Excellent game, love the style. Really challenging but makes you want to keep playing!

Developer

Thank you!

The art style is awesome! I particularly liked your shadow wizards. Game play loop was also enjoyable, but I did have an issue where my character wouldn't always jump. Great stuff :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I didn't have much time to tweak the wizard's behavior, but glad it worked out!

after following a bit the development of this game during the jam, it is really cool to be able to play the final product ! i absolutely love how expressive and colorful the art style and general vibe is : the comic really is a cool addition and adds so much more personnality to connie! gameplay is fun & smooth, a bit tricky at first but after a couple of tries i really had fun, soundtracks were nice as well! amazing job, one of my favorite from this jam

Happy to hear you enjoyed it :D (and happy ya like Connie!)

Developer

So glad you enjoyed it!

Nice game. I really like the art.

Thankyou!!

A clever way of using the limitation. I like it, the art is also cool!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

Amazing experience - beautiful art and interesting mechanics of balance between resources and options! Loved it, you can see how much care was put into this game!

Developer

Thank you so much!

Your game page looks awesome and the game too! I'm a bit disappointed that this isn't a story game. I was expecting a grand tale after the initial cutscene. The game mechanics are good, I just wish I could crouch to hit those slimes. Also, I appreciate the controller support. One more thing, the game shouldn't allow me to kill myself by throwing away the last crystal.

DeveloperSubmitted

Haha I wish we coulda made a grand quest :P

I for sure agree that you should be able to crouch, it offers a strange freedom in any platformer

And yeah we should definitely put something in place to stop you from being able to kill yourself, as I did that many a many times

The art style is amazing and I loved your storying telling panels haha.  I didn't expect taking more crystals to weigh me down so I really liked having to decide whether or not to grab more of them or have better mobility. Would love to see this game continued to be worked on!

Developer

An updated post-jam version is definitely possible.

Submitted(+2)

Really enjoied the art style, and story telling.
The weight gained from the crystals really added to the complexity of the game, if you have more crystal, you can tank more damage, but if you have less you can jump a lot better, so i cought myself avoid getting more life. Nice mechanic.

Developer(+2)

Thanks! Designing interesting mechanics is my favorite part of game development.

Submitted(+2)

Love the story and especially the art! The comic strip in the beginning was a great addition. Also, stomping superiority >>>

Funtastic game!

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Thankyou Thankyou!!!

(and yeah stomping is for sure the way to go :P)

Submitted(+2)

The art is amazing and cute, I loved the style! Music and mechanics are great! Very good job :)

Developer

Thank you

Thankyou kindly! Happy you enjoyed it :D

Managed to get a 1:56! Fun animations and soundtrack. The Crystal attack feels super risky for such a small, low damage projectile, but I really like the interplay of it being your health and ammo simultaneously, collecting more also encumbering your platforming forces you to not horde them which is a neat. Real quality entry!

Developer(+1)

Awesome time! I really should tweak the crystal's effects, but I didn't know how well it'd work, as I wanted to discourage hoarding. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

My pleasure! honestly just increasing the size and damage would do a ton towards making it more viable!

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Great time! Far above my own ;-;

And I agree that maybe we should make the crystal shot maybe 1-shot enemies, it is your life essence after all!

(Additionally your pfp kicks ass!)

Submitted(+1)

I think that'd be a great change!

(dang thank you! I'm a sucker for sheepdog bangs)

Submitted(+2)

Rather tricky, but still very fun!
The music and art are amazing too, great job!

DeveloperSubmitted

Thankyou! Happy the jams weren't to loud :P

Submitted(+2)

Clever use of the limitation. The mechanics are interesting and very unique. Congrats on the submission!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

Your art and animation is really good! The humor the game has is really good too, it goes so well with the design of the character! The game ran very smoothly and the mix of enemies made me think how I should use my resources to kill everyone while not having too many crystals or too few! This was very fun!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback on the game design! Coming up with the right kinds of enemies for the main mechanic was a fun challenge.

DeveloperSubmitted

Thankyou so much!!
(and I'm happy the comic was decently funny :P)

Art style is suuuuper cute! The gameplay is interesting, and the idea of having more gems/power making you less agile is interesting, almost like a glass(or crystal) cannon!

A couple things I think you could look into.

The intro comic is actually well sectioned into "pages", so I think instead of having an eased scroll over the entire sequence, maybe one that pauses on each page section(for reading sections and not slowly peeking into them), with a quicker transition would be interesting (similar to a page turn).

The game asset art is of high quality, but I think they are just a little bit unreadable(as in the shapes and outlines) with the current browser resolution, even more so with the full screen resolution. (Maybe thicker outlines, or simplifying would help with that?)

I also died a lot, mostly due to me not keeping track of the crystal amount. Maybe you could have an audio/visual cue for when you're low on crystals.

Other than that, cool game, I loved the story and it was pretty funny! The characters were nicely designed too.

Developer

I'll be sure to take all of this great feedback into account while working on updates! Thank you for your feedback!

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Thankyou thankyou!!

Funny you noticed that about the intro comic as it actually was drawn as 3 separate pages that I coalesced into one because I put the "Of course Ms. Ruby" reaction on the wrong page and it broke the flow ;-;

I agree that some thicker outlines would for sure benefit it!

And I like the idea for the audio cue for the low crystals, would definitely prevent some self-inflicted demise :P

the music was amazing and the art was cute, good work <3

Thankyou so much!! :3

I jumped too high and left the screen entirely! Then enemies kept pouring in, and soon the page refreshed because it was “using too much memory” (probably from the flood of enemies).

I appreciate that you added controller support, that makes it much easier to play comfortably!

The running animations feel really off at slow speeds. I know it’s a jam and time is tight, but if you want to expand on this then you should definitely have per-speed animations

Developer(+1)

That's odd, I may have introduced a bug with the jump scaling, as it should be limited to stay on screen. Sadly, slowing down the animation was the only solution for our tight time, but maybe we can whip up something for the post-jam version. Thanks for playing!

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Yeah I had that happen too while trying to get footage for the trailer :P
And yeah ideally we would have had 2 running animations to match the different speeds better but I won't lie, it took like, an hour just to get the 4 frames of running we have so that would've been not so great with our time limit ;-;

Developer(+1)

Ah, it looks like there's no collision box above the arena! Whoops! I'll fix that.

Submitted(+2)

Looks great, sounds great. The little pre-roll story felt very fun and I enjoyed reading it.

Definitely died by shooting quite a few times, it felt like you're better off trying to combo chain jumps even at heavy weights in lieu of shooting which makes shoot's place a little weird to me personally.

Great work guys.

Developer

I did have more enemy designs that would require shooting and make the game more interesting, but I wasn't able to get them all in, sadly. It'll be in the post-jam update, though!

Submitted(+2)

I understand ya' entirely! I cut 19 whole spells from mine and a whole AI system. Goodluck on the post-jam updates.

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Thankyou!! Happy you enjoyed my silly little comic :P

Submitted(+1)

Wow! You have a very cool style and the whole game is made so beautifully! :) But for some reason the game doesn't respond well to button presses, but I think it's because of my device. Great job!

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Thankyou so much :D

as for the input issue I'm not certain what could be causing that, I know I had issues playing in browser so I recommended trying the downloadable version instead
