Easily my favorite holiday of the year!!! Do you agree?

Welcome to what I hope is the first of many Halloween jams hosted by yours truly ;)

THEME

This is a Halloween themed game jam. If horror games is your thing, then you've stumbled into the right place. The main themes for this game jam are "Halloween", "haunted" and "horror". These are, as always, open to interpretation. Your game theme can be anything from scary to funny and everything in between. Seriously, creativity is strongly encouraged in any of my hosted jams!

As I have done in the past, there will be an additional theme and/or restriction type of element announced at the beginning of the jam. This information will be revealed on my YouTube channel as well as in the Discord channel. You will have creative freedom with some direction to help inspire your project to get off the ground.

RULES

  • Pre-made art IS allowed as long as you have permission or rights to it. Please credit the artists on your submission page or in your game.
  • Pre-made music IS allowed. Same as with the art; permission or rights are required and please credit them.
  • NO pre-made code! No starting early! You must start all code after the jam starts.
  • Solo devs and teams are allowed. There is NO limit to amount of team members.
  • All entries must be submitted by the deadline. Any issues should be brought up and handled before submission deadline.
  • You can use ANY game engine to make your game.
  • If you think it’s offensive or you think someone else will find it offensive… don’t do it!
  • If it’s against the rules or TOS for Itch, YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, or Facebook… Your project will be disqualified. This is a “use your own judgement and common sense” rule. So, act accordingly.
  • I highly encourage anyone to make dev logs and/or stream their process. This is definitely NOT required, but sure is a great way to share your experience!
  • Use #HHHjam on Twitter and I'll retweet your progress and jam updates.

One last "rule":  as for the "horror" theme, I don't want to restrict anyone when it comes to gore and sensitive content. So, I'm allowing stuff like that for this jam but you MUST abide by itch.io guidelines. There's nothing I can do about that. So, if you have a question about an idea you have and if it would be allowed, just ask. I am reachable in the community tabs for this jam's page, on twitter and on the Discord channel.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Absolutely anyone who wants to make a Halloween inspired game jam game!! The theme is up for interpretation or you can take it at face value and create something terrifying. If you are new to game development or new to game jams, then this is a perfect jam for you! I will provide a positive and encouraging environment for everyone of all skill levels. If you're an experienced dev, then show us what you got ;)

RESULTS

Who will take home the ultimate Halloween reward? Probably the kid with the coolest costume, trick-or-treating in the richest neighborhood... As for this jam's entries, your game will be played and analyzed with positive criticism on my YouTube channel. In addition, I will try my best to stream all of the entries on my Twitch channel as well.

The rating system has been set to public. Which means anyone can play and rate your entry. Anyone! So, gather up your friends and followers and have them head over to your page once the rating period has begun.

Once the games have been played and rated, I will choose my choice of winner and announce the community’s choice of winner. Those winners will get a full shout out to there socials and channels from my socials and channels. And of course, your name will be etched into the Marlin Game Jam wall of fame!

JOIN NOW!

That's it! it's that easy. Hit that "join" button at the top of this page, subscribe to my YouTube channel and join the Discord to be sure you don't miss the additional theme reveal. The most important part of any of my jams is to enjoy what you're doing and of course, learn something new!
