A browser Visual Novel made in HTML5.

Ooooh, this really has a super polished feel to it, it doesn’t look like something made within a few days!

Unsurprisingly, the sprite is the prettiest thing in there. The BG also really hits that sweet spot of the perfect balance between understated and detailed to be its own thing yet not distract from the character and story. GUI is a bit on the simple side, but it works for its purpose. The story itself is a rehash of a classical trope; it’s presented quite neatly, though it doesn’t hit any impressive or emotional points.

Overall, though there’s nothing that really stands out, the biggest advantage of this jam game is probably how polished the presentation is. As a first-time try at game dev and something done within only a few days, the final product quality is quite high. There’s been lots of experimental shots at visual novels that have some pretty wild premise or catch or mechanic, but either the art, writing, GUI, or some combination of those three is so severely lacking that it doesn’t make me want to play them at all. You could say I’m vanilla, I’d rather have something that I can spend time on from start to finish even if it’s only average rather than be baited by a hook that can’t actually carry a whole visual novel by itself and end up quitting halfway through.

Eep, I’m just rambling now, but anyway, good job, and keep up the good work! 💞💖

We love us a knight who knows how to clothes! 👌👌

This was quite fun. I liked the beat of the story. The gossiping ladies, the knight’s muttered slightly socio-political monologues, the strawberry girlie’s spillage, and the cool hostess who really knows how to choose her people—there’s actually quite a lot going on in here for a limited-asset production. I myself have a tendency for rambling dialogue, the slowest of burns, and expansive world-building, so I’m quite shocked and amazed how you packed everything into 1k words.

The BG is very pretty, and the knight is even prettier (gotta love purple-haired fellows 💜). I also love his squinting glares, haha.

That said, the GUI is a bit drab, and the line blocks are sometimes too long for the text that I had to read the rest of the line on the log (I was playing the browser version on the iPad), but overall, it doesn’t take too much from the experience. I kinda liked the fading effect of the text speed, you don’t have that in Ren’Py (unless there’s an update I don’t know about?? Lol, idk, I’m really not up to date on that…).

Anyway, two thumbs up 👍👍 to you, my friend, this was really cool.

Aaah, this one’s so pretty?!!! Character and BG art are 🔥🔥 The font’s a bit hard to read (lol but over half of that is probs bec I have eye problems…), but over all, it’s really good. I especially love the twist! I feel like this is the sort of thing that can go for a longer, dark, twisted yandere sort of story, but within the constraints of the jam, it’s used pretty well. Probably this idea to me would make the best impact if used in a long-manipulation and betrayal-at-discovery kind of sequence, but with a 1k word limit, it’s probably the better narrative choice that most of it is used in the setup rather than the climax and falling action. At least then, it’s just at the right timing for an open ending sort of interpretation.

Anyways, had a lot of fun with this one, thanks a lot, but I’m still! Low-key! Upset! That I didn’t! Get to! Eat their! Heart! 🤣
