Hey developers,

I really like metroidvania games (in particular the Metroid ones), but I feel that it is hard to find good metroidvania games. So I give you the challenge to make a metroidvania game in a limit of time of 1 month. What's a metroidvania game?

Rules:

1. Assets should all be made during the jam period and by you. General purpose code, designing, bases and models, placeholders, and story can be made before the start of the jam. Fonts are an exception: you can use pre-made fonts even if they aren't from you.

2. Incomplete games are accepted, I would like to see them evolve if it's a project that you'll continue. So don't stress to make a complete game! But your submission should be playable.

3. Teaming is accepted.

4. The game needs to have a PG-13 rating or below.

5. I'm accepting late entries until 24 hours after the end of the submission period.

The jam doesn't have a theme in particular, as long as the game is a metroidvania-style game, is playable, and follows all of these rules, your submission will be accepted.

Games will be rated on these criterias:

Scenario (story)

Gameplay

Graphics

Music and sounds

Engagement (if you want to continue to play the game) and general

Note: Bugs won't be counted, but if a bug affects too widely one of the criteria (Ex: Gameplay, a bug causes you to not be able to get a key to continue in the game) then you'll get less points on that criteria.

For judging, submitters and contributors will have the right to rate the entries and choose their winner, the "Community Choice", by rating the games on the itch.io page. On my side, I will rate the games and decide my best, the "Host's choice". My rating is a bit different than the ones on itch. First, I am able to put 0 on a criteria. Second, games with external assets are judged differently. For example, all of the audio in a game was made by an external source. This criteria will be marked as "External" and won't be counted in the overall ranking. However, you get a penalty of -0,2 on your overall grade. If only a part of the assets used were made by an external source, than I will rate what you made and you won't get a penalty.
