Wow this one is super cool! I'll admit it took me a bit to understand what was going on, but I'm like that in general with card/tabletop games. After one round I understood what was happening, and was enjoying it a lot. I love the concept of tarot cards for this type of game, and the presentation was really pretty! I was shocked when the game opened and the background was transparent, since I didn't expect it, but it made the experience more immersive in a way, and I enjoyed it.
Overall this is really good, and I'm hoping you add more to it in the future! I think some sounds and maybe even music would add a lot to it. Amazing work!
Thank you for playing! I'm glad you appreciated the transparent background, I thought it might have been tacky at first instead of a solid color background but I just decided to go with it. The game is pretty confusing I'll admit that, but I'm glad you were able to enjoy it and understand after a bit. Thanks for the review! : D
I'm thinking of releasing a complete version with sound in the future too because it totally lacks the card thwip sound that every card game needs.
This is a good and very original game. The one problem is that it does not explain anything, so sometimes I was clicking randomly because I wasn't sure what's going on. I would suggest to add some on-screen text in the beginning, when you choose cards (and how that choice works), and afterwards, display the action of the selected card in one place instead of many smaller texts when you hover a card. But all in all - no bugs found, and I would like to play some upgraded/expanded version definitely.
Honestly I just came up with the idea of playing a card game based on the tarot arcana and I was super focused on making the cool magical effects mysterious and flavorful, but it doesn't really help the learning curve at all. I totally get the getting confused and clicking randomly part; It seems I had some tunnel vision of the player experience since I already knew what the cards did. I do see that it would help a lot more with on-screen text and actually having accessibility options like being able to look at a card pool on the side to see what cards you've seen and what they do. I wish I was able to make the gameplay experience smoother because the time limit and the unreadable font and text box combo and kind of make it super difficult to understand what's going on.
I do plan on making a finished version soon! What it's missing is some really satisfying card and fortune sounds, (and also one of the major arcana that I somehow forgot when drawing). But it was super fun making this small game in the small time I had and I'm super proud of it.
Thank you for playing my game!
Yes, for now, it is a good game and it works, which is most important ;). And hah, I know this "tunnel vision" thing also from my game. It's great you are making the next version!
I think I figured out what I was doing after I lost 2 times neat card game. Weird choice of letting the cards by on the screen with what ever you had open as the bg but nothing major. I didn't run into any bugs that I noticed anyways so got nothing to say about that. good job on your game.
Thank you for playing my game! Honestly the cards on the screen were because I thought the minimalistic feel of it would make it feel more like you're actually taking the deck out and playing with it (I also saw it was a feature in Godot and I thought it was super cool). But it did come with tradeoffs and sacrifices for menus and overall immersion.
well it worked. When I first loaded the game because it took a bit to fully load I was like did the game not start lol. That was the only real issue I noticed when I first loaded it up.
Took a hot minute to figure out what was going on, but I really enjoyed the overall aesthetic of the game and once I got the hang of it had a pretty solid time. The game was super pretty, and the color scheme and idea behind the game really all worked together.
I do think some things like some visible timers or explanations in game would be beneficial, but overall a super solid first jam! It was my first one as well, so I'd love some comments and ratings! https://itch.io/jam/mini-jam-130-lunar/rate/2020903
Yep, yep! It definitely deserved an easier learning curve. Especially since it's such a complicated game. The timers and explanations were also very lackluster. I think the shining points had to be the thematic feel and aspect of it, but it did need some work on being more accessible in general.
Played it for a bit, I like the color theme, and design of the game. It requires a lot of exploration to learn the mechanics of the game such as the effects of the cards. A few points of confusion were knowing when the card effects are reversed and which cards are selected when picked. They don't really have an indicator for them nor do I know if you can select a card and deselect them. I also feel like the "main screen" when you are first shown the cards to be a bit confusing on what you have to do. Some lingering guidance like static texts describing what each card does would be nice. Overall I'd say once you get past those points and a few others I'd say it was an entertaining game so far.
Thank you for the valid criticisms! I do also think that its hard to see which cards are reversed and that it was very unclear. Most of my focus during the jam was to implement the complicated card effects, making sure they worked, and the art, so I was unable to provide a well-developed beginner and starting experience. thank you for playing my game!
Took me a bit to figure out what was going on, but I think I understood after a few minutes of playing. The presentation is really cool! Great stuff
Thank you for the comment! I wanted to put a tutorial and guide but I was really short out of time during the jam because I had no clue what I was doing with Godot :P. also thanks for playing!
