The sound FX art and music was very nicely put together. nice vania game
Pretty cool art and music.
Not so Metroid as you said, but I enjoyed oneshoting enemies.
Felt very familiar. The game play really took me back to the NES days. Loved it.
Really loved the tight controls and crunchy feeling of defeating foes! (I'm a fan of the vania part of metroidvanias)
Nice fun game! Loved the sound design, music, and art style. The only complaint I have is with the death system. There was no real penalty to death and no real steaks.
Looks and sounds really nice. And the controls really capture the feel of the original CV on NES and Gameboy!
I will say though, that the stairs are easier to navigate than in the original CV. :)
Many of the enemies move too fast. It's still possible to time your attacks right, but it still feels somewhat unfair.
The decision to respawn the player in exactly the same place after death is a somewhat odd one. It essentially means that death carries no penalty at all. But I suppose it compensates for the speed of the enemies.
I'm really happy with this project, it may not be very Metroid, but it's very Vania. It may be a short game but I implement a lot that I wanted, it has fairly good controls, a cutscene, a boss stage, all in all, yes I'm happy. I would have liked to work on this more and make the game bigger, but work calls and I have achieved what I wanted to and itching for the next project.
that was not a metroidvania
agreed!
