Wow, this game is really polished and felt great to play! It has a really nice retro feel to it, and it’s adorable. Even the start menu has a little pig to control and select, it all adds to the charm of the game. Sound effects were on point, even the rocket flying off at the end was cool. While the level structure on normal and hard remained the same, the placement of the trees which create the sections and paths within the level was different and procedurally generated each time, which is awesome. Accomplishing all this in 48 hours is an amazing feat. I like the concept of farming for carrots to be used as an attack and to self-heal too, but yeah, I would like to see more uses for them.
I know this is due to the game jam time limit, but I guess my only criticism is to have more variety in the mechanics and enemies, because right now, changing the difficulty only means bigger level and more enemies; it doesn’t introduce much depth other than the reduced chicken-time. Great work! Would love to see more of it!
Oh yeah, some bug reports. I found that the fullscreen mode on a 1080p screen will make the game stretched. I also encountered a bug where sometimes when first entering a section, the farmers did not chase me and I can move around freely. It was only until I entered a few other sections that the farmers started chasing me. This was on Hard difficulty. This only happens some of the time, so I’m not sure what could have been the problem.
Are you playing on Windows? I've not came across that bug myself in 1080p!
Farmers only start chasing you after you attack them or after you change section a second time, just to give new players some time to react.
Yeah, I’m on Windows 10 64-bit. Ah, I see, that’s a good way to ease pressure on new players!
Thanks for playing and for tanking your time to write such an in depth response!
I plan to do a post jam update with all the intended features! Poop bomb, proper farmer pathfinding, farmer drops, and generating a proper maze Spelunky style.
This is great. I love the ammo-gardening and all the little niceties like the good SFX and animations. This has a great level of polish and simple but enjoyable core gameplay - plus the general premise is very sweet. Very nice stuff indeed and one of my favorites thus far :)
Thanks for playing and for your kind words! I'm glad you liked it.
Cool game, it was very well polished and had a lot of charm. I played on easy mode and beat it, so the carrots probably have more use on the higher difficulties. I like the idea of farming your ammo, that is pretty unique. No real criticisms, just a solid, fun game!
Thanks for playing. I'm glad you liked it.
This was a very cute, polished little game! The harvesting mechanics were really fun, though I feel not completely necessary. Everything felt satisfying and had a lot of charm though! Great work! :)
Thanks for playing!
The havesting mechanics were originally going to play a much bigger role, but I ran out of time to implement the rest, I'll try to add them post jam.
I run throw the map and collect the ship parts and haven't harvested any carrots. Funny little game. I had fun playing it. :)
Thanks for playing!
That's the ultimate challenge (if you don't play on Easy), during playtesting many players were unable to beat it without shooting!
As other said, bu just farming tons of carrots at the beginning you just obliterate those farmers lol. But great idea, everything works great!
Thanks for playing! Yeah, hoarding carrots makes it too easy, I'll try and fix it after the jam ends.
I spend too much time harvesting carrots. I became the ruler of this realm after having like 200+ carrots.
After that i just speedran my way trough the game and got the ship ahah.
As an idea maybe you can have raids in the middle of the map to interrupt the pig's farming
Fun stuff man!
Thanks for playing!
That's actually a great idea! If I end up doing a post jam update that's definitely going to be a new feature.

Hey! I'm glad you liked it.
Easy mode it's very easy I think you can beat any mode without even farming, it just depends on your skills.
Fun and casual game. I think the main two problems are that carrots are too much trouble for what they are worth (I rather just run away) and farmers can insta hit you if they are too close to the edges.
Overral, well thought and enjoyable. Bonus points for procedural map!
Carrots were going to be involved in more mechanics, but I ran out of time.
Do you mean that farmers can insta hit you if they were following you, then you moved to another area and came back trough the same "door"? That's semi intentional, I had no time to build a proper maze so having them waiting for you was a way to encourage the use of other routes.
Thanks for playing!
It's a nice game, well rounded. I just wish you would explain about the carrot being used as projectile, I didn't understand right away why I should plant them. But to be honest it feels like most of the game can be done without this feature, just by going through bushes. In conclusion, I had fun :D
I had planned to use them also as fuel for the rocket but I ran out of time.
I'm glad you had fun!
Don't quite know what to do to make the Mac version run. Tried running StarPig from shell and it didn't work. Tried chmod +x for it and same again. Tried adding the .app extension with no luck for that one either. Any clues?
Maybe it's being blocked because it's from an "unknown dev"? You can check on the security settings or run xttra -c to clean it's attributes and try again.
Nah, that's not it. That is the usual story in jam games and of course I know how to go around that.
I'm so sorry, I didn't have time to test the Mac version, I just exported the game for Mac. It's my first time developing a game in Monogame.
No big deal, at least you tried. Actually, it looks like quite a lot of the games are mac playable on this jam. Usually it's way less than half. Surprised that so many are web playable.
carrots, pigs, spaceships and farmers! what a creative use of the art assets! great game!
Thanks for playing!
Adding colour to some of the sprites gave it a very nice feel, the watering can got a little tiring to use but it was still very fun to play. Some of the highest ratings I have given really nice job!
Out of interest where did the pig end up?
I could have added more than one use, but I wanted to discourage hoarding carrots. I'm glad you liked it!
He went back to his planet, Sty, to marry his girlfriend form highschool, Karen.
Whoops, I hoarded carrots and got to 999 I'm happy to say the game doesn't break but the carrot counter keeps going up behind the scenes :)
I'm really happy for the guy, although make sure she doesn't take the kids!
This game was super cute. And It made total sense. Farmers were a bit of a pain but I manage to rebuild the rocket without shooting once. And I was almost finished when I discovered the planting mechanism. I was just digging grass and and flowers.
The forest was really nicely generated and It did not felt like it.
Really enjoyable game.
Were you playing on Hard difficulty? It can be almost impossible to beat without farming depending on the RNG.
The forest was generated using celular automata. I spent a lot time working on it.
I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for playing.
This game is really fun! Despite being pretty short (which is completely understandable!) it's really enjoyable and I really like the idea of the enemies only being temporarily defeated!
I'm glad you found it fun!
With the time we had, I could have made as long as I wanted, making the grid 10x10 for instance, but the content would have been the same and it would have been too boring.
I like to press H :D
Try moving clicking or walking towards the title in the menu screen.
yea.. i see.. :DDD
Fun game with a cute idea :-)
Thanks!
honestly I enjoyed just playing pig farmer simulator for a while. Ended up taking on the humans at like 80 carrots, they didn't stand a chance :P
Hey, thanks for playing! Farming was going to be the main mechanic of the game but it was going to be to bland, so I added the farmers.
This is a great game, I love the sound effects and the whole theme of it
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the sound effects since I made them from scratch.
This is a fun little short game with good replayability. I ran into no issues while playing which is a pretty good statement when it comes to proced. levels, and was able to complete the game on all dificulties. My only question is whether or not the carrots have any other purpose than ammunition, because I figure running around the farmers is a lot easier than fighting them, rendering the carrots useless. Otherwise a great game with wonderful audio and a great premise.
You can also heal with carrots!
I had more uses for them, including being fuel for the rocket, but I ran out of time to implement it.
Thanks for playing!
