Description
Genre:
Ambient, funk, Rock, Synth

Type of Game:
A 2D Puzzle Adventure Platformer

Track Representation:
Besides the Menu and Game Over tracks, each song moves the Main Character from a nature and ambient area, to a colder more metallic area.

The Process and DAW:
I used Logic Pro

There are three levels that I envisioned for this soundtrack. A Forest, A Clock Tower, and a Factory.

Each level has three tracks:

The level music
The music before a boss
The boss music

The Process I used when making each track was to make sure each track felt connected in some way. One of the ways I did this was the reuse of instruments to anchor a singular theme that connects each song from the last.

Message from the artist:
Hi! My Name is Tommy, and This is "Rey and the Runaway Robot" I hope you like the tracks I've submitted to the Jam! Please feel free to give feedback as I'm always looking to improve! Thank you for listening!

Theme:

Runaway
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The Picture:
The Track "The Path of the Dark Forest" uses grounded and earthy sounds in the percussion, while the synth instruments are supposed to create a mystical atmosphere. Other songs later on uses synths in the same way.

Runaway:
The story I made up was that there was this little robot named Rocco, who ran away from a robot factory to warn humans of an impending danger.

Very soothing soundtrack. I especially like the nature vibe in the Forest tracks. Great use of nature sounds! Such a great variety of sceneries! That ticking clock theme was also really creative. Awesome use of panning there for that clock pendulum swinging L and R.  Very immersive soundtrack overall and really well finished, and such diversity between styles. I love the shredding in Supreme Android, and the Lullaby in the end was beautiful. I love lullabies! Thanks for sharing!

It's incredible how you finished so many finished tracks by the deadline- you even submitted them 1 day early! That's super impressive! On top of that, they are all connected in some way and I love the sfx! Gz!

Nice! It actually sounds like a video game soundtrack, I liked all the boss themes for each level

Incredible work! Congratulations!

I loved the description and drawings too! Amazing that you produced so many tracks in such a short span. Kudos!

Tracks 1-4 are well composed and great ambient music. That said, they each evoke a similar scene and mood. With that mood sustained for so long, it felt like a pretty sudden buildup of tension when track 5 quickly introduces drums and guitar. I could see that buildup being drawn out by making the previous track more tense.

I like that track 6 starts a little more intense. Rey and the Rocco have gotten some experience and things can't cool down now! I also loved the "tick tock" and panning percussion on beats 2 and 4 in the clock tower tracks. I imagine the fighting has caused some damage causing the clock to slow down in track 7. And I appreciated the sound effects and the Keeper's corny taunts in track 8 :)

The powertools and ratchets forming the beat in track 8 is really charming. I did feel this track was a short loop. The break in the middle is a helpful reprieve from the repetition. A suggestion would be to have more of these breaks.

Track 10 is creepy and forefoding, excellent!

I like track 11, particularly when the tempo cuts to half-time. Though, for a final boss battle, track 8 seems more intense by comparison—probably just a matter of instrument choice.

Track 12 offers an innocent tranquility, love the beep-y sounds. Harmony is restored between nature and the robots :)

Main Menu - Love the opening sound here. Very tranquil.

The Story Of The Lost - I really like the percussion in this one. Ambience and percussions complement eachother very naturally.

The Path Of The Dark Forest - Here I'm picturing our source image. Very nice. Love the use of Foley here. I like how I hear echos of the main menu theme. Really like the addition of the steel drum sounds and the little fluttering synth details.

The Forest Of Tall Trees - Nice tune. I see now what you mean by keeping groups of three tracks coherent. It's very nice how coherent they are. I can imagine that working well in a game. I would've appreciated a tiny bit more variation in the melody of this particular track. But maybe it was intended for a short part of the stage, I don't know.

The Protector Of The Forest - Guitars, cool. Seems like the pace is definitely increasing now.

The Clock Tower - Oh I like the addition of the clock, and I really like how you hardpanned the clock ticks. Very nice touch. The bells are also a nice touch.

The Gears Of The Tower - I feel like we're almost sinking into the clock somehow.

The Keeper Of The Clocks - Hahaha. Is the keeper insane? :D Cool tune! I really like all the drum fills. It's a great track, but I feel like the drums could've been a tad punchier here. Maybe it would've added a tiny bit of extra energy. Then again, it is a video game so maybe ignore that suggestion! Great track.

The Factory - I really like this one. The chord progression feels fresh and the mechanical sounds are great.

The Decommissioned Lab - Spooky. I like it. It feels like there's a mysterious element that's gonna lead up to something.

The Supreme Android - Cool tune! Sounds like we're up against a boss now!

The Soft Lullaby - Ending credits? A very nice send-off for the player to sit back, relax and watch the credits roll.

Overall, very impressive soundtrack. Especially considering the timeline. Also props for the cohesion between the tracks belonging to the same stage.

My favourite is probably "The Path Of The Dark Forest". I just really like how those steel-drum-esque sounds interact with the other sounds in your soundscape.

Excellent work man!

I love how wide Story of the Lost feels in the beginning. Huge fan of the dreamy instrument choices! And brilliant panning throughout, especially in Clock Tower. And those chord choices in The Factory are so nice!

This is sick dude! I'm loving the vibe on 'the protector of the forest'. Your drum programming is really solid!

You perfectly captured the theme! Instrument choice is spot on. The tracks generally feel a bit repetitive, but they sound great and would definitely fit the game you described. Nice job!

All these tracks are so soothinga and diverse! I especially love the Factory's theme. Reminds me of Skyward Sword's Lanayru Mining Facility! Keep up the good work :D

I can see why you're response to my project was so enthusiastic! We seem to have had similar ideas of dream-like, reverb heavy bells! I loved the whole project! I agree with David, you did such a great job keeping consistency throughout your tracks and made each level area feel unique but cohesive to the full soundtrack! I also love your use of electric guitar in the battle themes! Well done!

I'm first impressed by the effective use of percussions and sound design, just the right amount to give the right density to the music without overdoing it. It also contributes to vary the consistant motifs into different profiles of different phase of the game. I also loved how synth assures the coherence of the whole soundtrack with different musical profiles.

I'm also very impressed how diverse tracks you could produce in only 10 days, good job!

The idea of keeping consistency among tracks in a similar location is really brilliant, and you've done a good job of exploring that here. Loved the use of clock-ticking in the clock-tower series of tracks!

The Gears of the Tower is very haunting, I like that evil laugh...

The Keeper of the Clocks is fun! Really enjoyed this one.

The Factory also has a super-unique sound to it, and the rhythmic pattern really sounds like machinery in an assembly line.

Love the supreme android-- this feels right out of Undertale with its degree of intensity and super-catchy melody.

In all, while this soundtrack had a great sound and theme to it, I think it missed out on a chance to be really great because of the repetitive nature of each track. There was little to no variation on the harmony itself in each track: they all consisted of 2 or 4-chord loops, which may have had different instruments playing at different times, but were otherwise consistently the same for the whole track.

I am still really impressed with how far you were able to make it in just 10 days, twelve tracks is no easy feat, especially with the forest, clock, and factory sets all having great cohesion. Bravo!

"The Path of the Dark Forest" surprised me! I really like the ways it changes from slow and cautious to progressive, and back to slow and cautious. Great stuff! The forest songs, especially, have a great continuity of motif with them.
