This jam is now over. It ran from 2018-12-28 16:30:00 to 2018-12-31 22:00:00. View results

Sometimes lack of a mechanic can be entertaining. There are many games that limit player's abilities in a way that are both fun and challenging. This jam is all about that.

THIS JAM'S MINUS MECHANIC IS:

DIRECT ATTACK

:: player cannot deal damage to any enemy in the game
:: attacking enemies is allowed but not directly (i.e. via punching and stuff)
:: other interactions are allowed

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

First of all - about creating great games!

Second - overcoming limitations.

Third - having fun!

WHAT IS THE THEME?

There is no theme. This jam's main focus is the mechanic you are not allowed to implement in your game. It will be up to you how do you want to overcome the challenge - would you go the lame path make a game in a genre that doesn't use the mechanic or will you  make something really  brilliant. The choice is yours.

Of course, the way you've worked with the missing mechanic is the main focus of the jam and will be judged by me.

DA RULEZ?

:: No pre-made assets (exception for public domain and open art and music).
:: No pre-written code
:: Your game can be later worked on and sold (mention the jam in game if you
:: #MinusMechanicJam is the Twitter hashtag
:: 18+ content is allowed
:: Everyone can vote on two categories: Fun of Playing and Game's Potential.

IS THERE ANY PRIZE?

Sadly, not yet. This first jam is more of a proof of concept than full event with judges and prizes. On my own I can make a few shout outs but I am nowhere near a recognizable persona... If I come up with something, I'll update you!

WHY SHOULD I CARE THEN?

That's a great question! I am glad you've asked it!

This jam is directed at the creators who wants to challenge themselves and give their brain cells some exercise in the holiday break. If you care about prizes, it's not jam for you (at least not this edition).

If you decide to join - YOU ARE AWESOME!
