Description
I love orchestral soundtracks which is why i decided to go this way.
Mood is lyrical and dark, just as Oliver's destiny in my imaginary game is (more description about imaginary game story is on https://3yy3.itch.io/timeless).

Orchestral composition and orchestration made using Musescore 4.1, mastering done in Reaper DAW.

My inspiration comes from composers like Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Gustav Holst, John Williams, Austin Wintory, Ólafur Arnalds, Bruce Broughton and others.

My process started with making an imaginary game theme. When I came to conclusion on the game layout then I took four chapters from the story and made their emotions feel alive through my music.

First track describes the Oliver's dream about the time travel possibility. He saw how to build a functional time traveling machine in the dream.
Second track is about Oliver making his first travel to a different time. He is afraid at first but bravely takes the ride anyway.Third track revolves around his dissilusion about the life itself. Things he had seen left him reall dissilusioned. Fourth track is the final track from the game - Oliver becoming at peace with himself as well as the reality that he cannot die or change anything. But he finds his peace nonetheless.

Enjoy! :)

Message from the artist:
Note:

Track "Jan Vanek - 04 - Conciliation" was meant to have solo women voice. Unfortunatelly my singer got sick just before the recording. In pdf file you can see the original voice line with latin text. I had to improvize so i replaced the voice with piano, clarinet and cor anglais in Reaper DAW.

Theme:

Tick Tock...

How does it fit the theme?
Music is about the time traveler. Rhytmic elements of time are also often incorporated into the composition itself.

Such a tragic and poetic soundtrack and story! This was really beautifully and masterfully executed, I really enjoyed immersing in the story while listening to the music! Excellent arrangement and composition skills, the melodies and harmonies were very well though about and complexe yet fused together very naturally and satisfyingly. Amazing entry!!

Thank you! All this support really means a lot to me! 🙂

I’m an absolute sucker for a solid orchestral score, and this is one. The melodic content, the textures and colors you play with, the mixing, and the emotional weight of each track is so so strong. Given your description, it seems like there’s a lot of complex emotional subtext going on and it’s so well portrayed in the music.

Also, oboes/english horns are often used to symbolize death. I have no idea if you did this on purpose, but I love the use of it at the end. Not because someone has died, but because he will never die, and that is in fact the true tragedy. Amazing work!

Thank you so much for such a nice comment! Regarding the oboe and clarinet... It was originally meant to be my girlfriend singing but she got sick just before recording. I even wrote lyrics in Latin 😂. Then I choose clarinet, oboe and cor anglais because I love how lyric they are ...

Latin lyrics would also have hit the same, haha! Hope your girlfriend feels better soon!!

Timeless Dream: Very well done orchestral. Love the sidestick, gives a clock tick vibe to me.

First Travel: Cool ostinato. Love the second half with the Dorian use, use of a brighter scale than the first half really gives the "different time" feel to me.

Curse Of Time: Love this slightly dark theme, simple track but sets the mood you described perfectly.

Conciliation: Very deep and emotional. Love the harp. Great composition. Gives me Hollow Knight vibes.

Great work!

Thank you very much! Happy to hear you like it! 😊

this is some amazing work. so glad i was able to experience this. the first track was so beautiful. those strings are amazing. great composition overall. i feel like the mix was a bit too muddy for my liking but thats prob just me.

again, outstanding job. thanks for sharing!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Glad you like it! :)

Yes, the mix is certainly not the best - it was my first larger project with the Musescore. Originally I thought that I will process the whole thing in Reaper with Cinematic Studio libraries and mix it properly at the end but there remained simply no time for that :D

Submitted

i feel that. i wish i had more time with my project too. literally submitted it with like 20 seconds left on the due date lol

Developer

Haha, yeah... But I kinda like the pressure. It makes me present :D

This is a very beautiful OST that suits the intended game (and track) descriptions really well, but furthermore give me as a listener a journey of my own. Well orchestrated and a lush soundscape, especially the first track which is my top pick of the tracks.

Really well done, and while I think the replacement for the missing vocal works, it would be awesome to hear that track with the vocals at some point!

Developer(+1)

Hi, thanks for the comment! :)

Vocal version is indeed planned. I plan it for October - November (I will have an option to record it better then, right now I am working abroad and I have only limited recording equipment with me). Stay tuned! :)

Timeless dream is such a beautiful opening, I especially loved the chord switch at 1.23! It kind of indicates that his dream is going to bring sadness or desillusion.

First travel translate the fear of the first "jump" very well. Which one leads to a playful and adventurous moment!

Curse of time kinda feel static with these binary staccato violins, he feels trapped, the music express that again quite well

Conciliation felt like a good closure to this philosophic story, slow, sad and happy at the same time, like if a ton of time has passed.

Very good job overall, my favorite was the opening! 😊

Thank you! Glad you liked it! :)

I like the OST, especially First Travel and Conciliation! Well done!

Beautiful orchestration! Conciliation was my favorite as it expresses the emotions conveyed through the story especially the part about realization. Well done!

Thank you very much! :)

Awesome! The production is fantastic, and the story is very dramatic, which i feel like the music expresses very well. This sounds like it could be the soundtrack for a play.

You can very easily hear the Romantic-era classical music influence, with it sometimes leaning a bit more Romantic, and sometimes leaning a bit more Cinematic.

Overall, pretty great!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the comment! I just love mixing classical orchestra with cinematic. It has more character that way :)

This was a majestic, beautiful soundtrack! I think your first track hit me the hardest - the soaring melody and the way the music swells and softens gives me goosebumps. The story behind your concept is also really profound and thought-provoking. Well done!

Thanks! :)

Love this submission, Curse of Time is one of my favorites so far, it brings the feeling of disturbance while altering time and space, great references and thanks for the feedback, love how the motifs and colors of the themes can be felt through the whole scales of dynamic in each composition, something I consider a great challenge to achieve with sound assets.

Developer

Thank you! :)

Yes yes yes, "First Travel" is good. It makes the listener feel on edge, just like it should (considering the theme). Curse of Time is also very good.

A question: This soundtrack sound cinematic and it's somewhat complex. What type of game you had in mind? I can imagine games like Until Dawn for example, or Journey!

P.S. Poor Oliver... Must have been a lonely fella.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment! :)

Well, I just made the story up without really thinking the mechanics of it deeply - that would be for a way longer jam actually :D. But yes, overall vibe was inspired by Journey a little bit.  But that's about it.
Yup, he sure is! My goal was to portrait something no one really thinks to go through. Let's face it, many people want to be immortal and live forever. But even though it can be interesting, it can also quickly became a curse. Everything has to have the beginning and the end. :)

Submitted

Alright I see, I see. I like the phrase "everything has to have the beginning and the end", it sounds wise.

Very well-produced and cinematic orchestral tracks coupled with a touching story concept too!

Thank you!

Very cinematic colors in the orchestra. <3 I hope I'll one day have as much breath as the first flutist.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! :) Well, my score should be mostly playable. If you mean the sustained note in beginning of the Timeless dream, it's actually first and second flute interlacing. :)

Hey, I'm an Austin Wintory fan too! This is very cinematic and beautiful, with great orchestration. I think Conciliation is my favorite for how delicate it is. What libraries did you use for the orchestra? They sound awesome. Amazing job!!

Developer(+1)

Cool to hear that you are a fellow fan of AW! He is basically the reason why I started composing in the first place :)

Thanks for the comment! Libraries in this are the funny part! 95% of orchestral instruments you hear is totally free sounds(!) - Musescore 4.1 delivers pretty good sound when used right. It has a lot of inconsistencies but overall I find it quicker and more motivational to write into notation while having an opportunity to playback it right away in a decent quality. Everything was made in Musescore besides clarinet + cor anglais (Cinematic Studio Woodwinds) and piano (Pianoteq - Petrof Mistral Warm) in Conciliation.

Life has a sense of irony when after spending around 800 USD in orchestral libraries I use mostly free Musescore now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Submitted(+1)

Oh wow, I've heard about Musescore 4's new sound library but I didn't know it sounds this good when done right!! That's amazing. I started off in Musescore 2 (I use Sibelius for notation now), so this just shows how far they've come.

Timeless Dream: Your orchestral theme sounds very cinematic and has a very professional quality. Your inspirations have rubbed off on you on all the correct ways! The strings sound so good! You have some parts that sound very similar to portions of the live action Avatar the Last Airbender movie (while I’ll spare my opinions of the movie, I absolutely loved the soundtrack!). I thought your compositional flow felt very nice and natural.

First Travel: The fast-paced strings work well to keep momentum moving in this piece. I really like the break in the middle followed by the sweet waltz-like section which added a magical quality to the track.

Curse of Time: The dynamic contrast in this piece stuck out as a positive for me. The glockenspiel bells were reminiscent of a ticking clock. I can hear how Oliver is starting to have his delusions in this track.

Conciliation: The opening strings are so cinematic, you would do so well as a film composer! I love the slow gentle harp/guitar strums keeping time. I read after I listened to the piece about how you were planning for female vocals and while I would have been so stoked to hear that, when I listened to it the first time, I actually thought that the clarinet line was my favorite part of your entire OST. This is a very beautifully crafted piece.

Overall: This is professional-grade cinematic music here. Excellent job with all of it! Thank you so much for sharing!

Developer

Thank you very much for such an elaborate comment! I really appreciate it! :)

I plan on recording the Conciliation voice part in September-November (because now I am not under pressure to finish anything anymore and I have only shi**y microphone with me in abroad where I work until then :D ), so stay tuned! :)

OMG! I have no words to express how much I enjoyed listening to your work. Awesome job!!
