Description
Mixed genre, mostly melancholy.
~~~~~
The game ideal for this is a simple short game of you (the player) outrunning Death. When you eventually die, you're taken to the after life and the credits roll. Moving on knowing that you're dead now, but you can only remember the positives in life.
~~~~~
The first track is essentially "the intro" where you're reflecting on everything negative in life.
The second track symbolizes that Death is chasing you following their high octane music.
The last track is the afterlife, where you can only remember the positives.
~~~~~
FL Studio was used during the production of all three tracks.
Message from the artist:
When you eventually run out of time, fate strikes, and you're only left with only thinking about the positives.
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
Two of the songs have a sound that mimics a ticking clock. Where as when you "die" the soundtrack removes that ticking, symbolizing that time has run out.
Cool! I like how all of the tracks are based on one melody, that just gets played in different contexts.
I also really like your piano work - super smooth and serene. Very nice!
One thing i have to say is that this reversed ticking you used is mixed in a very weird way, and is kind of annoying. Doubling it and panning them to left and right could help make them not feel to in your face, and also lowering the volume a little too, obviously.
Overall - pretty good!
Last Stop: I love the “sad love song” vibe to this track. The piano is so emotional and has a really nice ring to it. I appreciate that the clock ticking doesn’t jolt my ears with every click. This is a pretty track!
They Are Here: This really heavy sound works well for a death chase track. The clocking ticking being really loud in this track is a reminder that time is almost out!
The End: This has such a spacey and relaxing vibe to it. I love the echoing return of the melody. The idea that you focus on the positives at the end is something I really like to think about. Great work also on the harmonies you chose for this. It sounds very sweet, but not necessarily in a “and they lived happily ever after” sort of way. These are three great pieces that are able to tell a full story between them. Great job and thank you for sharing!
I found the melodic instruments in the second track to be a bit flat. (mix wise I mean) But you did a good job with the last one, conveying a melancholic feeling through the song. Good effort!
I wasn't convinced by the first track (mainly because the percussion sound was a bit loud for my taste), but the other two tracks totally reconciled me with your OST. I really like the chords used on "The End"; in two chords and 5 seconds, you've managed to create an atmosphere that hooked me.
Really great piano piece in Last Stop! Super wistful and nostalgic. I like the idea of having the clock stop after your character dies too, nice way to integrate the theme. Great work!
The main melody is very lovely! I think you did a very successful job incorporating it in all of your tracks. The overall mood is great as well. It really works with the story you're telling (particularly that last track).
My only minor note would be that the volume of the percussion scrape is a bit loud in the mix (my headphones have kind of a harsh mid-section, so maybe that's part of it). Maybe you can play with mixing it a little lower or maybe having it come in loud and then dip in and out or something. The soundscape as a whole is very lovely though! Nice work!!
Last Stop: while beautiful, this track feels less negative and somber as it does melancholic and bittersweet in my opinion! I always caution against repeating the same 4 bars of music with different instruments added or removed-- perhaps a B section would have benefitted this piece? Either way, beautiful and certainly emotional music.
They Are Here: clock, or heartbeat? Taking the classic clock chime sound and putting it low in the bass is a cool touch. Again, the chipper guitar melody and general major quality of the chords doesn't really capture a sense of death or urgency-- more of a dancey quality? For next time, try experimenting with darker harmonies?
The End: Definitely my favorite of the three tracks. The low, dramatic piano progression is the most unique in the soundtrack. Again, I wish they wouldn't have repeated verbatim for the full length of the piece-- and there are times where the melody has clashing notes with the chords. Ignoring harmony, though, this track is pleasantly atmospheric and has a sense of rest to it.
Nice work, and keep writing!
Like the "minimalistic" style of the tracks, perhaps the first track mainly. I can easily see the kind of game You describe to work with this music, and I like the idea of continue the game "after life". Nice job!
