Pretty cool with the 2D assets in a 3D world. Though, enemies randomly breaking right in front of you is quite annoying. The game is also only beatable in at least two runs. Since you start all the way in the back, and the next time you start at your finish position.
Thanks. It's possible to win starting in the back. Of course, I've had a lot of practice.
Really cool game, loved the 3d/2d style, I felt like playing mario kart for gameboy, feels really polished
Also the AI feels really nice
Thanks much! The AI was and as always with a jam was my worst enemy. Glad I got it to a level where it can be fun.
Very good game! I like the retro vibes in it but I quite don't understand what do the pickups do. Nonetheless, it's a very fun and engaging game to play. 4.5 / 5 :)
The gems increase your top speed.
Loved this, never would have though to make a racing game with the art pack. The driver AI seemed realistic and it was fun to race although once I got in front it felt like I would win every time. To add a bit more polish I would suggest having the sprite change slightly to indicate you are turning. Some tracks that require you to brake would be good too, I just went full throttle the whole way round
You're right--something like rotating the kart sprite would have gone a long way. As per usual during a game jam, the AI took up a lot of my time; if I had gotten the AI better, I would have made driving a little tougher with drifting. I wanted people to go fast!
Collecting the gems increasing your speed is a really interesting mechanic, I liked it!
My main criticism is that the cart didn't really control that well, it needed some torque and slide and stuff like that, to make it feel more "cart"-like.
But really unique entry, and I had a lot of fun trying to beat the AI. Great work! Awesome job!
Thanks so much. If I can made the AI a little better, I would have turned up the drift more--it's there, but it's almost nominal.
I loved it just because of how different it is from other submissions. Also really fun to play through once cuz the AI gives a nice challenge.
Thanks for being up to the challenge!
Very nice little karting game. I liked the little camera-tilting intro and rather like the map view at the bottom. The coin mechanic made sense and was fun when you got a lot of them - I played a few times to see if I could hog enough of them to lap one of the computer racers. Very nice :)
Awesome. It sounds like you cracked it!
Very funny Mario Kart reference hauahuahuahau.
Fun little racer with solid feeling controls, Could be a lot of fun with some interesting tracks. I'm a real sucker for snes MK and this really invokes that feeling
Thanks. Your thumbs up means a lot then. I would have liked to have created some new tracks.
Dude this is so good! If your goal was to pay homage to Mario Kart then you have succeeded. Really well done. The AI was actually really good at collecting coins but I managed to win when they got greedy for the coins on the final bend! Great job with this!!
The game is pretty well done, especially for being a game jam entry. I did miss powerups, and/or some sort of drift mechanic, but that’s because I’m comparing it to Super Mario Kart.
Nice controls well and is very polished and now i have a huge urge to play super mario kart lol
I really enjoyed this one! I'm a sucker for racing games and you really nailed it. No complaints from me good job man!
Thanks!
Really fun racing game and the AI made for a fun single player experience so that was great too. Controls felt really good overall a solid entry, would love to see more maps to help with replayability, but if wanting more is a complaint then that is obviously a good thing, nice job!
Thanks. That means a lot to hear!
Nice game, really gave me sorta 90s vibe. Too bad, there wasn't more than one race. But anyway, good job, thank you for the game! On 50 gems I was real turbo.
Nice! 50 gems in a race is top notch!
Why don't we have more snes MK nowadays
This style is the best!
kinda wish there was obstacles or drift but hey it's fun already lol
Good work!
Haha. Thanks. There actually is drift, I just had it turned way down. If I improve the AI, I could probably crank it up a bit.
That was a really fun track racer! It felt pretty complete for an MVP. Perhaps the only thing I thought was missing was a place indicator, either during the race or at the finish. I definitely wasn't last, but the game called me a LOSER ;P
Yea the "loser" is a bit harsh. :P My first enhancement post submission was a place indicator. It's still a little buggy around the finish line though.
I won't hold it against it :)
Really cool game. Like the other have said this is a throw back to the first Mario Kart game on the SNES. Good stuff! Two things that could be improved imho:
But really cool entry. Had a lot of fun with this one! Good job :)
Thanks for the feedback! Yea, I was worried about the engine sound being a bit raucous, especially when a bunch of karts are next to each other at the beginning of the race. All karts start with the same speed. Gems picked up during the race make a kart faster. The AI is a little dumb and a bit greedy when it comes to collecting gems. Capitalize on that greed and you will overtake them, but don't forget to keep picking up gems--they are more substantial than coins in Mario Kart.
Oh that makes sense :) Then maybe a speed / max speed indicator would be a great addition. That way you can instantly see that the gems make you faster
That is a cute little game and works really well. the different camera angles and the zoom in form the sky. The only complain I have is that the track itself is a little boring. maybe you could have made some landmarks or little obstacles.
but overall very polished and nice.
Great little game! I loved it. Brought me back to a particular N64 game that I loved. Good job.
