Comments on the jam
I had a really great time with this jam. Was a little bit under time pressure at the end, because school and stuff so not everything became as I intended, but it was a nice experience and I hope someone has fun with this game.

Graphics are simple but serviceable. Got to the boss twice. The game appears to have returned to title without prompting shortly after I accidentally glitched down through the boss elevator and was trying to die before then. I will likely go back and try again later.

I also got on a weird angle at one point. I can send you a screenshot if you like.

This has some promising combat, but I would work to simplify controls if you can. There were some personal preference things that were bugging me but really there should just be fewer buttons to know.

I pretty much agree with what everyone else said. The movement and combat was fun, with the dodge roll being very useful. The axe enemies are probably a little too hard like people said, although there's a pattern to beat them (one quick attack, then roll as soon as they start to attack). It was harder because they would get a double hit on you sometimes. The bandages helped make it more fair, but they should probably deal a little less damage. The room with 3 enemies is definitely too hard.

I had the same problem with the interact button usually not working when trying to open doors, and I couldn't make elevators work at all. That seems like the most important thing to fix. There was also some weird physics. At one spot an enemy attacks while you're climbing a ladder towards it, and when it jumps down the ladder shaft, it sits on top of your head while you climb! There is also a gap that you can get across by mashing the roll and jump buttons, and I'm not sure you were supposed to be able to cross the gap, because it was a weird maneuver that didn't seem intentional.

Not a bad start though, and I wish you luck on expanding it!

Good start to a game and nice environments, especially for 1-bit graphics! I really like the move and the feel of the main character, along with the different attacks and dodging/jumps as well! I got a bit confused by all the interact prompts that I guess are all just check points. I never could really get anywhere past going underground and fighting a few monsters either; not sure if I missed something!

Developer

Thank you very much for your feedback. Happy to hear you liked the graphics and game feel of the main character due this was my main focus where I wanted to progess at this jam. Yeah, sadly I didn't have anymore time to actually say what those "interacting spots" would do if you interact or what for requirements have to be met to get them work. For example there is a generator which needs to be filled up with some fuel you have to find. When this is done the elevators will work and you can go to the boss.

its a really good start, liked the combat

interacting with things wouldn't work most of the time, feels like i might be missing out on stuff

the office room seemed a bit too hard

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you liked the combat.

Yes, sadly I didn't have time to actually say what those "interacting spots" do. At first I should have focused on making the player unterstanding the game and its mechanics before doing other stuff.

I have also already heard that the office room is a bit too hard. Seemed not difficult for me at development but there is always a great difference between the developer playing its own game and another player playing a new game. Next time I will try to let it someone test if there is any time over.

I liked the look and feel of the game.  Right from the beginning, I went left and realized if I jumped really quickly, I could climb the wall and ran off the map into oblivion.  I don't think I was supposed to do that. lol.

When coming into contact with the tent, I was confused by the "Interact" but it didn't seemed to do anything, until I died and then I realized it was a save-point.

I never could beat the Axe-men.  They seemed a little too powerful.  In the beginning, I started using the arrow keys to move, which made it difficult to use the attacks and dodge until I realized you had intended to use WASD.  When I switched, I still couldn't beat them.  Lol.

I also had trouble interacting with what looked like elevators.  I couldn't get them to move.

I liked the different types of attacks you could do with your sword.  Adds a little variety to the combat.

It seems like a good start to an interesting retro-horror-type game!  Nice job, and keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Yes there are many things that aren't supposed to be the way they got in the end. I ran out of time because I started 1 or 2 weeks late and I put a bit to much time into animations.

Yeah I didn't have anymore time to actually say what those different "interacting spots" do or which requirements have to be met to get them work. For example you need to find a can of fuel and than fill up a generator. After you  have done that the elevators will work. Next time I will at first make sure that the game and all its mechanics can be understand before diving further into other stuff.
