Welcome to the No Video Jam, an audio game jam featuring accessible games without graphics!

Optional Themes

Here are some optional themes to help inspire and diversify your games. Feel free to use one, many, or none at all:

  • Abilities
  • Bad puns
  • Colors
  • Diplomacy
  • Growth
  • Not the hero
  • Smell, taste, or touch
  • Space or time as a resource
  • Utopia
  • Waves

Rules

  • Anyone can participate, whether you're solo or in a team.
  • Submissions must be blind-friendly, i.e. be an audio game or playable with only audio or a screen reader. The best way to test this is to turn your monitor off!
  • Despite the jam title, submissions can have graphics or an interface as long as that requirement is met.
  • Submissions should be mostly made during the jam period.
  • Please only use audio assets that you are legally permitted to use.
  • Please follow any attribution requirements for assets used.
  • Submissions must not contain discriminatory or hateful content.

Uploading a new build

New uploads aren't locked or explicitly disallowed. It's okay to upload a new build if it contains a critical hotfix. At your discretion, please be respectful of other jam participants who finished their games before the deadline. A way to be transparent is to publish a list of your changes. Once the jam is over, please continue to support and improve your games however you like.

Judging

Submissions will be judged by the public based on the following criteria:

  • Accessibility. Is it easy to operate and perceive?
  • Fun. Is it enjoyable?
  • Originality. Has it been done before?
  • Sound. Is the sound design well executed?

Voting lasts for one week after submissions close. The only prize is karma!

Tips

Is this your first game jam? Here are some helpful tips for success:

  • Know your tools. You'll have more time to build your game when you're familiar with how they work.
  • Reduce your scope. Try to build a short playable game as early as possible, then spend the rest of the jam polishing it.
  • Take care of yourself. Don't forget to eat, sleep, and take plenty of breaks.
  • Perfect is the enemy of progress. You can update your game with new features or content after voting ends.
