Paper Pixels is a really good choice for the art! The concept is interesting, here is some feedback:

  • There could be a better visual feedback for the cost of everything in terms of energy. It took me a while to notice that even jumping had a cost. (I know it's mentioned in the first screen, but I ended up skipping the text when I first started playing because it was cropped)
  • The movement/platforming is a bit rough sometimes, and I think the strong gravity and even stronger jump were partially responsible for this. Also, sometimes platforms would shoot you out of them, making you waste a jump.
  • There is no reason to shoot enemies other than defend yourself, as there is no reward, and you lose a coin. This may be a design choice, but I found myself evading them more than trying to kill them.
  • Maybe it would be nice to let the player land on ground before skipping to the next level when the energy is depleted. To have kinda of a "last shot".

Still, good job on the entry! It's a solid concept and a fun game to play.

That's a  very good concept, and the art is very clean ! Although, I think something is missing to really enjoy the game, like the concept of all has to be paid could be very good but  now it's like you are in front of a gambling machine and you are sure that you will never win... We continue to play game because we want to progress, see new things,  unlock new feature or just get better. Here, nor of these are present, but that's  can be normal for a jam game if you didn't had the time to implement all that  you've planned

That's still a great entry for the jam, congrats !
