Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous.

  • Gameplay: I can move! Great job for a first game, and good job incorporating music. Creativity & Innovation: This is a bit of an N/A form me. It's a walking sim, and I don't see the narrative connection to building connections from the dialogue present. Theme Adherence: As a walking sim, the dialogue and setting have a massive impact on theme resonance and communication with the audience. This one just seems like you are stealing folks for an undisclosed reason. Playability & User Experience: Game runs smooth, the 2nd area transition felt delayed/confusing as I had to drop off the cliff, instead of pass through the archway. Art and Design: Fun low poly environment. Clear and communicative. Overall Fun Factor: As a walking sim, the fun and engagement is directly connected to your narrative and the narrative elements that are incorporated into the walking experience through the environment and character movements that reinforce/create a dialogue with the script. As an overall comment: Great first time making a thing!

Hey team!

I'm so sorry for the late feedback!

Some things to consider:

- Love the art! I would suggest adding a background and possibly some lighting to make the world feel more immersive, but for a short game jam, you guys did great!

- You guys did a great job of creating mechanics for tethered characters. The only thing I would suggest would be making the "throw" key bind something other than the spacebar.

- I love the idea of waking the grandpa up, but I don't know if it really added a lot to the game. Perhaps it would be cool if you could use the environment to wake him up as opposed to just clapping? There were a few times too where I would accidentally leave the backpack, and would constantly have to wake him up, so maybe implementing a cooldown system would be good too!

- I think you guys have a pretty solid game here, but it would greatly benefit from some polish. There were a few times where the character would get stuck and the only way to continue would be restarting the level. It's great that you included that as an option, but I think most of the occasions where the player gets stuck were the result of level design issues (getting stuck didn't seem intentional).

Overall, great job on your project! You did a fantastic job for a such a short period of time, and the tethering mechanic is really impressive!

Jam Judge

Heyo, thank you for pointing out that the feedback is wrong.  I must have hit ctrl:v instead of ctrl:c at one point. I actually have a lot I want to provide, but am unable to do so until very late tonight or tomorrow, and apologize for the delay.

Very cool game to feel yourself stupid. Seriously, i liked it though i tried hard to get through second level but didn't manage it. The idea and realization are pretty nice, the characters seem cute together, also music is pleasent (the sounds of grandfather is so funny, and i like it), but i think gameplay isn't quite finished and that makes game difficult to play (well, that's okay, it's a jam after all), cause there are many moments when you have to restart the level because you're stuck (i guess that if grandfather could pull you closer to him it would be really handy at these moments)

Anyway, good job, guys
