Wow that was super cool, I was really impressed on you managed to synce the shooting with the unique bullet patterns, I'll have to learn how you did that. The story was pretty hard to follow along with since I spent the majority of the time dodging incoming fire, but I appreciate that there was more available to the game if that's what I was interested in. I couldn't quite finish the game, sadly only made it about 90% of the way. Overall this is a fantastic exectution on the limitation. Well done dude.

Developer

There's just like a you win screen at the end.
Most of the story is in the intro which you can skip.

As far as the timing went. I had 8, 8 second clips that were all running at once and faded in when i needed them. I simply had each gun or other effect listen to the audio source and see what 'time' it was at in the clip and programmed each gun to only fire at certain time signatures.

What a nice game!

I'm glad someone else took the path of the bullet hell with musical attack patterns, we thought about it but went another way. This is a really good implementation, with clear visuals, nice music, clear and nice attack patterns, well tuned difficulty, and super intuitive controls. Also thanks for letting me skip the intro.

Why do you have to hold click to move the ship? It was quite tiring for me (wrist issues).

Also, I personnaly prefer bullet hells where your hurtbox is really tiny even if it doesn't match the sprite of your ship. What you did by making it bigger but giving a lot of life is a very valid choice too though, just personnal preferences.

Thanks for the game and great job, that's a solid jam game ✨

Good tip on the smaller hitbox.

The mouse thing is because there are three control types mouse, wads, and joystick.  If I had it to where you automatically followed the mouse the other two would not work.

Very nice.  loved the music choice and the story. unfortunately it was hard to focus on reading all of the lines when the bullets started flying.  A shielding ability would of been nice, I felt like there was a point where I couldn't stop getting hit lol

Great sounds, graphics and story! very polished. the webGL build unfortunately suffers from webGL things, but the game was great!

Developer(+1)

try the windows build

yes i figured. unfortunately My I am rebuilding my pc right now so i only have my mac book pro to test. I assure you, i took webGL into consideration when scoring and it did not affect the score! I really liked the game

Dude I love this one! The music/rythm aspect is perfect! It's a fair bullet hell game, I died once in the final phase and beat it on the second try. Graphics are nice too, very NES-like. Had a lot of fun! My first 5-star all across the board!

Here are some suggestions:

  • checkpoints could be nice after each phase
  • faster movement would make you feel a little bit more in control, maybe even just slightly
  • always follow mouse instead of hold click, because there isnt ever a reason to not hold click
  • stop bullets when dialogue appears
Developer

Glad you enjoyed it!

  • checkpoints could be nice after each phase
    • It would be but i felt like the easier solution was to just load the player up with health
  • faster movement would make you feel a little bit more in control, maybe even just slightly
    • i feel like you want controlled movement when there's a lot of bullets around
  • always follow mouse instead of hold click, because there isnt ever a reason to not hold click
    • i would do that except i have other forms of movement control like keys and controller
  • stop bullets when dialogue appears
    • i do some of that, but honestly the dialog stuff was probably the weakest part of this entry

Great game!

The first thing that caught my attention were the multiple control schemes you have. I really enjoyed the mouse movement, even thought I would like the ship to move a little faster in that mode.

The graphics where really nice and I enjoyed the story. I would have made the dialogue boxes a little bit more transparent though. Sometimes the pirate captain was speaking and blocked the view on some projectiles.

And as pretty much all of the other commenters already pointed out: The limitation was very well integrated!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it.
1. All of the movement controls move at the same speed, mouse included.
2. There is also controller support if you have one.

Great use of the limitation! And overall a really fun game, the bass cannons were tough :)

Developer

Let the bass cannon KICK IT!

Interesting mechanism! But the game is a bit laggy on the browser for me.

Developer

Sorry to hear that!
Check out the windows version I just uploaded and if that works better please adjust your rating if you gave one.

No problem!

Brilliant use of the limitation, something we struggled with.
Love the style and it is a really fun boss fight.

Developer

Thanks! I thought your game did well with the music limitation it just needed more stuff.

Ah, such a great use of limitation! great job!) also really like game balance, music, and portrait design. Controls with mouse are pleasant, and cool how web page background expands game space.

Developer

Thanks! But I HIGHLY recommend full screen for this game.

What a cool game! Had a very retro game style reminded me of an arcade game. The bullets going off to the rhythm was very cool use of the limitation. Great submission! FYI always up for some Buffalo Wild Wings!!
