Description
The inspiration for these 3 songs were from some Nintendo games like The Legend Of Zelda's Fairy Fountain theme, and Super Mario 64's Dire Dire Docks. The overall theme was Faith and Dreaming where the listener should feel like they are in a daze where they can feel like nothing could make them sad or down. The DAW I used is LMMS. I composed these pieces by setting up basic chords, adding new notes to them, and then made the Marimba be the lead, the Strings be the melody, and the Timp/Gong be the Percussion

Nice spooky vibe in Alone Among Myself. The use of dissonance helped a lot and also to generate contrast with the following tracks.

I love your minimalist music and your use of Timp, without a doub...very effective!!

GREAT WORK!!

I love me some dissonance and I’m so glad your entry had some! I can hear the Fair Fountain influence but you add your own take on the inspiration which is really refreshing.

I think a lot of the tracks lacked syncopation. Most notes from every instrument came in on the beat only and it cause the songs to stale a lot faster.

Try mixing up the rhythms of your melodies.

Hey great job! It's my first jam submission as well. As someone said below I think some different instruments throughout each track would go a long way - the strings get a bit tiring. I like the dissonant notes! What's great about game music is it's in the background most of the time while the player is playing, right? So dissonant notes aren't so harsh on the ear - but they still evoke emotion

This is one of the most interesting compositions I've heard in all of the pieces I've reviewed for the jam. It is because of the chord choices and the dissonant melody. I felt however (as wildionio also mentions) more dynamic expressions in your strings would have really lifted this piece up. The composition and all the fun stuff is there except the expression part, which makes it less fluid and more rigidy. But this is just constructive criticism, overall I really liked your entry! Keep up the good work !

I would really appreciate if you could also rate my entry too !

Thanks !

Good job! I think some more varied instrumentation would be helpful. Having recurring instruments is great for cohesion, but variety never hurts.

There was some either clipping or sample noise I was hearing throughout as well.

I definitely heard the M64 and LoZ influences!

Alone Among Myself is the most interesting composition for me - very bold harmonic choices here, at times quite dissonant which is cool. The pizzicato with marimba is a great pair! Dynamic expression in your strings would be a game changer, and I wonder if it would sound better to have the marimba in time with the chord changes instead of the melody (just an idea). Good job with keeping a cohesive sound throughout the soundtrack!

You would definitely hear the late 90s Nintendo influence. I was oddly reminder of Banjo & Kazooie if he had been embarking on an epic quest under water. Very cool stuff.

Hi!

I loved the energy in this one. A standout for me were your chord changes, they fit your style well, and were reminiscent of more classical pieces like canon in D.  If it had been up to me, I would have been more bold with the Marimba, put more focus on the melody, not just the chords. My favorite was the last song.

Thank you so much!!! I didn't think this was good sounding. Also thank you for the feedback on suggesting to have the marimba stand out more in the melody. I'll be sure to remember that for future reference.
