Questions about the jam

Hi,
I'm looking really forward to this jam since narrative design is my passion, but the overview wasn't clear on a few things. I was hoping you could answer some questions.

1. Is this a solo jam or can we form teams? If we can form teams, is there a size limit?

2. Can we use unreal, unity, twine, or whatever we want, or is there limitation of the engine?

3. Is there a discord channel?

4. Where will the theme be announced? Is it on the jam overview page, discord, or some other means? If there is no theme, is there any criteria we have to meet for the story or any guiding principal?

5. Will the judges have visual studios with C++ and C#? I've run into issues when I package my Unreal games and the people trying to play it don't have the dependencies installed, so I want to confirm it won't be an issue.

Thanks so much! I appreciate the help, great questions.

1) This jam is for solo or group submissions, there will be a question when you submit your work that asks if you worked on this solo or in a group. There's no size limit :D

2) No engine limitation, there are creators in this jam with all sorts of backgrounds, and we wouldn't want to limit you to specific mediums. We want to see your best story telling abilities on display!

3) There is no discord channel (would you like one? Shall I set one up?)

4) There is no theme, but the guide lines are on the itch page. They are:

  • Consider your story narrative, your main plot
  • Consider how the environment you've created in your game upholds your story
  • Think about the mechanics your game uses, and how they push the story forward.
  • If your game has multiple characters consider their individual narratives, and how they contribute to the overall plot
  • Does your story flow? Or are there areas where the different elements of your game clash and halt the story?
  • Try to keep your submission as PG as possible, with strictly no pornographic content.

The point of these rules is to allow you as much freedom as possible when designing your game, so that you can work as closely to your strengths as possible. This is a technical jam as much as it is a creative one, and you'll be judged on your narrative execution in whatever format you choose. There are 6 judges on the panel so that the submitters can know we are dedicated to as fair and open a  judging panel as we can get to.

5) If there are any issues opening and playing your game, I assure you we will reach out and work it out, but I'm quite certain it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks so much for your questions, I hope this helped, if you have any issues at all with your question (4) on guiding principles, comment below and I know we'll be able to sort some bedrock.
