Nice little game! I wish it was a bit longer, but what you have is pretty solid. I would like higher contrast between the foreground and background in the boss room, it's a bit jarring after all the darkness in the levels before. I couldn't get the special code to work in the menu unfortunately. I liked the theme and story that you worked into this

Developer

I see. Many people have had problems with the code. not sure why because it just ran it through and it worked. it may be due to save data problems because it requires save data to actually activate the code. I don't know how itch.io saves data on browser but if you have a Gameboy emulator that might fix it. you can download one on any device even mobile.

All in all I got way more invested than expected in the quest of NIGHT WALKER. Movement felt pretty good in this one. It didn't really hit the 'genre' for me as strongly but I think I would like to see your work on a more writing-heavy game because when it landed there, it landed pretty well. There were some elements of the audiovisual presentation that probably could've used more work.

Developer

now that you mention it, there was an unused sound effect for when you had low health but I never actually coded it in. I see you liked the story driven aspect which a lot of people liked as well. I can see why it didn't feel too much of a Metroidvania mainly due to other elements of the game. I appreciate the tips and want to make a sequel.

Congrats on making a complete game with a lot of charm! This was a memorable entry.

I also thought the movement was a little slippery, but it wasn't game-breaking.

I got stuck for a little bit because I didn't realize I needed to pick up an item in the save room. Eventually I figured it out and beat the game.

I tried putting in the code at the start but I couldn't get it to work.

FYI: Loading a save in the browser version loads you to your last position, but without any upgrades.

glad you enjoyed the game. Can't wait to make a sequel. By the way, about that code, you have to beat the game once to input the code. Due to the save data problems you mentioned, it's probably better to download it with an emulator.

I tried after beating the game but maybe it just works on the emulator version. Or i just didn't do it right 🙃

So nostalgic! Luckily gameplay is simple enough for me to pass it through quickly. The character feels a bit slippery at the end of movement. Platforms work very well, enemies are easy, I died on spikes a couple of times, otherwise it's easy doable.

I liked it.... Though I was a bit worried that the end Boss might have hung "Emma" in the boss battle! cool game, (and such a sweet story)

I thought this was a cool looking entry. I liked that you included a web build. Unfortunately, I got stuck after getting the athlete boots. I went to the room with the ? and I couldn't jump to the platforms or across the obstacles. Did I miss something. I went back and checked and it didn't seem like it.

Developer

so after you get the athlete boots, there's a room to the right right side when you exit the upgrade area. To get to it, jump on the platform to the far left. And work your way to the right.
