosphere. This Small Town Called Blowfly really sells the whole cozy yet slightly off feeling its my favorite track, especially since it comes right after the first track.  I also really love how you twist the cozy melody in This Small Cult Called Blowfly big fan of that. Great job I love it sm (also the whole dbd comparison got had me imagining running around rotten fields while a cult is chasing me lol)

Really liked the play between 'This Small Town Called Blowfly' and 'This Small Cult Called Blowfly', it sold the effect you wanted perfectly!

Also liked 'Main Theme' a lot, it gave an eerie feeling that was very fun to listen to!

Great work!

this submission immediately caught my attention as someone who's super into the horror genre, and WOW!!!!!! i love everything about this!!!

the motif for "this small town called blowfly" is simple yet catchy, and how you managed to reuse this track for the last track with some dissonance and distortion sprinkled in was phenomenal!! "the ritual" also absolutely NAILED the tensed/horror aspect, could feel my neck hair stood up as i listened to it! i also LOVEE the piano comp for the main theme and how the track gradually descends into what is essentially madness barely visible on the surface. the droning gritty bass and the panning horn sounds really sold the effect as well!

awesome job overall!! 😁😁😁

You went for sound design and I think you nailed it!

The ritual in particular was really well done with the warbling noise!

And the dichotomy of the 2 town songs was really great too!

Thematically this is incredibly on point. Super creative take on the theme and the execution is nothing short of fantastic. Each track feels quite distinct, and the variety in tone here is great. I love the disparity between the Main Theme and The Ritual. The former feels as though it could've been ripped from an already existing game; I love the use of natural instrumentation offset by some really moody bass and sound design elements. Meanwhile, the latter is such a departure - eerie, choir pads and a solid kick to keep the pulse of the track. I feel like this functions perfectly for a chase sequence as you've mentioned. It has that "breathing down your neck" kind of quality that makes you not want to turn around.

Great work! Super fun listen and quite a unique adventure to go on.

Nailed the sound design! It's funny how taken aback I was when I heard This Small Town Called Blowfly, but it was perfect for what you wanted to convey. But the real highlight for me was This Small Cult Called Blowfly! It really shows a nice progression from beginning to the end and could definitely see the game happening. Great job!
