4/5 Fun, 3/5 Balance, 4/5 uniqueness, 3/5 theme.

I really enjoy this. Sorry I don't have a lot of time to write a big writeup.

My only complaint personally is that the balance seems a little off. Some timewalls are a bit too long for my taste. (And I don't mean the "literal" timewalls, but just parts of the game where you sit there for 1-3 minutes waiting.

Those mostly went away but after Iridium they came back again :(

Maybe I just don't get it, but I can't see a  decent way through the 2nd wall, it's just too much for me. Otherwise, the start was fairly fun and engaging,. Definitely feels too much like Resource Starve though

Developer (1 edit)

You need to farm a decent amount of time speed before attempting the second timewall. The place after the second timewall was also where I planned to start making it deviate more heavily from resource starve but I unfortunately ended up not having enough time to finish it and just kind of set up a few mechanic ideas and rushed an ending using them.

This was fun. The start could really use a build queue of 2+, as upgrading / waiting 30 seconds / upgrading gets really tedious. It picks up quickly after the first timewall, though.

Only good game this Jam.

Fun: 5/5. CLEANSED games are always a blast.

Balance: 4/5, i don't like how long you have to wait for buildings.

Uniqueness:3/5, simply because theres already cleansed AND the other cleansed game you made for the previous game jam

Theme: 4/5. I like how it makes usage of time speeding up.

This game is honestly a great contender for "bad time" in my list

what are cleansed games exactly?

Developer

Go look in the "Credits" tab. You can find yhvr's game cleansed which inspired my last two jam games.

The first one, cassiopeia/resource starve, kept most of the mechanics but replaced the original exploration mechanic with buildings and added a bunch of other interesting stuff. It's not great though since it's kind of laggy and doesn't deviate too much from the original gameplay and was kind of meant as an exercise to collaborate with yhvr to make Cleansed 2 (which never happened)

This is the second attempt which was basically the opposite of cassiopeia, keeping nothing except the 2D map and the "@" player icon. I guess if you stretch it you can say that the time walls could be roughly matched to clearing darknesses in the original game, but other than that most of this game's mechanics were ripped off of cassiopeia (notably the building mechanics)

Fun:5/5. My favorite game from this jam,and one of my favorite games in a long time. The reason i loved it so much is because it reminded me of factory styled games  (aka Sandbox Tycoons) such as Factorio or Miners Haven, which i would grind sandbox tycoons like MH all the time. I wish more developers would make games like this and step out of the average style of incrementals like AD or OM.

Balance:4/5. Id put 5/5 if it wasnt for the cooldowns between upgrading buildings,i dont see how that would improve the game, its so annoying. I suggest you decrease the time to be consistently 10s.

Uniqueness:5/5. Admit it,you dont see incrementals in this style often. Not only is it unique based on how it plays out,but also how it looks. Sure,Mindustry looks similar but its not like there can only be one game thats in this style. Besides,Factorio did it first.

Theme:3/5. As good as this game is,theres a major flaw, and thats the actual theme. The only crumb of the aspect of time there is is the cooldown between upgrading the buildings, and i already went over how bad it is. I only reached 1e6 coins and 1000 essence so i wouldnt know (theres also the timewalls,i guess that counts? i bumped it to 3/5 from 2/5 for that). Let me know if there are any more time themed stuff in the game.

I hope more people see how good this game is,and i hope this game gets more updates.

Developer

There's a few time speeding mechanics later on which makes the building time and upgrading time make more sense.

I will admit the start is a bit slow, I'll look to increasing the queue size to 2 early game as well as bumping up the initial gold mine production. Thanks for your feedback

best game at least for me

I recognize this style from the Summer incremental game jam, and while this one was fun and interesting, it definitely feels a little derivative compared to Resource Starve. The ability to move around and build gives a lot of freedom to the usually more linear incremental genre.

I had some performance issues on Firefox, especially once the building count starts getting up there.

Developer(+1)

Thanks. I'll look into the performance of the game on Firefox when I have the time.

Developer(+1)

I didn't manage to get a firefox-specific fix, but I have managed to fix what could've been causing lag for large building counts in general.

I suspect a large part of what might be causing lag on firefox is the rendering of structures, considering the large discrepancy in performance with certain canvas methods across chromium-based browsers and other browsers.

I unfortunately won't be able to fix these caveats without largely reworking how the rendering system works. If I really wanted to I can redo the rendering system from the ground up, but that likely won't solve a lot of problems.

Played this one until I unlocked the full map but not those  final upgrades. Definitely kept my interest.

The time manipulation elements were of course, the most interesting parts of the game. In a lot of similar games, usually it's just more complexity added to the economy. But with this game, the obelisk acts on a different vector which is time. Time can affect building speeds so it's not just a direct supplier of $ to the player. Great way to set up your economy!

Overall the game has good variety of systems that ebb and flow between each other to keep the variety going. You might switch from upgrading buildings to building new ones to switching over to obelisk upgrades to saving up for a grand upgrade that will change your next direction. This variety was very important and definitely gives you a Factorio-lite feeling.

Good.

neat lil time waster, bit active though, liking the game so far

Fantastic game! Definitely the most fun of the ones I’ve played thus far! Tons of content, that’s very well balanced, with awesome time altering mechanics. Love your art style you’ve continued to improve, moving to images but keeping the nostalgic @ sign for the player - a lovely nod to your previous game, CLEANSED, and rogue!

I’d honestly love to see even more content in this game! It’s a really solid foundation.
