Theme interpretation and application
Absurd Size - The world size is very big compared to your character and many of the upgrades are improving traversal to overcome that size

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this! I think we’re kindred spririts in the “over ambitious 3d world” realm. Echoing some other comments, having boost on a shoulder or regular button instead of stick press would have been good, though it was less of an issue since if you luck out like I did and do all the things right. Love the effects, it still felt pretty good to boost and drift and I felt a nice sense of control on the bike with the 3 thruster feedback.

A trick to help feel fast and make the world feel more real is to spawn particle effects, like dust, generally in a volume mostly in front of the player (vs the whole world and tank perf). I hope you keep at it, I’d love to see more!.

Feels very bold to submit a game about biking around a big empty desert to a metroidvania jam less than a year after Metroid Prime 4 came out :P  (which I never actually played tbf, so I can't really speak to how this game compares to the infamous desert section in that game, but it's very funny theming that I can't imagine is a coincidence)

This is a pretty nice concept though, the bike was indeed really fun to drive as promised. I liked the camera zooming out as it accelerated, gave a really nice sense of speed. The initial player did feel really painfully slow compared to the size of the environment, but it sounds like you were aware of that and just didn't have time to refine it better, which is fair.

Bigger issue I had honestly was with the control scheme - needing to press and hold a stick and move it at the same time felt really bad (my thumb's still a little sore from it!). I guess that could always vary depending on the controller, but I used a pretty standard Xbox controller so I can't imagine my experience would be uncommon. Adding control rebinding would let me fix it of course, but I'd rather just have the boost be bound to a different input by default. (ig i could've also used the keyboard controls, but seeing that those used the arrow keys for camera control made it seem pretty clear this was meant for controller first)

I also found the flat, unshaded appearance of the sort of temple area where you get your first ability to be really confusing - it makes it really hard to tell where the floor ended and walls began. There was also a lot of camera clipping awkwardness around the walls in there.

Outside of that area the game was visually fine, if obviously unrefined. Though I did have a kind of funny visual error at the ending where the end screen didn't properly scale to fill the window, so it just faded into the corner while the gameplay kept going on the rest of the screen and I watched the bike just keep driving until it fell off the map x).

Don't really have a lot else to say, it's a prototype that's aware it's a prototype and was decent fun to play around with. Some sounds would be nice I suppose, feel like some engine noises would've really enhanced the feeling of speed while driving the bike.

Nice entry to the Jam. I see potential in the concept but the execution could be better. The beginning area was a bit confusing and the time to get your first ability was a bit long. I couldn't figure how to progress after acquiring the jump & speed boost abilities. I assume the big ramp was the way to progress, but I couldn't make the gap. The speed boost was cool but the button on controller should definitely change from clicking in the left stick.

This was a nice little exploration type game. While there's a not a lot, the very open world is nice to just zoom around in once you get all the bike upgrades. It was also a nice little challenge to figure out how best to clear the water to get the boat upgrade, so I feel like I got my times worth out of this. All and all, it was pretty fun despite its drawbacks, even when I was a little confused at first since I didn't realize jumping was an upgrade I had to get. Great work on releasing this regardless! I enjoyed my time.

The game was short, but fun. I really liked how the upgrades made the world feel smaller

i couldnt get anything to work (probably on me having a potato laptop )

Sorry to hear you couldn't get it to work. Even though it has a web build, it is still a bit resource intensive in what it tries to run and I didn't get to put much time into any optimizations. Next jam game won't be so heavy.

I couldn't get the jump button to work on keyboard or controller. Lmk if there is a fix and I will try and play again.

I probably should have specified in the game page, but forgot due to scrambling for time.

The only thing you start with is basic walking movement with Left Stick / WASD. All other controls listed in the description, Jump, Dash, Bike (and its Jump and Dash), etc., are all upgrades.
