Congratulations on rock bottom, really well deserved 2nd spot. Was a lot lot of fun to play and proof that little old men can carry giant rocks somewhat distances
That was the most fun entry I've played thus far ! The sprites and sounds combined with the silly concept were hilarious, and I while not very hard I had a lot of fun figuring out the path to take ! And the music was quite nice ! ( that level with only old men was very funny )
Wow, this game was epic! This might be my favorite game of the jam!! This game oozes with charm from the intro crawl, to the sound effects, to the music that plays when the simulation begins. You tackled the theme and limitation perfectly. I laughed that the hero was still petrified in the end. Really amazing job! You both should be proud.
Extremely good implementation in such a short time. I really wanted more levels to play.
One of the games I've finished all the way through!
One of the most impressive games I have seen in the gamejam! It stands out in Concept and Enjoyability.
The concept is awesome! One of the most unique in the gamejam, the idea is awesome and level design is as good as puzzle games made by big developing teams.
Enjoyability was pretty good, the fact that a new trooper is unlocked after every few levels is what really hooked me to keep on playing. The only thing that brought down enjoyability just a quality of life features such as the indicator of the paths and restarting which resets the whole layout as mentioned by other reviews.
My only feedback is the ui design, I can't remember all of them but some ui feels out of place and doesn't look appealing too much. There are videos of good game ui design and how good color themes make it look better. Some examples are the audio slider and the character selection bar which is just plain black and the audio slider having the default unity theme. Don't take my word for it though, I might be the only one saying this and maybe you can be successful with the current design.
Congrats on finishing this well done of a game! Really is one of the amazing games I played in the gamejam!
Greatly appreciate you playing through our game and enjoying it this much! I ended up changing the look of the audio slider in the main menu so it should look better now, thanks for the advice! If there's anything else in the ui that we should change let us know
Really well thought out game, an amazing use of the limitation. Many games find a way to avoid the limitation, but I've always found working around it to be better, like this. You saw the limitation and built a game idea from the ground up to use that limitation as its core, creating a unique and interesting game concept.
Some minor problems I had, besides the ones already mentioned like not seeing the people's path, I found that the area to click the icons of the troopers is too small, though it appears to be accurate with the sprites, I would've liked for them to be bigger so I don't have to click the exact rectangle of the sprite.
This submission is really solid, probably the best one I've played so far! If you end up making a more fleshed out version, I'll definitely check it out if I find out about it.
We really appreciate you playing the game and dropping this thoughtful feedback! The trooper icon hitbox was funnily enough made smaller because of a collision bug that we kept encountering. We'll try to find a way to solve that bug to make their hitboxes full grid tiles because I can definitely see how that would hamper the playability to not have the whole tile selectable. We also ended up updating the game to add the positioning of the troopers on the grid during the preparation stage!
This is fantastic! I love the cute little story and the visuals are fun. And I definitely didn't expect the goofy sound effects when the townsfolk carry the hero! The gameplay is also well designed with some legitimately good levels layouts. The only things I would look at if you take another pass at the game are minor and include showing the path that the units that are already placed, keeping the units placed when you fail, and making it clearer when you can't start the simulation because there are no units touching the hero. (That took me a minute to figure out. Lol)
That being said, I truthfully enjoyed this game! I hope you take the concept further in the future!
Thank you for playing and enjoying the game, and for your really helpful feedback! We were able to update the game so that you can see the paths of your troopers on the battlefield, but we'll have to put it in a lot more work to allow the player to reset from the preparation stage with all their troop positions in tact. We'll definitely keep working on it though!
I loved this game. One of the few I played all the way through. The idea of a little old man carrying a giant rock man on this back with a walking stick made me chuckle. I enjoyed the fail music, although really the only reason I failed was because I had accidentally positioned a tile one over and hadn't noticed. Only suggestion would be change the font. Works really well for small bits of text like the button and character speech bubbles. Really hard to read large paragraphs of it. Awesome game!
I didn't even consider the readability of the font choice over multiple paragraphs thanks for bringing this up i'll definitely try to update it as soon as I can! Thanks for enjoying the game we really appreciate it
I changed the font for the intro, it's significantly more readable now!
Fun little game, I loved the sound effects! I wish that I could see all of the peoples moves when they're on the battle field. A little indicator would make it easier to solve the problems. Great job!
Yea that's definitely one thing we really wanted to add but weren't able to due to the time limitation of the jam. We'll definitely look into adding that future though it would help a lot with the game feel
We added indicators on the battlefield!
I was a bit confused at first, but I eventually figured it out. Its such an interesting idea. Great use of the limitation. Well done!
Thanks!
This was adorable. Great fx and well put together. i would play more levels!
We were initially planning for 30 levels but were hampered by the jam's time limit, we'll definitely add more in the future. Thanks for playing!
Nice game idea. The unique characters doing different things is very cool. However, I encountered a bug where it kept saying "3… 2… 1… GO!" and wouldn't go, it would just repeat the counting forever on loop.
:D
Thank you for bringing up this bug to our attention, we've fixed it! ... probably
Really fun, I loved the mechanics although I didn't understand it at first, I thought it was a race between different characters :P
Cool animations and funny sounds.
Ps. I'm stuck at the level where there's basically just jumps because there's like a countdown that loops forever, but other than that it was perfect!
Thank you for playing the game! As for the bug, were you playing the web version or the downloadable version?
No problem :)
Web version
We discovered the source of the problem, we're currently fixing it. Thanks for bringing this up to our attention!
No problem ;)
We fixed it!
super fun but the one level where its essentially stairs broke for me and it just kept counting from 3 over and over
We really appreciate you bringing this bug up to our attention, we didn't know it even existed but its now been fixed. Glad you enjoyed the game!
