Description
JPRG, inspired a bit by the goofiness of Earthbound, all made in FL Studio

Message from the artist
I was hoping to get 10 tracks done to have more music for more context in the story, but due to time constraints, I got 4 as polished as I could get it!

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
The main character is in the middle of a coma and has LIS syndrome (title name being [Li]ving [I]n [S]omnus, as play on words) but doesn't know she is. Game starts as a happy fun dream-like adventure but gets dark as the character slightly gets hints that this isn't all real and that she is in fact in a dream and her illness isn't getting any better as flashbacks of her misremembering happen.

Really nice mix of instruments throughout this, and produced so well too. Great job exploring different styles and really pushing each of them - Home Theme explores some gorgeous orchestration. The 8-bit first section kicking into the sax was completely unexpected but works so well. I think this track is my favorite of the bunch, personally.

RAM-Eater comes in as a close second - this reminds me of some of the more experimental kind of tracks you'd find in the 16-bit era days, particularly Yuzo Koshiro. Reminds me a little bit of the arcade theme - solid melodies, great accompaniment but a menacing tone and some interesting choice of voicings (the bells do a great job of adding this tense flair to the track).

Great work, this was a delight to listen to and produced really well. Varied selection of tracks that explore a couple of different styles and some really nice ear candy in general. Loving the FL theme too, dark all the way!

Title Theme: I really like the upbeat and playful nature of this opening track! The twinkling sounds give a great dream-like quality along with the pads. The guitar-work you have is excellent - that is always something I struggle with. I’m curious if your guitar instrument strums for you? Or if not, how did you produce that type of sound?

Home Theme: The more retro sound gives this a nostalgic flare that works so well for a home theme. Wow that saxophone melody over the arpeggiating synth and drum kit groove gives this song a really fun, warm power. This track is my favorite of your OST!

Town Theme: This has an Earthbound sound to it right off the bat. I really like the experimental nature of the melody and chord progression - it makes this a really fun track while giving character to the town that it accompanies.

RAM-EATER: This is a unique and fun battle-sounding theme. I can tell you are fighting a technological enemy based on the sounds chosen.

Overall: Gosh, I really can’t imagine what else you would come up with if you had time to write the entire 10 track soundtrack. The four songs you gave us have lots of personality and energy and provide both variety and cohesion. Your influences are clear, but this also demonstrates your unique style, which I am a fan of! Excellent work and thank you for sharing!

Thabk you! And as for the the guitar it's a VST from Ample Sounds, it's their free version of it but they have paid versions that have a lot more features.

Great submission!! The mix of styles is excellent and really nice sense of rhythm.

I really enjoyed listening to the full OST. Boss Theme is my fave, I loved the dark quality of the background.

GREAT WORK!!!!

Great job!!

Love all the styles and instruments you use across this! This was a blast to listen to!

This OST is bubbly and fun! I really enjoyed the mix of electronic sounds and more traditional instruments. RAM-EATER was for sure the stand out track for me. Cool OST!

Wow, each piece is literally completely different from the previous one, yet the main musical theme is recognizable, just served in different styles. The last track is very unexpected, but you have some really interesting passages (like those descending scales played by a synth-bell). Definitely one of the nicest chiptunes I've heard this days; the saxophone is a great touch!!

Thank you so much!

This is a really solid and polished batch of tracks! I liked the sax and the vocal sample on the home theme, and that lead melody is really catchy; I can definitely see myself humming this for days to come lol

Developer

Thank you, I always try my best to make all my melodies very catchy, I usually just hum melodies I think of record whatever I find catchy on my phone or recording device a d write in music during composition time! :)

Very nice work!  Love how expressive each track is as they meld into something new!  Very groovy, fun, and unique tracks that all stand out.  Only small nitpick would be the quality of the guitar on Title Theme , other than that I think everything else is great.  Love the atonal melody you use in RAM-EATER, works really well with the bass and percussion.  Awesome stuff, def hear the Earthbound influence in the groove/sound selection!  Really fun listen.

Developer

For sure thanks for listening!

always respect the decision to tone down a submission because you wanted polish over more stuff, thats what I did as well and while I think it paid off for me i also think it paid off for you as well! All of these flow really nicely into each other and are full of really interesting ideas, and while it took me a second to get into the groove RAM-EATER quickly became my favourite, in part because of how many cool ideas you executed in it! Always down for some tonally ambiguous music and you did a very good job there. I would watch out a little bit on reverb as the first three definitely have a little bit too much for my tastes (to the point where it creates a bit of tonal white noise that interferes with some of the other sounds) but thats certainly more of a nitpick that doesnt change my overall opinion much, if at all. Very good job!

Thanks or the listen and your personal feedback!

Damn! All of your OSTs are masterpieces! I felt like I was traveling "inside your world" through your OSTs. Really a great work! ❤

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed these!

First of all, that cover is AMAZING did you draw it?

And yeah I'm glad you decide to polish 4 tracks instead of pushing to 10. Quality over quantity, you know? Your chiptune style is awesome but the more dance vibe from RAM-EATER is also interesting. The kick could have had more low-end but other percussions and bass were on point. (I love the perc that was drooping down.) Yours is also probably the first submission that I think really fits the cover art. That allows me to have a good picture of what kind of game this would fit in!

The art is by https://x.com/cherubriot, and thank you so much glad you enjoyed each track! :)

when I heard the title theme, I wasn't expecting a sound like RAM-EATER to be in the track list haha but either way I really enjoyed listening to these tracks.

Developer

For sure I was planning 6 other tracks to go with it to add more context to the other tracks to glue it more but ran out of time sadly. Thank you for listening!
