Welcome to the Music Travel RPG Jam - a video game music composition journey based on a unique creative limitation - travel to a new location and face a new musical creative challenge each week! (Join the discord for tips and community discussion.)
It is the start of your journey, and you are at the airport, talking to a travel agency, buying a ticket, and waiting in the lobby, waiting for your flight to take off - the start of a new adventure. That is the feeling that we want to capture in the music. The feeling of waiting before a big journey.
Ambient music is like music that's there but not there at the same time. It's not the main focus, but it should enhance whatever area or scenario it's trying to be in (in this case, the feeling of waiting for the plane to take off in the lobby of an airport.)
It shouldn't be "in your face" like other music, but like something playing in the background that doesn't really distract you from what's going on.
So softer instruments like flutes, pads, etc. would be good choices for ambient music. So would long, drawn-out drone tones. This probably isn't the time for a heroic brass fanfare. It doesn't necessarily have to be meditative per se, but can be. Ambient music is more passive than active.
Your composition must make use of at least one Auxiliary Percussion instrument. Perhaps you will be subtle and use a triangle for a nice touch. Perhaps you will be loud and decide to use an anvil - it's up to you. For your convenience, a list of Auxiliary Percussion instruments is provided below (make sure to scroll down to where it says auxiliary percussion).
