Team Finding

Making a game all by yourself can be a daunting task. Joining a team helps make the workload manageable and connects you with other people who share the same interests. If you're looking to team up with other people for this jam, here's the place to do it!

Looking to create a team for your game concept? Post a pitch!

Say you've got a great idea for a game but you need some help accomplishing it. Here's your chance to pitch your idea to other jammers! Bear in mind that the bullets below are not rules but suggestions for what to include in your post in case you're not sure where to start. If you are someone looking to join a team, skip to the section below.

  • Introduce yourself! Include any basic information you wish for people to know. I.e., Name, timezone, pronouns, etc. Or go all out and give your entire life philosophy; it's up to you!
  • Your game concept! It doesn't have to be fully thought out and realized— your team is there to help you flesh out ideas. However, it's best to have a working idea of your game ideas and goals so it's easier to find people to fulfill the roles you need. Images may help get your ideas across, so don't be afraid to use them!
  • What skills you have/roles you need filled. Say you know how to code, but need art assets, or vice versa. This is where you describe what kind of skills you have and need so others can apply to be a part of your team. Include stuff you know how to do, kind of know how to do, and are willing to learn.  Also include engines or programs (for any use, be it art, music, game dev, animation, etc) and languages you are familiar with or specifically require.
  • Preferred method of contact. Communication is one of the most important things in a team, so having a clearly established method of correspondence in your post is essential. We suggest creating a group discord server for ease of organization, but do whatever works best for you.
  • Other stuff! Anything else you need to let others know, or anything you'd like to say! If you need ideas, consider communication styles, schedules, non-game goals, level of polish, etc.

Looking to join a team? Reply to a pitch!

Below each post, there is a small reply button that looks like this.

If you see a pitch that interests you, hit reply and follow up with your skillsets, maybe a portfolio, programs and tools you're familiar with, and contact information. It's that simple!

Team Tips & Tricks

  • Communication is key! If you have concerns, frustrations, stress, other commitments, it is your responsibility to inform your team so they can help resolve the issue or accommodate. Most of these tips can probably be summarized as communication.
  • Can't do your part? Tell your team. If you have real life obligations, let your team members know so they can either lessen your work load or find someone else to help out.
  • Stay focused! Working together can be fun, but make sure you get things done! This is especially tricky for teams who know eachother well; sometimes the camaraderie can be a distraction.
  • Set clear, manageable goals. This helps everyone stay on the same page and facilitates productivity.
  • Dealing with stress/illness? Putting this one here for myself since I have this issue as well. If you have a history of health problems, whether it is physical or mental, please be up front about it. No one will blame you for needing to take it easy!
  • Use productivity apps/ file sharing sites! There's a plethora of resources for effective team/file management. Google Drive, Dropbox, Slack, and Trello are just a few of them. A list will soon be added here for anyone who wants to give them a whirl.
  • Again: file sharing. Mentioned in the point above, but important enough to warrant its own point. Using a file sharing service like Dropbox enables everyone to work on the same things at the same time as well as allow real-time updates. An artist can stick assets into a shared folder, thus allowing the programmer to instantly access it. Making changes is much easier too. Highly recommend teams do this!
  • Frustrated with your group? Nothing is perfect. Even with people you get along with, you're bound to have conflict. Keep a cool head and remember: even terrible game jam experiences have value. Be willing to carry on and don't give up!

Hey there. I'm MKcyborg (Eastern American time zone, he/him,) and I'm looking to join in on a team. Most of my skills are in writing, including a degree from Southern New Hampshire University, but I have a bit of experience in game/level design and making art via Piskel. You can contact me on Discord (MKcyborg#9527.)

Accept the friend request.

Oops, sorry about rejecting the request. I didn't see this post and assumed someone random was sending me a request. Anyway, what kind of skills do you have? I found two people who can do programming.

hi MKcyborg

I send a discord friend request. im adambuchanan#9317.

im a music composer with sound design expereince. id love to collaborate, if not this time than on the next game. :)

We've actually got all the people we need. Thanks anyway.

Hello, I'm Isonzo! I'm interested in joining a team. I make make music and have experience working with music, though I have not done so for a videogame yet. I've also learnt to program somewhat in Python, as well as using Godot for making rudimentary 2d prototypes. You can contact me on Discord (Isonzo#8015). I look forward to working with other people!

If I had to choose a game concept, it would probably be a post-apocalyptic delivery game, where you would have to make packages reach their destination in time while avoiding all the dangers and horrors that roam the land.

I would like to join! I can provide pixel art!

Great! I can't draw very well so that's a welcome addition!

Hey! If is possible, I would like to join. I can program,  I'm currently use godot!

I would like to join too. I can help with programming

I's like to join as well. I have a little experience with writing and i also make weird electronic music. My discord is person ig#5136 if you're interested!

I'm now learning godot in my free time. If I can, I would like to join u. Already sent friend request.

Hello hello!

I'm Talia, she/her, primarily a writer, designer and producer.

For this jam I'm going to make a vertical slice of Isekai/Online, a single player RPG about the MC's transgender awakening within the world of her favorite MMO as she and her raiding party struggle to survive the milleu, the (suddenly sentient) NPCs, and the other half a million gamers (and Gamers) transported along with her.  This is a concept I've been working on preproduction for but haven't actually done any production work for.

This is the MC Deedee (art by PastelDeity), roughly two minutes after getting isekai'd, five seconds after throwing an owlbear through a tree, and one instant after she went "holy shit i'm a girl this rules".  She can build into almost any role, fitting for a story about identity.

Alesha (avatar: Herezhade; user: Jefferson), born paladin, the elegant party tank who just wants to go home to her loving family and will fight like hell to get back.

Sekhmet Clanclan nee Juliette Wang - in game an offensive support Thief, she's Deedee's roommate IRL who worked at the same shitty convenience store with her and thinks of the gameworld as a possible escape from that life.

Avatar Hikaru Aosora (user Akira Tsukuda),  a programmer by day and raider by night who is beginning to regret playing a neotenic ageless potato Evoker, even if the little guy is a tactical nuke on the field; he's fascinated with the underpinnings of the virtual world and seeks to understand it.

Ace Striker is the avatar of a transgender pro Twitch streamer (formerly a soccer player before she took a player to the knee), who unfortunately has no idea how to actually play as a pure DPS Warrior and who never intended to stick with the game longer than her free 14 days.

All concept art with the artist not otherwise listed is by Emma Glaze (bedsafely on Twitter).

Presently I'm using RPGMaker MV for it, mostly because I have it and it produces decent art for the purpose: and doing one boss fight, one level,  and one major scene; if I complete that early I'll expand from there backwards to the beginning of the game, and from there forwards to the end.  I am deliberately trying for a low-scope project focusing on characterization and making these character kits work, which I'm pretty sure I can do on my own.

That said, if anyone is interested in doing music, voice acting, spritework, coding or illustration for it please PM me!  I would like for this game to be as polished as possible once I get that work out and having an original soundtrack and better art than I can make in the MV character generator would be amazing.  I would like for this to be a grid-based tactical game but am currently working from the assumption that this is not feasible in MV, but if a programmer would like to join me and prove me wrong that would be incredible!

Hello Talia, I'm Bibi and primarily here as a musician, if you are still looking for music for your game I would like to offer my own abilities. I own FL studio so I can thankfully produce good quality music, and I have created music for a few months so far, I am new to music and definitely video game making, but I like your idea and want to try and support.

I have a Soundcloud, if you want to see if my type of music can work with your game, most of it is with electronic influence.

Heyhey Bibi!

So I can definitely use your style of music after hearing your stuff on Soundcloud.  There are two kinds of music I'm looking for in this game:  More melodic, classical JRPG stuff (possibly in SNES soundfonts), and stuff for when stuff gets glitched to Hell.  You can definitely do the latter; curious to see you try the former!

(2 edits)

Oh, alright then! I'll definitely start looking to see what I can do. Do you have a Discord so we can talk outside of itch.io? I'm Bibichu#7580.

Also, it seems our times might be a bit different, as it is currently night right now for me, so I'll just make a short song, likely some sort of title music to show in a day or two when I'm awake to try and do something that sounds a bit like SNES.

Submitted

I really should be asleep myself.  I'm Talia "Elli" B#4698 on discord, including spaces and punctuation.  Let's talk tomorrow: I'm on Pacific time.

Alright, sent a friend request, just tell me when you're ready to talk!

(3 edits)

I can join as a programmer, im pretty new  to Unity but I program a lot in a lot of languages mostly c# and python, I am good at composing classical music but I think here this is useless.

I guess you( talia and bibi) are from israel, and I too, then it will be nice to work in Hebrew.馃榿

My discord is Shainy_oreng#8929

Sadly, I'm an American jew by way of Russia and my Hebrew is almost but not quite nonexistent.

I may want to talk to you after the game jam about making the game I ACTUALLY want to make in this setting.  Until then how's your Java?  MV scripts are in Java and that might be useful.

im ok in Java but it feels unnatural for me to code a lot in Java because I am used to c#, i prefer not to work in java.

P.s. is there more israeli name then talia elli???

Hey! If you're still looking for illustrators/spritework, I'm a digital artist willing to try lending a hand! I can send you some artworks I've done if you hmu on discord (null #0152) since I don't really post my work online, though I've been meaning to.

Submitted

Discord friending sent, will hit you up after work!

Hi Talia, I love your concept! I'm a programmer, so if you're still looking for extra hands on the implementation I'd be happy to help. I've developed some games in Unity/C# and JS, but I do have experience with Java so I can work with that too.

I'm benbjamin123#5230 on discord, if you want to talk more over there!

Submitted

Let's talk; there's some esoteric stuff I'd want to implement but otherwise wouldn't be able to.

I love the concept! (and art!).  I took first semester classes in Fortran and Pascal, and I'm now starting to learn Python and another language, perhaps one that will be useful to you.  I can get up to speed in a new language quickly.  Time is short at this point, but I may be able to assist you or another programmer in the project.  I was also good in high school advanced math, if that helps, and I can help with grammar and spelling in the game, as well, if needed.  You probably have a full team by now, but I'm still going to follow you and this project.  I look forward to seeing the finished work. :)

Submitted

Well now I gotta continue.  (But this was from the LAST Game Jam, not the current one...)

The old devteam actually went off to do their own thing, so we might want to talk later.

Oops!  Sorry for the mistake.  In that case, do you want to start work on this for a later game jam?  I've never made a game before (except 'Life', a classic programming exercise), but I love to learn and would love to contribute in any way I can.

Hello Taila,

I'm Zeek(he/him) i am Phaser.js game developer (new to this), i have made 4 games so far and i like to contribute in your project as a programmer or voice actor.

i like your game theme, since i like Isekai animes and MMO RPGs.

what program do you use?

you are so talented and i鈥檓 happy about making a drawing program in electron, (not a big electron fan because of past experiences)

Submitted(+1)

Hello, first of all, thank you! What is electron, Im not familiar. However, I already have a team for this jam but thanks for showing interest on my art!

Its basically making Desktop native apps with HTML and stuff

Hey there, I'm looking to join this Jam as my first. I'm a seasoned programmer who is an expert in many languages, but I'm new to game development. I've made some small things by myself in Monogame, Godot, and Unity with free assets. I'd prefer Unity to develop games from now on, and I'm looking to collaborate with someone like you to try and make a game as there's nothing like working together to really learn something. This would be my first game jam, although I've attended plenty of hackathons before just not for game development.

I'm actually interested in making a game reminiscent of the current times, at least in the US. Perhaps a top down adventure or platformer starring Frederick Douglas and other emancipation heroes, like Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman.

DM me if you would like to chat a bit about it. I'm in EST too, so only 1 hour behind you, so our time zones would work.

Hello! I already have a team for this jam! But thank you for your reply! My discord is Sasha#4710 if you want to talk and show my your stuff, maybe we could work together in the future!

Hi! May I get your Discord for future jams?

Or you can just add me: Acropolise#0612

I really like your works :)

May I offer this?  I think the word you want above is 'literally' (exactly), not 'literary' (about stories). :)

Also, I've learned a lot from Google Translate, if that helps, and even from typing 'Define:', followed by a word, in the search box, for spelling.

Please don't be offended for my unasked for advice.  I hope it will be helpful.  :)

Hey all!

I'm a Software Engineer looking to join my first game jam.

Experience

I'm a recent college grad with a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering. Most of my project experience has been in full-stack web and mobile dev, but I did take a class on game programming so I understand the basic underlying structure of graphics/game physics. I've just started learning Unity, Godot, and SDL, so it'd be cool to link up with someone with more game dev experience - I'm a quick learner and a hard worker! :)

Technical Skills

Languages: C++, C#, Python, JavaScript

Game Engines (Learning)Unity, Godot

Other: Git, Linux, learning whatever is needed to make something work ;)

Other Skills

  • I'm a musician (percussionist) that's been playing for ~14 years. I mainly teach these days, and haven't done much writing, but I know enough theory to be of use if needed!
  • I did various business plan/innovation competitions in school, and generally have good communication skills and an ability to structure a project.
  • Also starting to try my hand at pixel art, but I'm still learning so don't expect much. :b

I guess my dream team would be another developer, a musician, and an artist, but I'm not picky! Just looking for some cool people to learn and jam with. :)

I'm in PST time and am generally responsive between 10am-10pm.

Submitted

Hi, im a long time music composer with no game dev experience. Id love to join a team. Thanks to my music experience i'd also be keen to give some sound design ago.

I will say this disclaimer, this is my first Jam and I'm pretty concerned. haha!

Hello, CaptainKitten

I am a computer science student who just finished my sophomore year of college. I have a limited degree of experience with a large range of languages and tools. I am primarily looking for projects which need composing and sound design work. Although, If the project needs another programmer, I can do that fairly well depending on the language and engine. I have been making really small video games and modding games I like since I was twelve. But most of them have been made over month or longer periods or were extremely simple. Most of my programming experience is with making UI and menus or my attempts to make my own game engine in various languages. I have participated in the IEEE extreme 24 hour programming competition with my universities competitive programming team, and I am a teammember.

Technical Skills:

Languages: Java, Python, javascript(learning), C++

Game Engines: RPG Maker,  Unity(learning), Pygame

Other: Audio Engineering, Mixing, Sound design

Other Skills:

I am a musician who has been playing for over 7 Years. I have had formal training in voice and piano. But I also know how to play the Ukulele to a lesser level. I am also a novice organist. But that likely won't help with any games I work with because getting permission to use and record an organ would take at least 3 weeks because I am not currently in the town with the organ I usually have access to. Although, if you really want me to, I can try to get access to one. Most of my compositions are chiptune, EDM, or digital brass songs. Although, I also have a few Ukulele songs. I can create new digital compositions in about 3-8 hours. If I need to record instruments it will likely add an extra day to the time it takes me to compose and produce a new song. I have been doing live audio work for 6 years and the job I work during the school semester is in that field. I also have very limited portrait art skills. I can also make okay looking non-organic digital art composed of simple shapes.  But I don't know how likely I would be to use either of those and would prefer to be on a team with an actually good artist. I would rather spend jam time on audio, music, or programming work. I have several ideas for projects, but I am not particularly attached to any of them. I also have a bit of experience in doing non-professional editing for hobbiest novels. I have 6 separate friends who wanted to get started writing novels who I helped write one. Although, I am by no means an expert in the field of writing, but I can write a simple story if it would complement our game project.

Project Ideas/pitches:

1. A Tetris variant based on Alchemy. The core game play loop has three elements. Choosing ingredients, Tetris based crafting, and selling your potions. There would be a decent selection of items which have a set of Tetris block shapes and colors predetermined. They would also have different costs. Then you have to try to maximize the potion properties you like and minimize the bad ones. So managing how much of a particular color you have at once is important. You can do this by having as much of the same color as possible when clearing a row if you want to make an aspect stronger. While if you want to diminish, one try to set up your rows in a way where the proportions of the colors are more mixed when clearing that color. Some ingredients or potions might let you do things like clear out a portion of the pieces in a certain area without letting them affect the potion properties. So you can get rid of blocks of bad colors. Then the quality of the properties affects the sell price. And if you hit a certain threshold the item can gain abilities that will apply if you try to use it when crafting another potion. The ideal engine I see for this game is unity as a 2d game. But I could also see it being able to be made in pygame. Or, I guess we could make it in JavaScript and make an engine based on the PIXI libraries. This game likely won't need a particularly complicated engine. For this project, I would definitely be able to tackle sound, music, and programming aspects. The art demands would be within my skill level, but I am not sure if I would have the time to do art and implement any code.

2. An eastern fantasy turn-based time management simulator with a high dificulty level about dreams and whether we allow ourself to give up on them. The game would have a rather short play through time and would be intended to take multiple attempts to get a winning ending. Potentially, it could also have a turn based combat system that could be used to get more resources from a dungeon if time allowed. Muic would play an important role in communicating the protagonists' mood at a particular moment. The main character is an orphan who is stuck in a hierarchical cult dedicated to magic. However, it is also highly competitive. So the main character has to find things to do to make the money they need to pay for lessons to become the kind of person they want to be. When the character fails at something, they get discouraged, so you have to find ways to get their morale/dream up. Morale is very easy to lose and will likely result in many game overs for the player. When your morale hits 0 then the game ends and you get a unique ending message based on what activities you did the most. If you do an activity enough times, the game also ends, but you get a more positive ending about finding your passion in that field and being fairly successful depending on the dream level you were at if you hit it. Most game actions would take a week and there would be random events that influence how well you do. The narrative would overall be about a person with big hopes and dreams who struggle to hold onto them. But when you get good enough at the game they actually get to fulfill their dreams. I think the easiest engine to make this in would be one of the RPG makers. But it could probably also be made in unity or pygame.

I already sent you a friend request on discord. I am HighTyrol3#0708 I am in the CST time zone and available from 9 am to 9 pm my time. Which  would be 7 am to 7 pm in your time zone. But if necessary to make the project work, I can shift my time of availability by changing when I wake up and go to bed. I should be able to work on the project for a maximum of 10 hours in a day unless we end up really close to finishing and the jam is almost over then I can work 16 hours straight if needed. But I would prefer to not end up in that situation in the first place. I expect to spend an average of 5 hours a day on the project including weekends into my calculations, although It might end up more if I think the project really needs it.

Greetings, all! I'm primarily an artist that has worked in sprites and some limited 3D work. I'd like to join a team that could benefit from those skills! The games I've worked on are available in my profile!

I'm a music composer looking to break into the game industry. id love to join a team.

Skills:
Music composition:
Ive played and composed music for the vast majority of my 36 years on Earth.  Ive also been a visual artist my whole life, so I have a medium level knowledge of graphic design and use Gimp. I have a pretty good computer system and a lot of professional software: EAST WEST, WAVES, IK MULTIMEDIA etc.
Sound design:
I imagine id be a good sound designer also. Ive certainly written a lot of ambient weird music in my day. I have a bunch of sound design sample on my system and could certain make up some with instruments if needed.

Game dev Experience:
I'm totally green. I have a basic working understanding of fmod and Wwise, but ive never actually worked on anything but the Fmod/Wwise tutorials. but i'm also super keen and excited to learn and try.

Hello Keen. This would be a great foundation for a team. In the past I have made a virtual board game, a platformer demo, and a handful of experimental prototypes. I am not sure what I would like to make in the future, that is partly the reason why I joined this game jam. As for music, it will really depend on the type of game we decide on making.

Also, I tried to make a chat room in discord, but I am kind of new to it as well, so I was not able to figure it out. My user name is Gravity_Mx#1780 if you know how to do it.

Hi IMEWHO,

Im a newbie also. Im keen to collaborate with people. I'm a music composer with some sound design experience.

Skills: Music composition: Ive played and composed music for the vast majority of my 36 years on Earth.  Ive also been a visual artist my whole life, so I have a medium level knowledge of graphic design and use Gimp. I have a pretty good computer system and a lot of professional software: EAST WEST, WAVES, IK MULTIMEDIA etc.  Sound design: I imagine id be a good sound designer also. Ive certainly written a lot of ambient weird music in my day. I have a bunch of sound design sample on my system and could certain make up some with instruments if needed.

Game dev Experience: I'm totally green. I have a basic working understanding of fmod and Wwise, but ive never actually worked on anything but the Fmod/Wwise tutorials. but i'm also super keen and excited to learn and try.

Hey guys, my name's Tim!

I'm looking to join a team as a programmer for my first game jam!

I am currently an electrical engineering student and have a fair amount of programming and physics knowledge. I am confident in Unity and have made a few (albiet small scale / personal) games but can program in any language (that's documented lol) and can work with a team already using a different engine.

My time zone is AEST [GMT+10]. I don't have any major ideas for a game but I would honestly love to work on anything!
Feel free to reach out to me on discord at TTMead#0125.

Hey TTMead

I have sent you a discord friend request. Want to try out this Game Jam?

Introduction:

Hiya my name is Ru, I'm a game developer in training and have been studying programming languages on my own for several years. I just graduated highschool and am awaiting the start of my first semester of one of the worlds highest ranked Game Development school for a AAA Gamedev Bachelor. The head tutor suggested if I wanted to prepare a little for the course, I should participate in a game jam! I loved the environment when participating in me previous game jam and so here I am again! I'd love to work together with someone on a project!

My skills, what I'm looking :

I'm mainly looking for someone to work together with, merging our creativity and passion into an end submission we can all be proud of!

I have a history of using backend software, so I can use: PHP, TypeScript, JavaScript and Python(not 100%)

I have taken a 2D Unity course, and a 3D Unreal Engine 4 course on Udemy.
With this knowledge I have created several smaller 3D games and 2D games such as a world of tanks clone, and some platformers.

My preferred game engine is Unreal Engine 4, al be it for 2D or 3D alike.
Using C++ and blueprints;

So I'd love to do the programming and engine stuff!

Game concept:

I feel like the game concept is something to brainstorm about, together. Let the creativity flow in a brainstorming session so everyone has their input!

Lets talk!

I'm insanely active on Discord, it is absolutely the fastest way to reach me, to avoid a friend request fiasco, I have made a discord server just for this so we can instantly get talking! Here is an invite link to that server: https://discord.gg/Pc6YNzz
[I'm from Belgium, so my time zone is GMT+2]

 Work:

The only work I can instantly display:

https://unsigned-ru.itch.io/dont-die-pete (My previous game jam submission)
https://rpgthunder.com/ (A text-based MMO in the form of a discord bot)

(I can hand you runnable builds of some other games I have made if you ask :) )
