The idea is cool but the difficulty is soooo high! You should let the ennemy come one by one at the beginning of the game.
Thanks for playing! Having an initially slower rate of enemies could be a good idea.
Interesting idea and very challenging.
I think something that could balance out the difficulty would be to aim with the mouse or the left controller stick instead of 'A' and 'D'. You could still limit the steering speed of the main character if you're worried about that. As it is, it can be pretty difficult to juggle both the player position and the color choice.
Regardless, good job overall :)
Thank you for playing! An alternative control scheme would be an interesting idea - aiming with the mouse might be more intuitive for players and may allow for more finely-tuned movements. The colour swapping mechanic was meant to be a fun challenge but I'm beginning to wonder if I may have gone too far. It's interesting to me that most players found this mechanic too difficult, while a couple of players seemed to have been able to manage it well enough to beat the game. As a novice game dev, I'm unsure as to whether I should try to make easier games that appeal to the larger audience or if I should continue to make challenging games that appeal to a more niche audience.
I can't say I have a lot of experience with game dev specifically (I am an experienced software developer but I'm new to developing games). But I think that at this stage, what's most important is that you keep growing and learning, and in order to do that, you should work on whatever motivates you the most.
If you prefer challenging games (like me), then keep making challenging games. A lot of players like a good challenge, just look at how popular 'Dark Souls' is. You will have to get experience in order to make gameplay that is both challenging and fun, and there's no better way to do that than making more challenging games :)
I appreciate your thoughts - making challenging games is definitely what motivates me at this stage :)
really nice game, some polish would do this game wonders ≽^•⩊•^≼
specifically by making the enemies move slower. also would be nice to see the text on the screen be reduced or have an option to hide texts.
Thank you for checking out my game! I appreciate your suggestion; an option to hide the control scheme is a good idea. If you don't mind my asking, was the game too difficult to play because of the enemy speed?
yehp, i would suggest ramping up the speed instead... so the game starts slow, and gradually speeds up.
I like the mechanics and the art is great. It was a little hard for me, admittedly. I think it's 'cause the aliens come way too fast before I could even register in my mind which button to press. What if it started with fewer aliens and slowly ramp up their numbers and their speed? Also, maybe we could have one keybind to cycle through the different bullet types? Still, really good entry, I love the visual clarity and the UI.
Thanks for playing! I'm starting to realize that the game is quite difficult for a few players - I think your suggestion of slowly ramping up the intensity is a good way of easing players in. One keybind to cycle through the ammo types could also be easier to grasp than 3 different keys, even if it may require more presses to select the ammo you want (at most 2).
I'm glad you liked the art!
Nice one, although it's too hard for me. XD
Thanks for playing! Maybe several difficulty modes could be a good idea
Great work! It was kinda hard for me to switch the colors, but I enjoyed it nonetheless :)
Thank you for playing my game! I can definitely see how ammo swapping could be challenging to get used to
Very nice! Love your art work. It was easy to catch on to the gameplay (I tried playing it without reading the tutorial first). It was a bit hard to toggle between colors, but that might have just been me! Good job :)
Thank you for checking out my game! I'm glad you were able to figure out the gameplay just through playing
Quite fun, also I beat you
Nicely done! Thank you for playing!
Maybe some UI of all three color ammo in a row would help to remember which ammo was what. I also think it could have just been three shoot buttons, but I can see the appeal of either. Nice, compact work!
Thanks for playing! Yeah I think the control UI showing each ammo colour would have been helpful to the player. It definitely could work with 3 separate shooting buttons for each ammo type; the gameplay would be quite different in that you could shoot 3 ammo types at once (as opposed to swapping from one to the other in sequence).
I loved the sound when you got a new highscore and the music matched well with the game. Also having a accruacy rating aswell! :)
I couldnt get the hand of which keyboard button went with each colour projectile.
Thank you for playing! I think I could have shown more clearly which key corresponds to which colour in the control instructions
Fun game, but way too difficult for an idiot like me xD
Thank you for playing!
Great game ! The controls are a bit too sensitive and when we hit the aliens, beside them cchanging colors, we don't really have a clear indication on wether we hit them or not. Otherwise, keep up the good work !
Thanks for playing! I appreciate your feedback - do you think a sound cue would help when you hit an alien?
Yes we think that a little sound effect or vfx like a tiny explosion or anything you have in mind would be awesome ! :D
It was a real challenge for me, but I got through it (one of my attempts ended with a score of 99, but the next one was successful). Good game!
Nice job! Thank you for playing!
