Welcome! The Micro Fangame Jam is a jam dedicated to small fangames. It will take place during the whole month of November.
By "fangame", we mean that your game must reference one or more existing licenses. It can be a game, or a movie, series, book, music, meme… Anything you want! Just share something that you feel passionate about, or that you just want to parody. You can even just pick characters and make the epic crossover of your dreams! Don't be ashamed: this jam is a unique occasion to not create original content!
As for the 3 minutes rule, this means that any player can reach the end of your game within that time, whether they are good or not! Yes, it's very short. Think of this jam as a collab, resulting in a mini-games compilation from all the creators. Your game can be a vignette, a small QTE, a short story, a joke… The purpose is to be surprising and express your creativity in a short time!
One month is a long period to create a 3 minute game. That's why you are allowed to post several entries! Up to 5 games max. Don't feel obligated to though. This is not a challenge: you have the entire month to make your game whenever you want, at your own pace.
Furthermore, you can use absolutely any assets you want, even if they are under copyright! That's right, we are making real fangames! You can borrow sprites from a SNES game, use a music from an anime opening, or even take a picture from a movie and use it as a texture. Be wild! Let's make clumsy Flash games as if it was the early 2000s! (except not in actual Flash, I guess)
Of course, you should still credits the authors.
This jam is the second edition of the Micro Fangame Jam. The first one took place during December 2019. Check out its entries if you're looking for inspiration, or just want to play an amazing collection of small fan creations!
You can use the Community forum of the jam to create teams, ask for help, or just discuss. There won't be any rating at the end of the jam. We're just creating fangames for the fun of it. You're still invited to try the other entries (it should not take too much time!). Please be nice, and have fun!
