Description
The game we composed for would be called "Starbright", an adventure game with heavy themes of self discovery.
"Once Upon a Time" - Classical, Composed by NTA Music (AKA iHoist) using BBC Orchestra VSTs and vocal recording inside of Ableton. This track represents a grand start to an adventure.
"Nightfall" - Classical, Composed by NTA Music (AKA iHoist) using BBC Orchestra VSTs inside of Ableton. This track was meant to be similar to a classic lullaby. It represents the beginning of the night, and the serenity that comes with it.
"Starlight" - Downtempo Electronic, Composed by Quintivium using Spitfire Labs Soft Piano VST and synths sound designed from scratch inside of Ableton. This track is an experimental piece representing the serenity and self discovery that so often happens during long nights and conversations with the stars in the sky, and is a prelude to the extremely electronic nature of the final track.
"An Empty Sky" - Orchestral/Dubstep, Composed by Quintivium using Spitfire Labs VST, Orchestral Mallets by Ableton, Drone Lab by Ableton, and an ungodly amount of sound design using various techniques inside of Ableton. This track is a dark and heavy track, signifying a bossfight against a darkness that stole the stars. Bass heavy and electronic, signifying a battle against an otherworldly darkness.

Message from the artist:
Thanks for listening to this unconventional and experimental take on OST composing, we appreciate it! Also, Merry Christmas to those that celebrate it.

Theme:

Wish upon a star
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
This OST fits the theme by using both classical composition with an emphasis on lullabies, and glassy, reverb drenched sound design that makes the listener feel like they're in space.

AAWWW 'Once Upon a time' is so beautifully written and composed, there's so much story and wonderful build up! And then the contrast with the empty sky, absolute BOP
All of these pieces were great! <3

This was great!  The live vocals you recorded for that first track work really well, very much the star of the show for that particular piece.  I was very pleasantly surprised to hear what I heard in song 3 after the first two, as I read that it would be electronic in advance.  While it's still a pretty significant shift from the orchestral pieces, it feels like it's actually shifting, instead of just being abruptly thrown into something entirely different.  Very much gives off the vibes of something very normal and familiar suddenly morphing into something much less natural in front of your eyes.  I think that's honestly my biggest takeaway from your soundtrack - it gives off a very precise vibe of juxtaposing the natural against the unnatural, which I'm a big fan of.  great work overall!

This was great! I love the use of vocals in "Once Upon a Time" it fits the mood super well, with a grand yet intimate feel to it. I think the climax could have been a bit more impactful with a tad more modulation on the strings and the addition of a couple more textures. I think you guys did a fantastic job collaborating and the OST feels like a whole even with the different textures between the different tracks. It always has that epic feel to it but still feels grounded and personal which works very well with the story you're telling. This was amazing to listen to, great job!

Once Upon a Time: The build up in this track is great and the hit at 1:03 feels very epic, especially with the well-placed and well-balanced vocals. Even though the chord progression does not have much variation, you do a great job adding and subtracting elements that make it feel dynamic and make me want to listen to it over again!

Nightfall: This feels like such a hopeful track. I love that it builds up to such a big, yet cohesive sound with the glockenspiel, the viola, and the other instrument (I couldn’t decide if it was a dark oboe or something else like an English horn). The glockenspiel feels like stars sprinkling the night sky as day turns to night.

Starlight: Spitfire’s soft piano feels so mellow and other-worldly, which works so well here. I love the mallet instrument and the rising pattern with all the delay on it. The chords are so interesting and the uniqueness of the progression feels like discovery while listening which supports your intent.

An Empty Sky: This sounds like a pit and drumline performance which is super cool! I love the snare line accompanying the mallets early in the track. I am super impressed with all the sounds you were able to bring together so cohesively. The break at 4:42 feels so satisfying and is an excellent climax to such an epic track. Overall, great work teaming up for this jam and creating something that flows from one thing seamlessly into something else. Thank you both for sharing!

Starlight was super spacey feeling, I really enjoyed that. Each of this tracks is great quality though. Empty sky was a really creative mash up of the orchestral elements along with dubstep, I think that's my favorite. Awesome work and thank you for sharing!

Nice job! Great job overall, really awesome set off tracks. The ending of an empty sky really hits, great work!

I really like your instrumentation and orchestration, and I know everyone else is saying it but the sound design on An Empty Sky is crazy haha, hits you outta nowhere with that intensity in the best way possible. Great work to both of you!

Great collaboration! Opens up with some beautiful composition, and closes with that crazy sound design for the boss battle. Amazing work!

It's always cool to see collaborations on these jams, good job to both of you! The sound design in An Empty Sky is awesome

Very nice work with the voice recording. You went the extra mile and it really adds great atmosphere! I like the little motif played by that kalimba (?) in Nightfall, might make a catchy theme in its own track.

You know that (usually hilarious) game where you cut a piece of paper in half and then two people have to draw one half each of the same animal? Making a soundtrack as a team is very similar, and your pieces fit really well together!

Wow! Great job both of you. All of your tracks are great!

iHoist: I enjoyed listening to Nightfall, it was a very lovely little lullaby!

Quintivium: I was really impressed by an Empty Sky for multiple reasons, but mostly at how you kept it interesting for almost 6 minutes!

The two of you made an amazing work! I loved the opening theme while the second (lullaby like) had a really nice melody.

Starlight was interesting because of the sound design you put in it and was surprising me in a good way.

To finish, that boss battle theme is ballsy, because it really is different from the rest. But I think you managed to keep it in the same universe somehow and with two people working on it I think it wasn't granted for sure.

It works and it's very well done! I mean, I have no idea of the work needed on such sounds but that was effective.

Thanks a lot for sharing and giving a new taste to the stars :)

Thank you so much! Me and Quintivium put a lot of effort working on this soundtrack, and we’re really glad that others like you enjoy it! It was super fun finding ways to mix our different takes on orchestral production, but the stars aligned and we were able to pull through. Also, the version of An Empty Sky you listened to is actually an old version, but we aren’t able to switch it during the voting period, so…https://drive.google.com/file/d/1y9JfaaS0oX2zCATjtigLYcWgxgfZxrGv/view?usp=drivesdk Hope this feels more connected to the orchestral vibes of the rest of the track! And thank you for listening! D
