Description
Recently I visited UNKLE live perfomance, so I wanted to make some kind of trip hop. I made the music in Ableton Live Suite 11 using Kontakt 7 (mostly Electric Sunburst and Playbox instruments) and Massive X plugins.

This soundtrack is for an imaginary (for now?) game called “Tangled Threads” about a girl who lost in different timelines and has to exist in all of them in the same time.

- Tangled Threads is title / main menu theme
- Where Do I Run sounds when girl is moving through different dark futures
- Day by Day sounds when girl lives her usual & cosy but boring live

Theme:

Tick Tock...

How does it fit the theme?
Mostly through narative, but also each track has a rhythm that represents clock

Tangled Threads: This is a great ambient track that would work well for a menu theme. The guitar sounds really clean compared to the synths it overlies and sounds really nice.

Where Do I Run: The strings sound really nice, but don’t really have a sense of resolution which fits with the story you describe. Oooh I really like when the drums kick in after the guitars take over. This gives it a really dark but groovy feel. The lack of harmony in this section adds to the effect of darkness and unknown.

Day By Day: I really like the sound of what sounds like sticks/claves being rustled together. I really like the chill vibes when the trumpet enters! The pad and drums have me floating while listening to this. I like the ending with the waving pad fading off into the distance. These are three unique tracks that have some oomph to them, my favorites are the last two for sure! Great work and thank you for sharing!

Oh my, I like granular synths... Tangled Threads is my favourite out of three. Emotional and little harsh at the same time. Very nice :)

you've made some really beautiful songs!! after listening to "Tangled Threads", i was not expecting the distorted guitar you added to the other two, but it worked really well! the contrast between those guitars and the ambient pads is really stark, and serves the song well. good job friend :)))

Tangled Threads - Enjoyed this, the synths in the first minute or so reminded me of the more ambient music from The Cuts (a band). The strings are a nice touch. Also the pulsing in the background does well in giving the track momentum, plus I like when it’s complemented by those guitar plucks around the four minute mark.

Where Do I Run - I love the distortion on the strings, paired with the piano and the gentle pad in the background it creates a nice, ominous feel :) The way this track builds up is also very fitting and almost seems to mirror the girl’s emotions growing and swelling as she moves through dark futures, as you described. I love when the beat comes in (I’m a huge trip hop fan so that’s no surprise lol).

Day by Day - This one wastes absolutely no time in creeping me out, and the beat in it is even more amazing than the last! How did you make the beat sound so good? I’m seriously obsessed! This might be my favorite of the three, something about the chords and the main melody really draw me in.

All in all, this is a really nice ost and I love the atmosphere you’ve created! It’s both parts comforting and harsh (in a good way), and definitely gets the feel of your story across nicely :)

Thank you so much!

I can definitely see each track being used dynamically based on different sections of a stage or cutscene. The mix and overall quality were also high. Well done! Really like the part where the beat hits in "Where Do I Run".

All three of these have some really cool stuff going on, I like the first one a lot. It sounds like if raindrops played notes and it was really cool and original. Great stuff!

Super lovely sounds!! I love the steady development of each of the pieces as they go on. I think it fits very well with the description you’ve given for the scenario and I really enjoy a lot of scores that take this approach. Very cool tracks!

This is really great work! But you better create playlist on Soundcloud or YouTube, it would be much easier for the other participants to listen and vote.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, I should do it :)

Wow, this was really something else - in every positive way of that phrase. Really well composed and orchestrated tracks, with both variation and yet keeping something familiar and steady running throughout every track. This is really well done, deeply impressed!

Tangled Threads: a great opening track, this certainly sets the scene for the dramatic story you've laid out. The unusual rhythm in the synth, while pretty cool, does detract from the piece's atmospheric qualities because of how closely placed it sounds in the listener's ear. Lovely when the strings come in! There's lots of cool synths on display here.

Where Do I Run: Nothing like a IV-III-IV progression to portray melancholy! It's a beautiful opening to the track. This track is able to capture the atmospheric vibe much better for me: the strings still have a unique, pulsing rhythm (similar to the one the synths had in Tangled Threads) but without the harsh attack that pulled away from the other, slower instruments. Loved the entrance of the guitars, and nice drop. When you write a repeating chord progression with instrumentation changes at every repeat, it can become monotonous very quickly; hence why this drop was very important to keep the interest up.

Day By Day: what an exciting harmonic world we open in! While every piece thus far has been totally tonal, this one fully embraces atonality-- and I love it. I would have loved to see more of this sharp, angular, gritty harmony in the earlier pieces. Once the smaller, kit percussion enters around 1:30, this sounds like something I would totally study to-- much more of a chillhop vibe.

In all, I'm impressed by your ability to build up tension in a track-- and the very unique harmonies of Day By Day. Keep writing, and great job!

Impressive work really! The soundscape you managed to make create a very haunting yet peaceful atmosphere that really takes you somewhere else. The blend of synthetic and organic elements is also very well done, the strings in particular bring so much movement (and the rotatory and pitch bend effect in your last track is super creative). Great entry!

I mistook your name for tohomoko's and was so confused when I wasn't greeted by a chiptune! (Then I realized.) I think "Day by Day" is the track that really captures "tick tock" as a theme for me. Thanks for this.
