Congrats on the win!

The obscured admosphere, varied enemies, and a dying person at the end of the level paint a bleak image of the world at large and constantly put players under pressure. This makes clearing a level feel satisfying.

The only solace the player has is the flashlight, and the ability to point in six directions opens up to unique level designs.

The light at the end of the final boss stage and seeing it staying motionless is the ultimate payoff,10/10.

Thank you for the great comment! It was so difficult to create a good atmosphere with the Nokia 3310 limitations. I'm glad it worked :) The boss level was added literally at the last couple of hours before the submission. Great to hear it was worth it!

Nice use of the flashlight.  It's not often that you can control the player and the flashlight. most of the time, both are connected. Where did you get your inspiration?

Developer

Thanks Dwursteisen! I initially wanted to use the mouse as the light direction, but the Nokia 3310 limitations made me rethink the control pattern. I really wanted to have independent player movement and light direction which allows enemies to come from different directions at the same time. Glad it turned out well!

Best game I've played so far in this code jam! Great idea, smooth implementation, captivating story and great level design! Impressed!

Thank you Metehan! I am planning to turn this into a fully fleshed out game at some point, I hope you will check it out when it's ready :)

Great game, love the concept! And since everybody else have already told you how great the controls are, let me instead compliment the amazing music, which will definitely be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Developer

Thank you Olaf! The music was definitely a last minute effort! I'm glad you enjoyed it and it did not turn out to be a total brain driller :D

This was really great, you clearly put a lot of work into it and I thought the mechanics were a very clever take on the jam's theme!

Developer

Thank you Samwalton9! The Nokia 3310 limitations were the main driver. I originally thought of having the light controlled by the mouse, I'm glad the mechanics turned out well.

Great game! Particularly like the idea to separate the movement and torch controls. Got quite tricky to progress as more enemies got introduced but really enjoyed it. Well done

Developer

Thanks a lot! Hope you check out the sequel :)

What a gem! Having the light with it limited range and angle was genius, and it's a nice touch both the small aura of light you have and the way the level lights up after a death to give you some hint when you die. Really well polished and put together. I did have the bird get stuck in it's introductive level (near the ladder) and I think the level where spiders was introduced was a bit too much; we got traps, spiders, and double fast monsters all brought on in the same level, and it was a bit overwhelming. That combined with the drop into the start of the level felt a touch mean to my estimation. Still, my current favorite of the jam. Looking forward to more of your stuff in the future!

Thank you Lost Gremlin! Your review means a lot and really motivates me to make more games. I agree with the difficulty level getting a bit exagerated in the later levels. I hope you managed to pass them and enjoy the twist ending :)

It's a good idea to separate the control of light from the movements. It feels nice. A very interesting way to upgrade the mechanics of freezing light thanks to different enemies. The detailed story also deserves praise.

Developer

Thank you SerafimaLoisen! I really wanted to use the mouse for the light direction, but it wouldn't fit with the nokia requirements. I'm glad the control split feels nice in the end.

Very nice atmosphere and story. Cool different enemies, and nice gameplay mechanic. I felt the game got too challenging about at the point of first traps. Good job!

Thanks a lot Vailhou! I'm really glad you enjoyed my game. The difficulty level is something I need to definatelly tweak. I hope you can try to get to the end to enjoy the twist ending :)

Yeah I made it to the end because I wanted to see where the story goes, and did not disappoint!
