Your team must create a 3 minute first-person horror game using the prompt MIMICS as a starting point for design. The creative and technical direction of the project can be determined by the team, but the final prototype should include: -  

  • Only one core mechanic
  • A single interior whiteroom environment
  • Functional & atmospheric lighting
  • Optional: Visual assets for key components
  • Optional: Audio assets for feedback & atmosphere

The prototype should be produced using Unreal Engine 5 and submitted to itch.io by 5:00pm on Friday November 1st, 2024. Teams should consist of no more than 4 members across all 3 years of the programme. 

Suggested Development Roles

  • First Year - Lead Level Designer (inc. whiteroom blockout)
  • Second Year - Lead Gameplay Designer (inc. blueprint creation)
  • Third Year - Producer (inc. support for level & gameplay development)

Production Outcomes

  • Monday - One-Page Design Document (High Concept, Experience Goals, Mechanics Overview, Level Overview)
  • Tuesday - Proof-Of-Concept Prototype
  • Wednesday - First Playable Build & Player Testing Feedback
  • Thursday - Feature-Complete Build
  • Friday - Final Playable Build & Public Demonstration

Development will take place in G101 throughout the week, and staff will be on-hand to support you. Entries will be judged by lecturers on originality, innovation and execution, and there are prizes for the winning team.
