How does your game fit the theme "Unconventional Means"?
Instead of following the indications the pirates give you, you have to do the oposite, you have to focus on the lies to undestand the truth

Little Treasure Hunters Ups and Downs

Ups:

  • Graphics are really nice
  • Music is good
  • Concept is original, and it works pretty well in practice
  • The animations are pretty funny

Downs:

  • Jumping feels kind of janky
  • Lack of sound effects

Overall, a funny and cool adventure game!

I liked the art, and the player animation was nice though it did make it feel a bit hard to control on those jumps. I personally didn't think the game was very unconventional. Also, did you recreate "what shall we do with the drunken sailor" as your music haha, that's cutting it close with the "no premade assets" rule ngl

Developer

Hey man glad that you checked out  my game! I interpreted the theme in a way that makes sense more  gameplay wise as in instead of following instructions from NPCs as usual you have to do the completely oposite. About the music, I was planning to make a mash-up of a bunch of sea shanties, but I was running out of time, so I grabed my keyboard and drunken sailor it is HAHAHA. Thanks a lot for putting this jam together, it's been really cool!

an interesting & creative take on the theme, very cool! I love the art & animations! the music is a bit repetitive & not original but overall good work!

I'd appreciate it if you could play/rate my game as well! :)

Those people really need to get their directions together :D JK! Really liked the game! The dying animation was hilarious!

I like the concept of this!  Good use of the theme -was a cool idea having to eliminate possibilities on which one to open based on them lying xD  Liked the graphics too!  Great job! :D

Very easy but fun game.

This was pretty fun. It was a little easy, but still great.

This was really fun!! The whole "Don't listen to the pirates" thing being a way to direct the player to the treasure was really cool! The ladders are a little glitchy, but the rest of the game was really smooth, I love it! It was easy but fun! Nice work on this!

This game is cute and very easy to play. It's a nice game for children i think.

I enjoyed this game! I really like the concept of figuring out where to go by ignoring lies. I especially liked the art and animations, they just worked really well!

If you work on this post-jam, it might be interesting if there was some more complexity to the directions, such as having some other characters that tell the truth, or maybe something like exactly one character will ever tell the truth per level. I don't know if something like that ruins the concept, but I think it could lead to some more thinking intensive levels.

Overall, great job!

Thank you for the compliments! The multiple characters that tell truths or lies (or maybe there could be one that can tell both) is a great idea! I thought about it but I ran out of time trying to polish things as much if I could. I may add some new levels with this concept after fixing all the current bugs :)

Nice game! The concept is very original and the art is super cute and nice. The pirate lying to you thing actually kind of caught me off guard, for in most of these situations, eventually there would be a big bamboozle in which the prate actually told the truth, but no, not here. Anyway, the music was pretty bad, is was very repetitive, and clipped between levels. Also, the spikes and platforming segment didn't mash well with the whole, "pirate lies to you" thing. It could've been really good if the rooms were more varied, but here, there aren't many actual obstacles. The spikes feel less like obstacles and more like very unlikely to hit you, very annoying time setbacks. They are very easy to avoid, and when you fall in it feels awful. Anyway, good game, has a lot of problems, but within three days, this is great!

Developer

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! About the spikes, I do actually think that the game would be better without them if I had more content and larger levels, but I thought about including some obstacles so the player has somenthing to do when going one place to another instead of running in a straight line. And yeah, I've could put a little more time on the music, I completely agree  on that!

Fun concept! I liked the walk cycles, but walking itself felt weird. Maybe don't tilt the character as much? Also the music got a little repetitive, and clipped between levels. However, it was really fun to play, keep up the good work!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Yes, there are some issues with the music, it' s the game aspect that I spend less time in, next time if  I'm not inspired with the soundtrack at least I'll try to give a mute button because otherwise the music gets stuck to your head. It's been 2 days and I still hear the damn piano on my head HAHAHA

very original concept! I got through the whole game no problem.

The music become annoying after some time, also it would have been interesting if the pirates talked in riddles or code so you have to think about what they're saying- and do the opposite of that

Developer

Thanks for giving you opinion! I actually think the riddle thing would be so cool, because currently the directions are so simple. It would be a great improvement to the game!

The pixel art and it's animations are very cool!

Developer

Good to hear that <3

good game, but some spikes hit box are out of place

Developer

Thanks for checking out my game! Yes, it could be, I checked that the ones that you are more likely to encounter are ok but i could have missed some of them.

cool game but it does have one issue. On some levels its really difficult to get off the top of the ladder. overall good game though.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah the ladder is kinda buged. I programed it pretty early and I thought "I'll fix it later" but sadly I ran out of time.
