THE JAM
What is a media jam?
A media jam is a small media-creating competition based off of the idea of a game jam, in which you create a piece of media around a given theme over a short period of time.
For those that saw the word "competition" and felt a little bit of worry, no need to be stressed! The purpose of this jam is to encourage people to challenge themselves and be creative under time pressure. There are no ranking or awards for this jam, the only competition you have is yourself.
Also, don't feel pressured to spend ALL YOUR TIME WORKING ON THIS 24/7. A jam is a fun event designed to help grow creativity and not stress. You don't even have to make something over the whole 9 days, you could just work on your project for 1. Make sure to rest well and enjoy the ride.
Why is a media jam?
This idea came about after seeing all of the amazingly creative art, game and music people hanging out in the Objective Hub. Hopefully this event will help bring all of those creative minds together to make some cool things!
So what is a media?
As I said before, the idea of the media jam originally came about from game jams, however we wanted to make sure everyone can participate, so here are some other mediums that might be fun:
- A printable board game
- A song or a collection of songs
- An animation
- An audio drama
- A short story
- A piece of fanart
- A game design document
The medium can be practically anything that you want, as long as someone else would be able to see/use/hear it without having to download any external tools.
THEME: NIGHT AND DAY
Like most jams, the Objective Media Jam will be using a "theme". The purpose of the theme is to inspire your piece of media, however, it is not strictly required, so if you get stumped on the theme, you can still participate. Feel free to interpret the theme in any way that you like.
RULES
- No egregious NSFW
The Objective Media Jam has the same rules and restrictions for NSFW as the regular Objective Hub. Generally speaking, just be considerate of minors and those who aren't interested in seeing NSFW content and you should be fine.
- Use your own work
Joining up in teams or working solo are both highly encouraged, but plagiarising or using someone else's work without their consent is not on. The point of this jam is to inspire you to make something you're proud of, so there's no point if you don't make it yourself.
- Don't burn yourself out!
The goal of this jam is just to make something that you're happy with. If you want to spend one hour writing a poem, that's awesome! I love it! Please, do that and enjoy yourself. What you shouldn't do is make an awesome plan for an animatinon, hand draw 20 frames and then burn out and feel terrible. The goal is always just; make a cool thing, get inspired, and have a nice time without affecting your mental health, studies, job and so on.
