A gritty portrayal of the cold logic of war and the fact that every man in a military force like the HDF are ultimately nothing more than numbers to be moved from one column to another upon death and then immediately replaced. I do feel more could have been done with the theme of the Writing Jam besides a passing mention of reflective lights, but in all honesty, I am also happy with what was done here. To put more into the theme would have run the danger of taking away from what you were actually writing about.

Grimdark, and a very good read

Boom Boom Boom Boom, they just got shelled to oblivion

that was a dark but some what humerous, and I enjoyed it, but it was not really 'reflective'

As a long-time guard player, this made me laugh.

Ditto with the other comments about the theme.  However, I do commend how the end can be read as hilarious or as very grimdark and bleak. The atmosphere of the story as a whole was strong especially with the choice of language  and formatting of the piece itself.

The inclusion of the 'reflective' shadow hunter didn't really use the theme in a meaningful way - I'm also not sure what the point of the story as a whole was, other than a ruthlessly grimdark 'sometimes you die for no reason'.

Not exactly fitting of the theme. But the ending was hilarious in a macabre way.

Great atmosphere and setting! The military "chatter" was very convincing.

Using the present tense was a good idea, but if you take that tack, you need to make sure and use that tense consistently. You switch between past and present tense frequently, which was a bit confusing at times.

Good twist at the end, though, and a good job at building a sense of horror and foreboding throughout!
