1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hi! My name's Hester (sleepy on discord), and I'm super shy about all this. I use a lot of exclamation points and typo a lot!! I've goofed around in game engines before but never produced anything meaningful-- I wanna try and make myself finish something, even if it sucks!

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

First time! Did it on a whim, as I'm on break from my course for now and I've been procrastinating on my projects without having a deadline or folks to talk problems through with. I'd like to make something that I haven't been stewing on for too long!

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I like all sorts of games... I suppose my favourites are ones that let me be peaceful, explore an environment, or get in deep with world- and character-building. I also like puzzle games, but I'm way too stupid to make any of those, haha.

I like a lot of the games made by Tale of Tales-- or well, I haven't liked all of their games, but I always appreciate that each game they made... was unapologetically their vision, whether it finds an audience or not. They got weird with it! Thats great!

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

Not really! I've fooled around in RPGMaker and Twine2, but not to any real end. My ideas always get too large to keep up with!

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Ummmmm I like dogs a lot? I'm studying to be a Library Technician, and so far I'm really keen for it! Information management babey!!!!

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

  •  To make a finished project!! Gotta actually finish in a time limit!!
  •  To keep my ideas within the scope of my ability. It's always been a stumbling block for me with personal projects, and it's something I'd like to stamp out

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself? my name is razz, i use they/them pronouns, and i'm an independent generalist with experience in programming, art, writing, and working on music.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining? yes i did! i want to say this is my second time because i joined the 2016/17 winter session but dropped out before the deadline, and then actually saw it through for the 17-18 winter season. what i learned from both times is i need to decrease my scope first and foremost and really dedicate time to learning the new technology before working on the game.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own? im a huge kingdom hearts fan, i've been playing it since i was 9 and it not only inspired me to make my own games but also began my love of story-driven games. other favorites are bioshock, bayonetta, and the elder scrolls franchise

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine? i've messed around with the blender game engine, unreal, RPG maker, and clickteam fusion, but don't have any significant experience in them. i am familiar with the TIC-80 fantasy console however, based on löve2d, which i used to make bonne nuit as my entry for the last jam

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

video games, obv, disco music, cyberpunk settings, art, telling stories, kingdom hearts, computers (esp older ones like my 14 yr old laptop/pet project) and space!

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

i want to have a playable product, something with enough hours of gameplay it doesnt feel as unfinished as my last entry

7. Any advice to new jammers (if you're a veteran)?

new jammers, keep your scope realistic for your skill and the time you can devote to the project. you can easily burn urself out before the deadline this way.

8. If you're a returning jammer, what can the admins do to improve your jam experience? increase resources regarding engines like godot + löve2d + developing for OS besides windows

Submitted (1 edit)

Figure I should do an introduction for myself as well

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

No i dont xD - Im kidding, but I go by the name of shad over on the discord group too and I'm an inspiring game designer specializing in character backstory + worldbuilding as that is what I love most in games. However, I'm also trying to learn programming as well during my free time.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

No , I did not. This would also be my first game jam that I'll be entering. My reason for joining is to established connections with people around the world, and trading knowledge with one another as I'm  only a fresh graduate so its a chance for me to learn from the established peeps.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

Definitely the Kiseki series (The legend of heroes - Trails in the sky especially) with its wonderful character building + World building enchanted me with one of the best characters and world that I have the joy experiencing. I believe those that saw me in discord would know how much I love the series too xD, as I've been raving about them since I joined the jam. Other than that, games like corpse party, doki doki literature club, persona, final fantasy and many others.  My favorite genre comes from the JRPG genre and I do love me some horror fun fare which  is where I'm mostly inspired by when designing my own games.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I have some experience with Unity and Unreal engine to the extend that I'm able to use them to graduate from university. I'm not a pro by any means, but im open to learn :)

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Oh boy, of course it would be game development.

Other than that, video games, football (soccer for the americans) , both my cat and dog. Other than that not much, I live a pretty boring life.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Make new friends, grow to know them better and then finish the game that we would be starting at the start of the jam

7. Any advice to new jammers (if you're a veteran)?

I'm new

8. If you're a returning jammer, what can the admins do to improve your jam experience?

I'm new

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Lebbyfoxx, nice to meet ya

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I didn’t participate last time, and I joined because I am interested to see what will happen, and what the result will be.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I personally like rpg games, fps games, shmup games and simulator games.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I used game maker studio for a college project (i still use it), and I am currently trying to learn how to use UE4

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Games. And military history. Game development is where I hope I end up working in.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

To produce a game for people to play. It provides useful experience to me on how the game development cycle works.

7. Any advice to new jammers (if you're a veteran)?

I am new, so no, but maybe in the future I could give advice

8. If you're a returning jammer, what can the admins do to improve your jam experience?

N/A

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hi! I'm Mario, a game development student from Spain, nice to meet you all!

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

This is the first jam I participate in. I've had some opportunities to join a game jam these past months but was busy with college stuff, so now that I'm on hollidays is the perfect time to finally join one. I think game jams might be  great for learning and improving at game development and discovering new game mechanics, so I'm really looking forward to start working on my jam game.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

My favorite games are Fallout New Vegas, Half-Life 2 and Final Fantasy VII. The Pokemon franchise introduced me into gaming, so there is a special place in my heart for those games too. I also like playing strategy games from time to time, specially Crusader Kings II.

I've recently finished Undertale for the first time, so at the moment I feel filled with DETERMINATION, as this is one of the games that have inspired me the most as a game designer. Another game that inspires me a lot is The Beginner's Guide.

Although I know there are lots of awesome indie games, I admit I haven't played many, so if anyone wants to tell me about some indie hidden gems, I'm all ears ^^.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I have a little bit of experience with game development, but I still consider myself a beginner. So far I've made one full (but short) game by myself using Game Maker, some prototypes in Construct 3 for college, a text-based game using Twine and a more complex game with other three classmates using Unity.

The engine I feel most confident with at the moment is Unity, and i'm currently working on a another game using this engine.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Everything related to game development!

I'm also very interested in anything involving art, science and technology.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

My main goal is to finish a game (hopefully a fun game) in time and learn some new things.

That's it, thank you for reading and good luck to the other jammers!

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hey! My name is Marcos and I'm an IT student.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

This is my first jam, I joined because you bring us the opportunity to collaborate and make a little game. And because of the deadline, that's a big reason for me hahaha!

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I loved playing the Age of Empires saga and Warcraft II and III, then I played a lot World of Warcraf. I really like RPGs and strategy games, as you see, in fact, some of them inspire me and give me new ideas to develop on my own games, but I need experience, so here I am!

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I learned few things on Unity and I've made some games by myself, but I want to improve.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

I love reading books (sci-fi is really neat), movies, music and playing games!

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Do something I'm proud of with my teammates and learn new tricks. In a few words, acquire more experience while I'm having fun.

7. Any advice to new jammers (if you're a veteran)?

8. If you're a returning jammer, what can the admins do to improve your jam experience?

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

My name is Laurence! I'm an aspiring comic artist and gamedev, and am currently pursuing a compsci degree.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I have some free time for the first week of the jam as I am on vacation, and the second half I will only be working, no classes. I want to try to take the time to actually create something instead of dabbling and getting distracted quickly.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I really like Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Zero Escape, and Touhou. I'm especially inspired by Zero Escape and would love to make a point and click + visual novel game in the future because of it.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

Very little. I have decent experience with coding and have played with RPGMaker and a bit with Godot, although I didn't make much progress with either.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Boys. I really enjoy art and character design, and also fiber arts (all I can do right now though is crochet and knit...)!

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

I mostly just want to sit down and focus on something and make actual progress.  Beyond that, making even half of a first SHMUP stage would be pretty cool.

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hi! I go by Lyn or Nil depending on the person and either is fine! I'm a university student and I've run a video game development club far too long to never have actually made a whole game before.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I did not participate in the last jam, but I'm participating now because I want to run one of these. And I'm of the opinion that you have to experience something before you try to recreate it.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

Stardew Valley is my all time favorite game and I've been wanting to make something like it for ages. This jam is not that jam, but it's still on the projects list.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I've used Gamemaker Studio in the past for some small stuff, but not extensively. Hilariously, the largest game I've made was a school project where I was basically told how to implement everything.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Honestly, games of all kinds are my main hobby. Most of my friends are people I play dungeons and dragons with, and I like talking about games both from an industry and art/design perspective.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Goal 1: Make a game; goal 2: have the game actually work. More specifically, I hope to learn how to use Unity so I can go on to make larger games that I'll want to really dedicate myself to working on. I've already learned a couple things from one of my teammates who usually leads our projects about leading projects myself, so that's also going to be a very interesting perspective to take!

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hi all! I have a lot of internet names, knamil is the current one.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I've never had the time for a game jam and most of them are too short. I've always wanted to try a game jam and 2 weeks sounded a little more doable.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I can't even start to list them. They all have a strong story component. As to actual game play I like puzzles or strategy.  Transistor and Hearthstone are probably the games that inspired me to want to make a game as opposed to fanfiction or fanart.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I wrote a free game 7 or 8 years ago for iOS in C and Cocos2d. About twenty years ago I wrote a MUD with the Diku engine.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Telling stories.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Break through a creative block. Commit to finishing something however small.

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hello! I'm Jonathan. I sometimes like too pretend that I can make games! 😂 everything I know about game development is from YouTube videos, and good ol' fashion experimentation.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

That's a negative ghostrider! This is actually my first jam ever.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I have to say my favorite games have to be in the story-rich freeroam vein. (eg: Elder scrolls V, Fallout 4. etc) But I have to say my biggest inspiration had to have been the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games. In particular the last one, "call of pripyat".

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I've only used Unity for game development.  I've dabbled a bit in Blender and Gimp for making art assets. But that's about it.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

I love singing, I'll wear my voice to just a garbled scratching sound before I tire of singing lol! I fancy myself a bit of an amateur astronomer. I also occasionally draw and write. And last but not least, I like game development, though I more prefer coming up with game ideas then actually fleshing them out. Lel

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Have fun, maybe meet some people, perhaps make a fun little game while I'm at it.

7. Any advice to new jammers (if you're a veteran)?

8. If you're a returning jammer, what can the admins do to improve your jam experience?

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hello!! I'm Ruru, nice to meet everyone!

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I participated in the 2016 MFGJ Summer Edition with Mysteryprof, producing Amoris Flores! I hope to be more efficient in coding ren.py and make better art this time around! Despite being busy all the time, I want to join because I love games and want to see more inclusive visual novels that explore many different kinds of genres.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I'm super fond of Hyper Light Drifter and am currently playing Nier:Automata at a glacial pace! I really love strong, visually-told stories and relatable characters.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I specialise in visual novel-style games (previous game), but I also used to study game development! I've had experience with Ren.py and the Unity game engine.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Table-top games! I play Dungeons & Dragons and Masks: A New Generation with a bunch of university friends!! I love my characters so much!! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Get some more game development experience under my belt! I'm great at coming up with ideas but terrible at putting them into words haha...

7. Any advice to new jammers (if you're a veteran)?

Not really a veteran but it's okay if you don't finish! Process is more important than product.

8. If you're a returning jammer, what can the admins do to improve your jam experience?

Please let us know about any changes in deadline extensions ahead of time please;;;

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hello I'm Julia, I enjoy trying new things and giving challenges for myself even that I should study more and nice to meet everyone o/

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

No I did not. These days I wanted to try to make a game so I think here is a good place to start.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I love platforms and farm games. Strangely the first time I thought that "I wish to make a game", like a real game was when I was playing Stardew Valley, maybe because it opened my eyes that one person can make a great game, I can try to make one too.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

Very little, when I was a child I used to play with RPGMaker I never finished any game on it or even remember how to use the program anymore ^^"

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Games, comics and creepy/supernatural stories

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Make a game or at least make something functional

(+1)

I love Fame / Time Management games too! Looking forward to your project

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hi I am Jingyu! I'm from China and I study in US as a sophomore. This is my first time participating in a jam and hopefully I can do well and learn something new,

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

This is my first jam.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I like the Witness, Braid and Replica. Those games really inspired me to be a game developer.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

Used GMS2 for one year and made a couple games. Also I have many projects in college about video games.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Game dev! As a Computer Science major in college I don't really enjoy programming that much but I really enjoy expressing myself using it. That is why I am soooo passionate about game dev. Video game is just an awesome language for me.

I also like other digital media stuffs, in high school I have learned PS, AE and FL studio and made some graphic arts and short films. I blog about my projects and share some thoughts (I like to share thoughts!)

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Get some practice and learn new things! I also like to make friends!(Although I am not that good in English T_T)

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?
Hello, I'm 20potter, I am also a Dan.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?
I did not have the pleasure of joining previously. This is my second jam ever, I started doing jam because I have the habit of doing bigger jobs and then giving up early. So I wanted to put some successes under my belt.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?
My favorite games are pathfinder, and final fantasy tactics. I have seen inspiration from them at various points.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?
I started game development back when I was in elementary school, and I am now a college graduate.
I have some experience with at least a dozen engines. I have particularly come to like godot.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!
I love games, both digital and table-top.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?
I intend to focus a little bit on having more animated sprites, as I am use to using mostly static sprites.
I intend to make a complete game play experience.

7. Any advice to new jammers (if you're a veteran)?
I am not a veteran, but my biggest recommendation is keep your goals in check.
A game jam is a place to dream small so you can realize your dream in a good time period.

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Well, hello! I’m Kayleigh, but you can call me Omulette. I’m a grad student in the fine arts with a passion for storytelling and making things with my hands. Still finding my creative voice somewhere between the odd, heartfelt, and familiar.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I didn’t participate in the previous jam, but I joined MFGJ Winter 2017 (and was very easily overwhelmed with my project at the time). This time around, I hope to engage more with the jam community and finish a playable demo/alpha.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I have a soft spot for casual games. I default to Animal Crossing (New Leaf) when I need a pick-me-up or just can’t decide what game in my library I want to play. Since its GameCube years, Animal Crossing has really influenced my relationships with video games and the friends I’ve met since then. I could write many pages (and I have before) on the series and how it’s fostered my growth as a person and as someone who wants to create meaningful, enjoyable experiences for others.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I have the most experience using RPG Maker MV, with a small array of background projects in VX Ace and RenPy. Code isn’t exactly my strong suit, but I have a good time working with the RPGM series, from creating custom sprites and tiles to making my own music/SFX. My undergraduate thesis was actually my first finished video game with the MV engine: “Walk With Me”! It’s published here on itch.io (free of charge) if anyone’s interested in that sorta cute/weird/homey vibe!

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

I have a growing collection of ball-jointed dolls that I love to bits! I’ll be attempting to sculpt my own during the upcoming school semester, based on Hako from WWM. Playing D&D has also been great fun for me!

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

*Make a solid, mostly-complete demo/alpha version

*Learn more about composing unique BGM

*Have fun & meet other aspiring indie developers

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?  Name is Rich, from the US and trying to get some more experience making some games. Tough getting noticed so I guess I am just trying to keep active in making games and trying to maybe become part of a bigger indie team that could use my skillset.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining? No

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own? Actually I am a sports gamer and I have an idea for an RPG-esq sports game where you play through your days as a kid until you retire from the pros...if you make it that far.  But alas that takes a ton of programming skill, which I still lack.  Actually what inspired me to start making games was my daughter, when she was like 3 I just noticed there were not alot of games that just introduced kids to gaming...so I started there...

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?  Yes 3, Construct2.   Released several games on Google Play store(https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=RTK3+Games) and long my friend Justin.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!  Film making, story telling and video editing are probably my first loves but in an over saturated market of people just doing video blogs it is tough to get people to watch your short films that took months to make, so I took a break to focus on my daughter.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?Netwokring with other devs and artists.

Thanks and I look forward to the jam

Intergalactic Zoo looks like fun, You are one talented C2 Programmer!
I just started working with C3 <insert sweatingBullets.gif here> and hope i can get a hang of things

Thanks...my daughter really seems to like it...even if it is a bit challenging for her 7 year old skillset.  Stick with C3 and you'll get it.  I took some udemy classes for C2 to get a basci understanding.  If there are some for C3 I recommend it.

Ah, good to hear that udemy has recommended course-ware. Signing up right away - cheers

Ah, glad to know a pixel artist is in the mix.
I've dabbed around with Asesprite. Interested with what can be done with that tool - cheers!

Hi! This is my first game jam and my first time going from game lover to game creator!

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

My name is Lidia (username lemonlemon), and I'm new to game development (like, completely new)

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I've only just learned about this jam! I'm actually planning next year to go to grad school for media studies, and I love doing critical analysis of games and other forms of modern media. I thought if I'm going to talk about game dev I should do some of my own, so when I saw this opportunity I jumped on it.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

Definitely Night in the Woods, The Path, Dragon Age 2, and EarthBound!

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

Nope! I'm a complete newbie.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Meaningful stories that people can explore however they want that make them feel something, no matter the player.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

To learn something and make a complete product.

Love EarthBound too! Looking forward to your game, lemonlemon
